Sensing concrete barriers in parking lots

With all the fancy sensing and camera devices, why is it that I can’t “see” the little concrete barriers —4-5 inches high—that are often in parking lots? I have pulled my spoiler off three times now.

If you back in, which is much safer and so easy to do in the Model S, the barrier or stripe should be at the bottom of the camera.

The ultrasonics aren’t that ‘fine tuned’ and you would need a front camera (there’s a project and thread about that in the S forum). Another reason many of us back in using the standard equipment, as mentioned above.

Ultrasound sensors cannot sense obstacle position, only proximity, think of them as shooting a cone.
Camera can't see there's height, unless it is a stereo camera or data is processed for photogrammetry.
In short; the information is not available to AP today.

I back in on all the spots I can, I’m finding more more locations going to the one way drive ways with the angled spots. Just a pain so I try to avoid them.

As I drive forward into a spot, I always look at the curb or parking stops to determine if my spoiler will clear it.

You could buy a custom camera kit that mounts under the front bumper and the image is displayed on your center screen

My guess would be either they're too low or too small for the ultrasonics to detect them as currently configured.

I've always driven Porsches with low ground clearance and am pretty good at stopping before the curb when necessary.

When I can't back in, I pull in forward "pretty close", then get out and use Summon to pull in safely.
