I have looked and cant find anything but a mate has said to me Tesla are providing Porsche with software or batteries etc for a new Porsche is there any truth in this.

Yep. They made all their patents freely available to any company that did the same with theirs. I hadn't heard of any significant, if any, takers though.

Easy - just line half the battery bricks up in series....

If memory serves Tesla the charge for the actual useage of that tech - doubtless at Tesla prices...There's litte point in hiding anything that can be reverse engineered and anyway it's patented.
