'Sunroof' Tint

I can kind of understand the cracking rationale because the sun's radiation penetrates the roof glass and gets partially stopped at the tint, causing the glass to potentially expand and be subject to thermal stress. How about if you applied the tint to the glass's outer surface just like ppf? The installation process would be greatly simplified without the need to remove interior trim pieces. Thoughts?
