I cannot believe it took me over 2 years to figure this out. Kind of embarrassing but thought I should post this because I cannot be the only one using it the wrong way. I plug in almost every day and sometimes multiple times each day so lets just say the wall connector sees a lot of use having one at home and one at the office. When I remove it, I push the button on the charge cord handle to release the handle from the car however most of the time I need to do this a second time as it seems to sometimes lock up on me before I can remove it. Well I finally figured out you have to HOLD the button until you have pulled it free and not just momentarily push it. 
Hopefully this helps others who have been doing the same as me.
Bottom line is the unlock button is a momentary button and therefore locks once again when released.
