Tire damaged while in Service

Just got notified by the SC that the rear tire picked up a nail while in service. They recommended to get a patch.

Is the patch right way to proceed with such repair? It seems like it maybe a temporary fix and can potentially cause problems in future. Appreciate any feedback!

Provided it's not near the sidewalls a patch and plug combo is the industry standard repair and should last the life of the tire.
