Gasoline requires electricity to manufacture, this is often not included in calculations and debates about CO2 emissions and efficiency.

    By this Calculation

1 Gal worth of energy will get a BMW M5 20 Miles (hwy miles)
1 Gal worth of energy will get a Toyota Prius 55 Miles
1 Gal worth of energy will get a Tesla Model S 164 Miles

using 33.7kWh / Gal conversion rate + the 13 kWh needed for refining/manufacture

whats sad is i don't think the graphic takes into account the electricity required for exploration (ground radar or sonar) transport requirements, storage requirements, etc.

Great. The recent Princeton article reviewing EV efficiencies state by state harped on battery manufacturing-associated green house gas production, but completely left out fossil fuel research, mining, and distribution energy costs.

Actually I would like to know at global level what is the percentage of oil (inclusive of the oil needed to manufacture gasoline) with respect to all fossil fuels needed to power all ICE cars in the world. Somebody has these data?
