Launches first in China, but I'm sure they will roll it out to the rest of the world eventually. I wonder how popular this will be.

If this becomes available here in the US, I will probably get it installed on my car. I like powered trunks, but was never interested in aftermarket solutions for it.

Everyone has their own risk tolerance for "things aftermarket" and mine doesnt extend to stuff like this, so I never considered an aftermarket solution something that was "for me" for a powered trunk. Having it be installed by Tesla means that they can never tell me "its your aftermarket trunk XXX" if there is some issue with it.

My 2022 US built Model 3 M3LR which I picked up yesterday has electric trunk

That's excellent news! I hope mine also comes with this. Take delivery in the next 4-6wks (hopefully) unless they push the date again. I am in Cali so will be taking delivery from Fremont.

I picked my M3 LR 2 weeks ago and it too has the automatic trunk. It looks like all new Tesla's rolling out in February on should have them.

I believe model 3s come standard with powered trunk now, but this would be for older model 3s (2017 - 2020 at least) that dont.

Since there is a recall to replace the rear video camera wire,
I wonder if Tesla would offer the possibility to install the electric trunk?

Model 3 in the US have been coming with powered trunk lids since January 2022 (if not before). Or at least my RWD / SR+ with that build month did.

I'm confused by this article and thread. My December 2020 M3 came with a powered trunk.

Is this article about factory available retrofit? Or is "automatic" trunk a different feature? I did read the article, but it seems vague and ambiguous.

The article states... "Before 2021, all Tesla vehicles had automatic trunk liftgates except for the Model 3. You had to use your own elbow grease power to open the trunk of the Model 3. I know, right? How dare they!"

Unless I'm missing something, this is double plus untrue.

You got your car in December 2020 but it’s a 2021 model.

Picked up parts the other day at my SC and asked if they had any info, was told nothing as of yet, my service rep said probably because of the recall harnesses not being readily available yet, if at all available (they hadn’t done one yet)
