Hello Simon and welcome aboard.
While there is nothing wrong in charging your Tesla from a Tesla HPWC, it is "just" a tethered Type 2 wall box.
Any 3rd party (non-Tesla) Wallbox will do the same thing.
If you are technically minded, search for "open evse"

If it's for a Tesla I would strongly recommend the Tesla HPWC.
It's remarkably cheap for what it is, and works simply.

True 'dat (in a Michael Caine voice).

But -
wifey will soon order the MG ZS EV as her daily runabout so the current generation HPWC wouldn't be able charge to it as it (allegedly) no longer supports legacy mode - happy to be corrected - so yes Tesla HPWC is best if only Tesla vehicles will be charged from it.
