I was trying to replace my steering wheel before returning my lease because they are gonna charge $1k. I found a lightly used one on eBay, and tried to install it. I got an error, something about the steering wheel buttons and horn being unavailable. I asked the seller and he said I need to update my Tesla with the new steering wheel attached?? Problem is, my system is already the latest update available right now. I can switch to beta I guess but I don't want to brick my original steering wheel in case the new one is actually just broken.. Any thoughts?

I've been looking it up but can't find anything aside from people saying you can't force updates.. Can you elaborate?

Perhaps the seller meant to do a soft reboot on the vehicle (by holding down the scroll wheels). If that does not work, then also try disconnecting the HV battery (located underneath the rear passenger bench seat) after the scroll reboot.

You can put the car in service mode and reinstall the current software on your car.
Settings>Software
Long press on car model (e.g Model 3)
When prompted for password, type "service"
