This is how Tesla “fixed” factory paint defect

New here. Just got a new Model Y and ended up with a few problems, including a paint defect on the driver’s door. This is how it looks after the “repair.” It’s unacceptable on a brand new car and I’m looking for advice on how to proceed.

I went to a body shop near my house today and they said it's a poorly done repair. There are pain runs, the color isn't blended. It basically looks like they literally spray painted over it. It's just unbelievable. The only solution now is to repaint the entire driver side door, blend it into the front and back. This is insane and it should not be something I have to do on a brand new car.

I'm debating if I should reach out to an attorney. There is clearly a loss of value here. They have damaged my car in a pretty significant way. If anyone has been in this kind of situation, please let me know how you solved it.

Did Tesla sanction the repair? Have you gone to the paint shop and let them know your displeasure? Have you let Tesla know?

Please do this first, it's usually so much easier and if the paint shop won't bend over to get if fixed and it was Tesla sanction, let Tesla know and see what they can do. They don't want a paint shop that puts out substandard work either..

Yes, this was Tesla's own repair and I have already created a new service ticket to have it addressed. I had to go to a service center further away from me because they had "paint specialist" that could fix it. I use the word "specialist" loosely here. The reason I went to an independent body shop afterwards was primarily to figure out if this can be buffed out and, if not, how extensive they think the repair would be. A second opinion, if you wish. I am still waiting to hopefully resolve this with Tesla directly. Tesla has all the photos, details, and so on but has not responded at all.

I would offer this advice to others. If you see a paint defect that requires repairs, refuse delivery. If the defect is small enough and you're willing to live with it, don't have them "fix" it. I'll report back on how this issue ends up being resolved in my case.

Any update yet?

Yes, they fixed it. It took a week and a proper body shop but the paint job looks very good now. The people at the service centers really do the best they can and I learned they are severely understaffed. One of the service advisors told me it's "by design" to keep cost low. I honestly feel badly for them. They are all very nice people doing the best they can.

We discovered another incredibly shocking issue. I am missing an entire trim on the dashboard right against the from windshield glass. The service technician couldn't come up with an explanation for its absence. The best we can surmise is that it was simply forgotten at the factory or lost during the last service call to fix the misaligned dashboard.

Another day. Another service call and this time it will be mobile this coming Thursday. At least they try to make it as easy as possible in this case.
