This article in The Atlantic was written by a 2019 Model 3 SR-RWD owner. TDLR: It is nice to have extra range (for road trips), but it sure costs money.


I agree with the main points, but not that “it is just as comfortable and convenient to travel cross country in a 20 year old 3-cylinder 50 hp Geo Metro as a 2023 Mercedes S-Class.” Not his exact words mind you, but having to pay more for comfort and convenience is not a new thing with EVs. Travel in a Duesenberg SJ would also have been more comfortable, and a lot faster, than a Model T.

When I was a kid, we made a 1500 mile trip to Disney World in a '87 Ford Escort with a 3spd automatic transmission. Any "just as comfortable" type comment is pure BS. I love my Tesla, but an EQS or BMW i7 or whatever would definitely be more comfortable, and I'd be paying more for it. ...water is also wet, BTW, so be careful.
