Presently (9 august 2019) my tests with Model 3 (from 28 feb. 2019) show that when parking, the car can go "offline" or rather when letting Teslafi doïng an effort to get the car "asleep" it might several times not falł "asleep" but go "offline" instead. Once it is "asleep" or "offline" you can wake it up again instantly by e.g. starting the Tesla app. In fact there is no difference between the status of "offline" and "asleep". And it is pretty unpredictable whether getting asleep from Teslafi is ending up in "asleep" either in "offline". It doesn't make any difference in vampire drain, both having the same low negligable value. The big difference is that parking (P) is not only parking but may also for a greater part have been an "offline" status while it setting should have been an "asleep" (Zzz) status. I noticed this earlier but very incidental but since the last 2 updates (now 2019.28.1) it seems to become a very regular phenomenen.
Although "offline" may suggest some disconnection with a server it was never the case in any of my observations. Waking it up with the Tesla app will always return it instantly to an "online" status and waiting it to fall "asleep" again it might go "offline" 2 times in a row instead of goïng "asleep" and then stay "offline" untill the next day untill you wake it up again and then it might fall "asleep". Restarting the MCU doesn't change this kind of behaviour.
In other words since "offline" doesn't show up in the Live Controls nor in the Raw data from P and Zzz it stays a hidden part of P. Only the Raw Data Feed under help will show it. This may cause a lot of confusion. The "Offline" needs to be separately visible as a kind Zzz-Offline, in the Live Controls.
How long does it take Tesla to fall asleep?
Any effort from Teslafi to let the car fall "asleep" (or go "offline") depends firstly on what your Tesla has in mind and secondly it will take some extra time depending on your Teslafi settings. If Teslafi is used Tesla will never go asleep if the Teslafi Sleep Mode is not enabled! Default the extra time equals to about "Idle Time Before Tryïng To Sleep" setting + 1 (or 2) minutes. Waking up your Tesla with the Tesla app or any app will after closing it again will let your Tesla fall asleep after exactly 10 minutes without Teslafi and with Teslafi + the extra time. So with the default "Idle Time.... " set to 30 minutes it will take 41 minutes. If you park your anywhere but not at home it will take Tesla ca 30 minutes and with Teslafi ca 61 minutes. If you park the car at home (homelink) it will take Tesla ca 2 hours and again with Teslafi 2 hours and 31 minutes. Setting "Idle Time Before Tryïng To Sleep" to the minimum 1 minuut will reduce all mentioned times with 29 minutes. "Time To Try Sleeping" is default set to 15 minutes which does not add to mentioned times. The shortest time which I used is 12 minutes since 10 minutes is the shortest time Tesla needs to fall asleep and you don't want to risk Teslafi start polling anywhere in that time frame if starting a new time interval.
Note: Tesla will never fall asleep if Sentry mode and/or Cabin heating/Dog mode are enabled. Any other app that monitors your Tesla might keep it awake as well. Even if it has also a sleep mode it might interfere with Teslafi's sleep mode.
