Sound source when connecting phone with car with bluetooth

If I connect the phone to the car with bluethooth, but I am listing to music on the build in app, e.g., Sportify. Does that mean that notification sound from my phone will not play on car's speakers? As I understand, listening to Sportify means that the audio source is Sportify, not bluetooth audio, thus any notification sound, other than message and phone, will not go through the speakers. Is my understanding correct?

Thanks! I would think if I chose bluetooth audio as the sound source, the phone treats the car as a bluetooth speaker and any sound the phone makes will go through the car. I will test it to see how it actually works.
Usually BT is used by the device for any Media sound which is music, videos etc plus making calls. Media and calls are two different modes and you will see the interface change on the screen while playing media vs making and receiving calls
