Glad that's over. Sorry, I'm going to take offense over anyone calling a stay at home order for public health and safety fascism. That simply is not a good thing to say. The question didn't even really prompt that response.

I said it this morning, but I invest in Tesla, not Elon.
I suspect he's frustrated by the fact that the order (in the area he is interested in) seems capricious with no end in sight, or no plan which would lead to an end. When there's a plan and a timetable he can come up with a recovery strategy. Right now, he's in limbo.

What a massive bummer it must be for the team to have him walk all over their hard work in q1 and selfishly shift the headlines to this crap. Chamath, give him a call please!!!

he just complained the other day about Silicon Valley being “too much the moral arbiter” of the world. That was directed at Chamath types. He ain’t listening to Chamath anymore when he has John McAfee twitter account, Larry Ellison, and rando right wing/libertarian twitter accounts educating him.

Elon's take on the pandemic is a bit unhinged and detached from reality, which to me is indicative of two things:

1) He's incredibly frustrated with Fremont shutdown - because while it doesn't matter in the long-term, it absolutely matters for Q2 and whether they can eek out S&P inclusion. I do believe this is important to Elon - he wants stability for shareholders.

2) His dealings with government officials regarding the factory have likely been underwhelming. I don't mean this in the sense that he didn't get the desired outcome. I think he has been speaking to people who cannot offer a clear, well-reasoned plan or vision moving forward, and instead resort to "We're government and the answer is NO." Unfortunately he's more likely to encounter such folks at the local level because these folks tend to be enforcers rather than thoughtful leaders. As others have pointed out, there has to be a middle ground where life can go on as safely as possible but the leadership to provide that path is in scarce supply.

If that’s the case he should take the time to convey the message in a meaningful manner.

This is where people get it wrong: when you get infected, you're not only risking your health, but many other people's. And you're forcing health professionals to care for you instead of other people with health issues not of their own making. So the consequences hit many more people than just the one who decides to risk stuff.
1. Stay at home if that is your decision.
2. Convince or force your loved ones to stay at home if you chose so. Do the same with every person you know if you think it is right. Pay your employees to stay at home if you can afford it and you think it is right.
3. Stop forcing other people to do what you think is right. They have their own right, and it is not worse than yours. I'm ( I grew up in a socialist country with little personal freedoms) fascinated to explain this on this forum to US folks
4. Hospital capacity is not overwhelmed in most of the country, so see 1-3 and keep for yourself and people who care what you say.

has he been outside in America? people are outside walking and driving and going to the grocery store. we're not being arrested for leaving the house, and we're not being subjected to FASCISM. jesus that was a terrible rant.

I apologize in advance if the video is from someone offensive on twitter but the video of the cop harassing a lady for visiting a neighbor is disturbing. Watch the speech the cop uses. Wow.

Gentle reminder that we have a thread dedicated to the coronavirus for people who want to talk about that issue. What about moving that topic over there?

Coronavirus

“I don’t like posts in a general forum so I’m posting something with ZERO content to whine”

You’re subtracting by typing, not adding.

Mods job, not yours.

The posts you’re speaking of added to conversation, yours did not.

You’re not a mod.

Elon is starting to learn that manufacturing stuff in CA has big downsides......

To be fair, I’m sure all the people who work at Tesla (and their suppliers) and who are not getting paid right now because they are forced to stay at home, probably like the fact that Elon is going to bat for them.
