All:
Everyone keeps stating that this latest update to "Tesla Vision" has the effect of "removing" radar or "disabling" radar.
Again, as discussed -- and argued about -- in many other threads, it is NOT clear that "Tesla Vision" has ever actually "disabled" radar.
There has been a lot of evidence that the radar is still used for certain situations, even in vehicles with "Tesla Vision" enabled and, yes, even with "FSD".
For example, according to some of the well-known Tesla software hackers out there, the firmware/software loops that do automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning appear to still check for radar inputs in vehicles that have radar units, even if the vehicle has so-called "FSD" available. Maybe this is only when FSD isn't being used in the moment or maybe it's all the time. Don't know. The point is there's a lot of evidence it's still quietly being checked.
My point is that when Tesla says a vehicle is "Now using Tesla Vision for CERTAIN features," it doesn't mean radar is no longer used. It likely means they're using more camera-only features in the algorithms and training. The wording of the release notes is very interesting.
They do NOT say "your vehicle is no longer using radar" and Tesla does not appear to be asking owners who DO have radar units to acknowledge radar being disabled. This is a marked contrast to when Tesla made people who ordered vehicles with radar acknowledge a statement when they decided to remove radar from vehicles pre-delivery. It's telling that Tesla is not asking owners to acknowledge a similar statement with these software updates.
I -- and others -- suspect the radar is *still* being used in certain situations, and Tesla doesn't want to broadcast that.
