Greetings to all Albertans and other hangers-on (plus you, Mayhemm!).

After an aborted, tentative plan last spring to drive the P85 back to Alaska from the lesser-48, we're going to do it this spring...in truncated fashion. A "helpful" friend - the kind who often is wrong but never in doubt - has alerted me that with our plan to make use of friendly mechanics and their welder outlets for charging, as we pass through the Far North Country, we need take care of the "weird" 240V receptacles used in Canada. I'm thinking hogwash, that the standard adaptors Tesla supplies should suffice, but would like as much input from those of you in the know as possible.

Any help?
Yes, I believe most of the welding outlets are for a twist lock type plug. I'll double check at work but I think they look something like the L6-30

I'm sure it's possible to get an adapter cable made for the TESLA NEMA 14-50

(Ooops.. didn't mean to upload these photos.... but can't delete them )

Unfortunately yes.. Doing some winter driving with the MS
.. back in a few weeks.

Here's what I found:
NEMA 6-50 at our shop welder

NEMA 6-30 at a local tire shop. This was for a small Hobart Welder

NEMA 14-50 at home. ( adapter provided by TESLA for UMC )

Assuming you find welding shops will a "full" size welder, it looks like you would need an adapter cable with a 6-50 male to the 14-50 female connection.
Maybe someone on this forum with electrical experience can answer if the neutral is required. (which is missing from the 6-50) Usually this is the same as the ground anyway but the ground wire is smaller, from my limited knowledge.

Welcome and good to see another color to add to our Calgary collection (I've never seen a Silver metallic Tesla in Calgary).

Congrats! (although I'm slightly jealous!). What area of the City are you in? Likely we will see you around. I'd like to hear how you like the 21" winter set as that is what I will have as well. I couldn't get them in grey as they needed to be the same (silver) as my summer set for some reason. Maybe we can swap wheels so we have different summer/winter rims? :)

Look forward to meeting you and welcome to the forum!

Edit: Looking at your VIN, we must have ordered very close together. Mine is 64397 and will be in my garage a week Saturday if all goes well!

Good news is good news, in that I already have a 6-50 male. I think I remember that Tesla stopped providing them some time after we received our vehicle.

Thanks again!

Yes, I believe Tesla provided 6-50 adapters to early owners before the HPWC was widely available.

Afterward they made it available for purchase as an optional accessory before eventually discontinuing it due to lack of demand.

Ironically, I've made more use of the 6-50 adapter than any other when traveling. (lots of family with welders)

I live in Elboya in the SW. I am a bit nervous of about the possible damage the 21" winter wheels may take given the general poor state of the roads around here in winter but they look so good!

I'm with you on that. Last winter I had a set of smaller wheels/tires on my X5 (which has the sport package and staggered wheels) and it looked so funny. This year I sprung for a full-sized winter set and while not entirely as practical for winter the vehicle looks sooo much better.

I saw a signature red Model S today on 16th Avenue NW driving East... anyone here?

You guys are making me want to change my 19" cyclones to 21" turbines now.... Still have time! But I am looking for lowest maintenance possible so maybe I'll just upgrade later if I can't stand the smaller wheel.

Maybe you can buy my 21" turbines in a year or two. The itch to go aftermarket will eventually get me I just haven't found anything I like yet.

That actually wouldn't be a bad thing. I think the turbines look awesome, but my practicality is kicking in and I need to retain some semblance of that. Maybe if you decide to go aftermarket and don't have use for them I'll take them off your hands. But I mean, let's be honest here, there's nothing really THAT practical about buying a $150K top of the line Tesla model. "But Honey, remember all those times we tried to merge onto Deerfoot and the guy doesn't let us in the lane?! That's why I need the P85D."

I bought the 21" wheels because when I bought the car I loved the look of them but also I had a "go big or go home" attitude - most expensive car I've ever bought. While they look great, they were sometimes a Pain ITA. On my first P85 I damaged both front and back passenger side rims (the front rim twice). Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists did an excellent job of repairing them but it was expensive. I have 19" winter wheels - Rial Luganos and I still think they look pretty good. Either way, this year I decided to try "Rim Blades" (see thread elsewhere). I've put them on the Rial's for now so I can see how they look before putting them on my 21" wheels for the summer. These rim blades are red which might be a bit much given the red calipers and these wheels have the red Tesla T on them already but I guess if I don't like the red rims I'll get black for the summer wheels.
