Precisely... far too valuable to be burned for fuel. There's a reason they're also known as fools fuel as only a fool would burn then for fuel when there are so many more cost effective alternatives. :)

They are ubiquitous and a product of mother nature - far from valuable and scarce.
A natural organic energy source.

~280ppm CO2 in the atmosphere is also natural. Most of the life on the planet would prefer it stay as close to that number as possible. Our pathetic addition to fools fuel has increased it to 410ppm FAR outside the comfort zone for most current species.

Sunlight is even more natural... without all the pesky side effects of War, Pestilence, Famine and Death.

If you wish to debate the effects of 410ppm CO2 vs 280ppm CO2 we have a thread for that here.

This thread is for discussing our energy transition away from fools fuel.

China is building a massive coal power plant every two weeks - and planning to continue for decades.

China’s power industry calls for hundreds of new coal power plants by 2030

Good news for all those clean TESLA'S running around!
I don't have the reference handy, but I recall reading about one of the Chinese energy ministers talking about the ongoing construction of coal power plants. It was clear from the interview that he understood the difference between GW and GWh. The energy minister understood that they have to have grid stability to support the economic growth they are pursuing and it is increasingly easy to forecast renewable generation from wind and solar. So, they are building coal plants as backup to the renewable generation they are also building at a rapid pace. So, sure, they are building many GW of coal plants, but they are not planning to run them continuously. This will have a less dire impact on the environment than an average coal plant in another country would.
