Specialty plates

During pick up today I asked about wanting a specialty plate. The delivery person said I don’t have that option on the dmv application. I would be getting regular plates and then I can go on dmv site and order the specialty plates. Does this sound right? If so am I going to pay license fees twice ?

Yes, you can order the plates afterwards. You have to pay for the plates (but not new registration fees). That's not the bad part though - the bad part is you have to go to the DMV to pick up your plates!

You can request personalized plates even before you have your car.

Are you ordering sequential or personalized? You can order beforehand for personalized (I don't know about sequential).

Sorry, I was answering for personalized. On the bright side, sequential plates are sent out much faster than personalized (as they just need to grab one from the stack). I also got the original plates pretty quickly from the DMV (within three weeks from picking up the car) - not sure if that is affected by the Tesla ramp up.
