Tesla starts giving back Supercharger access to salvaged vehicles

Not according to Electrek... They say it is in addition to the HV inspection. And they claim to have seen the internal communications.
OK... I’d be happy to show you the many times they’ve posted incorrect things, but… I’ll let these screen shots show you.

Source:
A: screenshot from Oct, when the appt was created (see screenshot of invoice)

ii: see question posed to service via the message portion within the app, as the car is now in service for other concerns

3: see changed tasks within app’s “check status” button to reflect ONLY this new procedure is needed.

Plllllleeeeassseee don’t quote a “journalist” and presume it to be the law of the land.

Note to any journalist attempting to use this post, you’re welcome to contact me before, but you’re not welcome to use these images or post in your fluff piece.

Previous auth form for salvage inspection was SC-14-00-007, new policy replaced that.

Let’s not get personal on this. Also, that article is about Model 3s, which seem to have a different mechanism for salvage vs fast charge disablement thsn the S.

Fred has made mistakes but he’s pretty good about correcting them. Also, he’s quoting green. And although green is speculating, he’s rarely mistaken.

The process is for all models.

Fred’s article is plain wrong. Nothing was personal, aside from pointing out the author of said misinformation.

Again: no “journalist”/bloggist has my permission to use these photos. 😂

How about you share the whole document, or at least the whole header? Because that looks just like the one I have that is just for the HV inspection, and doesn't cover anything to do with Supercharging. (ie. your photo doesn't show anything about the new Supercharging policy.)

I know mine is a little old, what is the date on yours?

The “whole doc” I have had my personal information. If you’d like to pay me 20,000$ I’d gladly post my personal info. 🙄

Good to see the attitude toward anyone that has info on salvage vehicles on TMC hasn’t changed. 😵‍💫

So crazy. Only a passed high voltage inspection, many months ago.

It’s almost like someone knew what they were talking about, without a bloggists article.

PSA: It's the same cost(and process) as the old High Voltage inspection, but renamed. 900$
I strangely got some conflicting information from the Tesla service technician. He says it's a "two step process" to enable supercharging (see first screenshot). He then said he will "send over the estimate for the first inspection", to which I asked whether there are actually two separate inspections, to which he replied yes (see second screenshot).

Am I getting ripped off? Is only one inspection the norm for getting supercharging enabled?

Indeed. After reading @JollyBadger's experience (linked) of having supercharging temporarily enabled with only the HV inspection and then disabled again, I'm thinking my Tesla technician might be right. Either it was going to be a single inspection and now they are going back on that to make it two inspections, or they are being inconsistent while rolling out this new process; perhaps some miscommunication.

I have a new estimate from Tesla. Now they are charging me for a Fast Charging inspection - which I guess is two parts: "Busbar Charge Port Fast Charging" and "Harness Charge Port Fast Charging". $1433 for the whole process; $1537 with tax. Ugh, that is not cheap.

At least I'll get all the inspections done in one visit. Appointment is tomorrow.

@darkvoltage5 This person is reporting a single Fast Charging inspection (gen 3) for a 2018 Model S, and it only costs $175.

I wonder if you are really only supposed to have one of those Fast Charging inspections (busbar vs. harness depending on the age/build of your car.)

Wow, $175 for a single FC inspection is a lot cheaper. My car is a 2021 Model 3, so that could explain the difference.

I just went to Tesla. I rescheduled for later this month as I did not realize it was going to be two full service days, and since they don't work on weekends it wouldn't be done until Monday at 5pm! He said it's because they have to remove the battery for the high voltage inspection. He also confirmed that they need to do two fast charging inspections.

Good news - I do not actually need two fast charging inspections. 😂

Tesla service messaged me saying "please excuse the previous message, I have updated the inspections based on the charging system hardware installed in your vehicle". Now I have an estimate for a single "Busbar Charge Port Fast Charging Safety Inspection" for $351 (plus the high voltage inspection of course). I'm glad to see that they double-checked it and it'll be a little less expensive now.

That makes much more sense. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
