snow tires?

We have had a Model 3 RWD 2018 in Southern New York. It barely snows here anymore. But we opted for Snow tires. We live in a hilly area, one year we had a huge snow fall in November. Kids were stranded in school and buses were stuck in newly fallen several inch deep wet snow. No plows out. The RWD Model 3 with standard tires made it up a large steep hill. On the way back, there was a tiny incline to reach the summit of the hill and the car got stuck trying to climb it. A SUV and a few cars went past us and made some tracks and were able to climb it and then proceed downhill.

Afterwards we ordered snow tires and swap them every year. We have young kids, the idea of improving car safety appealed to us. Do we absolutely need winter tires. maybe no. A couple things we learned

- 4WD / transaction control only helps with giving the car gas, it does not help with stopping/braking
- Use Slip Start Mode when you get stuck in snow (might have helped when we were stuck on the incline that fateful day)
- With the Model 3 careful driving into deep snow as the battery pack will stick on the deep snow.
- You have a range of snow tires, we opted for the sottozero's that Tesla sells which are better for the sometimes snow, sometimes rain winters we have, if you live in deeper winter areas such as mid-west there are other options
- Some areas such Québec require winter tires, if you don't have them, they can ticket you

Well, shoot...

It looks like the old snow tires master thread is no longer stickied.

but try this:

site:teslamotorsclub.com "snow tires"

You'll get a ton of threads/posts with coverage of just about every all season and/or snow tire manufactured that'll fit the Model 3.

You can narrow the search down a bit by going to Google and changing the search text. Example: site:teslamotorsclub.com "model 3 snow tires" or site:teslamotorsclub.com "snow tires" model 3. The difference between those two searches is that text in quotes must be an exact match to return results, so moving the Model 3 out of the quotes will give wider search results.
