Am I missing something or did @bmah not post a follow up? Did you get your X @bmah? Seriously want to know! 🤩😬

Haha!

TLDR: Just got home with the car!

I'm not gonna say it's perfect, but it was definitely good enough for me to accept. Paint seemed OK (at least as well as we could tell in what little light we had), just a few concerns about the FWD alignment and a trim piece that's sticking out. No binding/scraping or mechanical issues, just cosmetic. Going to wait until morning to take another look and see what we want them to try to fix and what we want to leave as-is. Interior looks good from what I can tell.

We encountered one issue on the way home...one of the ultrasonic sensors (I think on the left rear door) is malfunctioning, so the door doesn't want to raise all the way without override and the AP display intermittently thinks there's a car there. Transitioning to the yoke is super-easy. Lack of turn stalks will take some practice. Not sure about the gear selector yet. AP cameras calibrated but I didn't try using it.

Sorry I should be more enthusiastic but I'm just super-tired from being up since 0600 and trying to manage my family's expectations during the delivery process. I'll post more tomorrow.

Bruce.

Delivery set up for 9 pm. Given the situation of lighting at streets, I prefer Tesla lot for inspecting the vehicle.

I am in California. Tesla still have some hours to push more cars this quarter.
Got delivery at 9 pm and after some inspection. It was a quick and very pleasant experienc. So far, all looks ok with couple negligible panel gaps. Honestly, i would not have noticed those unless I was critically. No obvious issies found yet. I have 24 hours to report and create service appointment for any issue i notice. One thing was clear that car was not in clean and showroom condition. End of quarter rush was visible on windows and screen. It need detailing before it shines like hundred thousand plus bucks.

I will keep this forum informed on issues, if I find any. Sorry about the pics... too late. I will do it tomorrow.

Thank you all for community support.

Rejected mine today as well. I was hopeful with a perfect March 31st P85D in 2015 that an EoQ X could also be good.

First, the delivery staff at Fremont were very courteous and professional.

It took just a minute or two to find so many issues with our MXP that we stopped and went in to let them know. I wasn't even sure at that point that I was going to reject it. If they'd said they could have fixed everything I certainly would have been open to the option. For instance, if they convinced me the paint defects could be fixed as skillfully as Brooks Motor Cars, one of their certified body shops that is just a block away, I probably would have taken it. But the issue that finally pushed it over the edge is that the left rear bumper sticks out about a third of an inch rather than being flush with the rear quarter panel. They said that they've been seeing this a lot this week and that they think a bad batch of bumper is to blame but more importantly, they said it's not fixable and that if I accepted the car I'd have to just live with the bumper, so the very noise delivery specialist recommended that I reject the delivery.

Stuff I honestly didn't care about like:

I stopped taking pictures. The passenger side door had a pretty large scratch on the edge that was obviously damaged from the badly aligned FWD door on the passenger side.

The rear spoiler had a prominent crease on the top passenger side. None of the other spoilers seemed to have the issue. It seems like it might have been bent before it was installed.

The passenger side FWD was badly aligned on the bottom. The bottom forward edge that sits behind the passenger front door was inset about 3/4". That's not a typo.

Left headlight was not flush with the bumper. The right headlight was flush but was scratched on the top.

The drivers side FWD was PERFECTLY aligned. In fact it was the very first thing I looked at as I approached the X and I had high hopes.

The rear appliqué between the taillights stuck out about 1/3 of an inch so that you could see the foam underneath.

Lots of miscellaneous trim pieces not aligned:

The paint had minor swirls from improper detailing. They had guys out there walking around wiping off the cars continually probably not realizing that they're rubbing too hard and not cycling their microfiber towelets frequently enough. I'd rather have a dusty car than one with swirls that I have to correct before PPF and ceramic.

So clearly this was rushed. Never even saw the inside. Can't imagine the issues lurking from the overall assembly.

Am I done with Tesla? Not at this point. I'm still hopeful that they can do a higher quality job of assembling a car. Hopefully a mid quarter car that isn't rushed but my fear is that the Bay Area will always get the EoQ cars because they don't need to ship those anywhere and can delivery them the day after they're done.

I ended up paying before getting there because they sent me a text that said I had to. I called them and they said I could still show up but it might be hour or more wait before I could see the car if I didn't pay before arriving. So I paid. It's not a huge deal and I'm hoping that they'll prioritize a higher quality MXP for me but that if they couldn't get me one within a month they would process a refund.

