Foundational work is fast and furious. The building of the Tesla Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai continues at a rapid pace. At the official groundbreaking of the factory, where the automaker will produce the Model 3 and Model Y for China and other far east markets, the large plot of land was a flat, muddy expanse....

I think that's prob right. If you want a big plot of empty land to build on anywhere close to Shanghai, there's but one place to get it... It's like Incheon in South Korea. Much of that area is reclaimed from the ocean cause when they needed a new airport they had no place to put it. So out came the dump trucks.... the whole thing was flood plain/ocean prior.
