I regularly carry large 5 gallon water bottles in the trunk of my Tesla Model Y that sometimes rolls around and I always wonder if the seal breaks and the water leaks, will it damage the battery?

My 5 gallon water bottle fell and popped. About 3 gallons of water poured into the trunk. It is totally wet and I can see the water dripping from everywhere from front to rear. The car still runs fine but I can already smell the water from the car. I will report here if the car stops working

If you do spill liquid in the rear hatch area be sure to remove the floor covers and dry out the sub trunk. Recently there was a Reddit post that showed mold and mildew growing in the rear sub trunk of a Model 3 Tesla Service loaner vehicle. (Tesla loaner vehicles are notoriously not cleaned between drivers but this was a new low.)

You can't hurt the HV system with spilled water. Sorry to hear about the spill, but you should worry about mildew more than an electrical problem.

I removed the trunk trim and let it dry out completely.
I think it’s all good now.
By the way, there is one thing I’m concerned about. When that happened, I saw the water coming out from the front wheelhouse. I don’t know how the water get to the front. I don’t see any connection between the trunk area and the front wheelhouse. Perhaps, the water passed the battery compartment, that’s little worrisome.