I pondered on the way home if those who've said they're cars were perfect if they really were or if I'm just being too picky and seeing things many others wouldn't have. From 5 feet away, it looks great except for the passenger side FWD alignment. If I'd accepted it instead and posted a bunch of photos from 10 feet away, I doubt anyone would have noticed.
you're being too picky??? there's RUST that is obviously showing and rust will not heal itself but only will spread and cause the paint to flake over time.
I would burn it and not just reject it so no one else will get scammed with that car.

LOL just got back from Irvine SC - thought we could pickup the Plaid today.......but they need to fix a few things so rescheduled for tomorrow (if they are able to do some fixes) - end of quarter push still exists - the SA said, "Elon is correct about not pushing but local SCs still want to and we want customers to take delivery by tomorrow night, we will open as late as we can"

1st off, Irvine SC is super friendly and they let you inside the vehicle and take as long as you need to inspect the vehicle before paying/accepting

Exterior was 98% perfect so quality control is SIGNIFICANTLY better compared to my f***;d up 2020 March Model Y Performance

The moment I started to check out the interior, the driver captain's chair would not move at all - the tech took it to the back and said they need take apart the captains chairs tomorrow to check wiring connections vs. having to replace the chair. Thus, I wasn't able to check out the rest of the interior

There were about 8 other MX's around the lot, there's a white LR next to me that had SIGNIFICANT GAPS slated for delivery tomorrow - a lot of glaring gaps around the rear windows, FWDs, and around the rocker panels.

Keep ya'll posted tomorrow night "if" we accept delivery. The SA even said "make sure you don't accept or pay tonight until you get to see the car tomorrow" - super nice folks!

Update 3/31: ended up accepting the Plaid!!! the super nice associate remembered me from yesterday and gave me an update a few hours before me coming back to the SC - the captain's chair was dead because of a simple cable not being connected (not an electrical failure or anything)

After a quick exterior inspection (spent like 30 mins inspecting the exterior yesterday already), I finally got to inspect the interior - I spent about 30 mins before finally paying and accepting:
  • all chairs were motorized; the rear seats folded down perfectly and weren't misaligned
  • brought my USB-C cable and tested all the ports; made sure the USB stick was inside the glovebox
  • turned on all the dome, ambient, fogs, front, and tail lights
  • tested all the FWDs, seals, and etc.
Only thing that was missing was the 22" wheel inserts, which the associate brought out to me no problem (he even brought out a microfiber cloth and solution to wipe down any stains on the white seats, which was completely unexpected) - he even showed me the bottles they use to spray down the interiors (Meguiar's 10:1 dilution spray that all SCs use I believe).

Driving home, the X was significantly quieter than my MYP, no rattles, and road noise was insignificant; the Yoke felt extremely natural and I was used to all the buttons within 5 mins (you can barely see the worm - it wasn't raised or anything and you have to look for it). 22" wheels aren't that rough at all, esp. with adaptive suspension (perhaps I'm biased because I used to drive a heavily modded BMW M4 and all my previous cars had low profile tires).

Overall, I am EXTREMELY surprised and feel like I got a unicorn - it's 98% perfect *knock on wood* - will take pix another day but hope everyone gets a good X soon! Out of the 10 X's that were at the SC, perhaps half were in really good shape (for some reason the white X's had gaps and misaligned things that I can easily see from 6 ft away). My March 2020 MYP was terrible when it came to quality control (but I was a Tesla newb and knew nothing about being able to reject, had no idea about checklists, and wasn't on the TMC forums yet - a few folks that took delivery of their X's didn't do any inspection and just accepted delivery; they prob aren't on TMC lolll).....

Forget waiting for the matrix headlights, I'm happy at this point and who knows how the quality is on a future car with the new headlights - it's a gamble as with anything else.

What baffles me is that someone is supposed to inspect these cars before they are delivered. How do these folks keep their job? That's the one thing they're employed to do. Obviously there must be a culture of IDGAF at this company. Doesn't anyone have the cojones to say, "I refuse to deliver a vehicle in this condition to a customer?"

In the past, it's been a "cultural" issue because of the quarter end pushes. This year, I don't know if it's part of the ramp up or things have changed there but the attitude certainly has declined. Just watching this thread and seeing how bad it can get makes me wary should Tesla get around to delivering mine. It wasn't bad back when we took delivery of the Model Y in 2020. With an August EDD and 19 months of waiting, I'm on the fence. I most certainly don't like the attitude of pay first and then inspect it - that's just plain baffling.

You did the right thing rejecting that one. I would have definitely done the same. I can make one or two concessions if they're cosmetic. That's WAY too many. Sorry to see this. Also - Thank you for rejecting. Quality control has to get better. I know many on this forum have said this, but the more that are rejected for issues like this is how change happens. They have to be keeping some sort of records. Also our problems are documented here.

