Smells like burned cables

Last week when loading the groceries in the sub trunk I found it smelled aslightly like burned cables, I couldn't figure out the source of it. I have been checking again from time to time and the smell it's getting stronger, but only in the subtrunk, so I can only smell it when I lift the trunk liner and lift the subtrunk lid.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I have an appointment next week for an A/C sensor and I will have them check on it, however I worry that it could catch fire.

Thanks
