A week and a half ago I smelled burning plastic in my garage and noticed that the car's charge rate had been reduced from 40A to 30A. I went to check on it and noticed that there was arcing in the wall receptacle and the car would no longer charge (a good thing!) After turning off the breaker I inspected the receptacle and had to pry off the adapter with a large screwdriver.
Turns out the "known garbage" Leviton 14-50R had given up the ghost after 28 months of duty.
Anyway, I won't be buying another Leviton, but I have to ask - how did the junction get so hot to melt the adapter and the receptacle? I thought the UMC had a temperature sensor on the plug. Or is that only on the gen2 UMC?
