We bought a model 3 in the US and now have to move to Canada, but sadly can’t import our much loved car. . Anyone with a model 3 from Canada moving to the US and want to do a trade?

You can move the vehicle from Canada but not the other way around. US cars do not comply, European ones will but importing may be a lot of work. A lot of legal red tape is enforced by the insurance companies. Canadian cars need very different immobilizers, a totally different frequency than the US. So you would need to change that whole system. Then the silly stuff like DRL’s and a single airbag warning sticker in French. And they used to not allow other color seatbelt release than red, but the car on display at Sherway has black ones and was sold to a Canadian customer, so that’s probably lifted. But the security system is a different matter entirely. The roadster kind of gets away with it because the immobilizer is a separate unit and part of the homelink controller. The fact that it’s not available anywhere (the last unit was found in the Netherlands) means although technically it’s able to be imported, you simply cannot.
There are a few standards that are more stringent in Canada than in US. Tesla says they can't convert the US ones to Canadian standards, not sure why. The only one that stands out is the red seatbelt thingies.
FYI, we did export our Honda Civic to USA without any problem, doesn't even need to go through importer. All we do to do is put in a after market TPMS installed by a tire company here in GTA.

Well hope someone can clarify exactly what needs to be done for importing a Model S or Model X into Canada from the US.
Model 3 should be really simple/a none issue.