For a RANDOM two-hour Pickup notice I’d say you did pretty well:
1) order car
2) wait about a year
3) get told it’s coming
4) oh never mind wait indefinitely longer
5) COINCIDENTALLY happen to notice in app “PICK IT UP IN TWO HOURS“

Nothing to see here folks 🤪🤣

Model Y and 3 are a TOTALLY different story. They are honed. Polished. Mass produced. And continually perfected. Tesla is putting 99% of its focus into them, and they make up a vast majority of Tesla sales.
Model X is a unicorn. Sometimes wonky.

So yes unfortunately, Tesla’s best vehicle has the highest chance of poor assembly.

Quick update. Had the LR for almost a week. So far car is great. First tesla for me and it's both simple and a little complicated (or takes getting used to) with the tech inside, but so far no issues has arised. Service appt for FWD alignment was pushed to April 14 from today. There is an estimate of $123 which I assume I won't have to pay, I accepted it anyways (no payment necessary to accept).

On Wednesday brought the car into Xtreme Edge detailing in Garden Grove (socal) full front PPF ( bumper, hood, headlight, side mirrors, and fenders) they also did a small portion of the trunk "high impact area". I was the first refresh X they got. PIcked the car up yesterday evening and saw a Red and Cream 6 seater there, looks good! They do a lot of teslas, so if you're in OC area and interested in PPF (they don't do anything but PPF and ceramic) check them out. Got 3M nano ceramic tint at Oc Tint Solutions in Anaheim. Also a good group of guys. No affiliations with either of these shops, just thought I'd share if anybody was interested.

Driving impressions, it really feels like driving a sedan, doesn't feel like the usual SUV, I like it. I'm charging to 90% every other day on the Wall charger. Should I drop to 80%? Does it matter? Charged it to 100% the other day and got 348 miles (20" wheels). I know that was a topic of discussion for some.

Hi All,

An update/warning for @gglockner and others interested in towing trailers.
I noticed the Echo Brake controller you mentioned you will use for the brake system.

I downloaded the install instructions.
I noted for the controller to work pin or blade 2 in the car has to be 12 Volt +.

In my X100D manufactured March 6, 2018 there was no power to this pin.
I had to have service work on the X harnesses to supply this power.

The power will only be "on" while the car is "on."

I have no idea whether or not current Model X has pin/blade 2 of the
7 pin connector "hot" or not...
Just a heads-up...

Good luck,

Shawn

Awesome! I'm looking forward to sitting a littler higher. I'm in the M3 now. As far as battery - They actually recommend just topping off every night if you have the home charger. Apparently the battery really likes this. I do 80% myself and then 100% for road trips.

how much was PPF and how much was tint. Imma need to get tint for the front 2 windows. Still pondering the PPF. My Xs never really got chips but the 3 and Y did. Wondering if the X paint is thicker

EDD is back to July now. It has been March date range for the end of quarter push. It was at Mar 29 - Apr 15 the last week.

I give up and will get BMW X5 45e now which will be ready for delivery in about two weeks. Good luck everyone.

(Feb 2021 order, LR, 6 seat, red, white, FSD). I will definitely sell this reservation to someone once I take delivery of the BMW. I will pocket 15-20K as my “pain and suffering” this past year. Tesla, if you are listening, you have two weeks!

Unbelievable. I'm located in Toronto, Canada with an original order from 11-2020 for a MXLR Red and white 5 seater. Just checking my account this morning and my delivery changed from August 2022 to April 15 to May 05 but no year. I'm hoping they mean 2022 and hopefully it sticks but not getting my hopes up until I see a VIN. Even after that I'll believe it when I actually take delivery. Here's hoping for us Canucks 🙏

HECK YEAH! Make it through the EOQ without having some sickening alert that my car was ready (been July EDD for a while now). I kept refreshing the app in dread that I'd be called in with some huge percent chance of getting a car with a lot of problems. I'll happily wait and take (hopefully) a mid-quarter car with a much smaller chance of having these issues (and these are just the ones on a checklist we can see).
I feel EXACTLY the same way. Earlier this week I thought about texting my SA and asking if there’s any update (EDD still July). I figured maybe if I prodded them they’d magic up a VIN for me. Seems like it’s worked for others. Anyway, as I kept reading all of the EOQ horror stories I realized that I’m not in enough of a hurry to get mine to put up with all that. So I put my head down, kept my mouth shut, and look we both survived!
