Sales tax on solar+powerwall

I am in the process of getting Tesla solar and powerwalls installed. Layout is done but it seems Tesla is charging sales on the powerwall portion of the install. New York state has sales tax exemption on solar installations. I have received three other quotes from local installers of solar and powerwall..No sales tax!

After few email exchanges, Tesla rep still insist they must charge sales tax on the powerwall.

Any advice would be appreciated!

No. Tax is based on the install location.

I think the person at Tesla the OP talked to was simply misinformed. Once invoiced, myself and others I know of that had Tesla installs in states that do not place sales tax on solar + PW installs simply didn’t have tax on the invoice.

My purchase agreement did have a line item for tax however. But it was gone once we got to invoice.

I think the billing department understands how this works but the sales folks might not always get it right.
