    A gearhead buys a Telsa

And my point being that Tesla has made a car that potentially appeals to a huge population base which is brilliant. Now if they can just fix their customer service (sorry to beat a dead horse)

    A gearhead buys a Telsa

I'm not a science denier, but I also didn't buy my car primarily to save the world. I bought it for the specs, handling and appearance. It's not just the best EV, it's the best CAR! Reducing my carbon footprint is about reason number 821 for me- just a nice addition.

Cracked Main Screen = Bad Time

It was definitely challenging for me to get all the darned dust spots off, but it comes with little adhesive pads that remove it really well- the trick is being ready to drop before any more of the little buggers get on there! Mine came out perfectly, but it took a lot longer than I was...

Cracked Main Screen = Bad Time

I really didn't notice it significantly, but my wife did- I think it's well worth the reduction in glare to lose a little sharpness.

    Sound in Reverse?

I noticed this as well when the car was brand new- seems to have become more quiet with time.

Cracked Main Screen = Bad Time

I bought the abstract ocean matt protector- It's very nice and tones down fingerprints and glare.

    Volume stuck at maximum

This sounds similar to my problem of Nav system constantly resetting back to about 10% volume, though your problem is much more annoying! One thing- I believe the sound level may be saved in the driver profile. Try setting the volume where you want it, then move your seat a tiny amount, then...

    Thunk while supercharging

I haven't heard it while driving yet. I've had several 100+ mile trips below freezing. However it happens nearly every time I supercharge- usually once or twice every 20 minutes.

Best use of the frunk: smelly leftovers. I don't care how hard it is to close- I love not having my car smell like garlic for a week.

Could Tesla be power limiting P3D?

How do you sustain over 900 wh/mile for multiple miles?
  17. astrowunder

Could Tesla be power limiting P3D?

Wow I can't believe (actually I can based on my horrible customer service experiences) that the service guys didn't see an issue with your car. Are you doing mountain driving or is this mostly on the flat? That power usage is crazy. What's your average WH/Mile right now?

    Performance Upgrade Price Change!

Agree- I definitely had 2nd thoughts when I was bounced around like a pinball during the scheduled delivery process, but after the sale it's nothing but crickets. Luckily I haven't had any significant issues other than tesla charging me for my free supercharging. I hope if I actually have a...

    Version 42.3 update

    Performance Upgrade Price Change!

You were burning over 900 wh/mile for more than 12 miles straight- were you in ballistic mode? Trying to catch Rocket Man? :) Wow. I only hit that high a rate when I floor it from 0-60. You can't possibly have it floored for 12 miles in a row. I think it's worth a service call as well.

    Performance Upgrade Price Change!

@Perry, I also have a P3D- (stealth). Your power consumption looks insane to me. I drive mine pretty hard but have never seen anything like that. OTOH, I'm in Wisconsin and haven't really tested it with high ambient temperatures, and my terrain here is relatively flat. I'm averaging a...

So much this ^^^ especially their communications, or lack thereof. I've begun the process of issuing chargebacks against their supercharging charges on my credit card in the hopes of getting it resolved. I contacted them 5 times with no response. Ridiculous. <edit> I'm supposed to have...

Charging car from small solar system

That's not at all what I had in mind. I'm hoping to just counter-act (or partially) the phantom drain of 2-3 miles per day. At 270 watt-hours/mile, that would come to 540-810 watt-hours, which is in the ball-park of what my system provides.
  27. astrowunder

Charging car from small solar system

It's modified, unfortunately. Generally electric chargers don't mind that- its usually computer electronics that have issues. OTOH, don't really want to mess with a $60k+ car :)

Charging car from small solar system

I think it can go as low as 5. I did some rough calculations. If I had non-stop sun here in Wisconsin (ha), it would take about 6 months to add 300 miles to the car! That's also assuming no phantom drain. Still, I'm currently just wasting perfectly good photons that could be put to at least...

Charging car from small solar system

This is probably kind of silly, but I'm thinking of charging my car using a 100 watt solar system that I have. I've got it set up all the time and I've been using it to charge my wife and my electric bicycles- works great for that. I'm mostly curious if it will work, but I obviously don't...

    Navigation volume keeps resetting?

So I just checked to see if stereo and nav volumes are stored in the driver profile, and they aren't. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out for when the nav is set low. Maybe I'm doing it accidentally, but I really don't think so.
  32. astrowunder

    Navigation volume keeps resetting?

Hmm sounds like this isn't a common issue. I'm aware of how to adjust the volume, but it doesn't seem to save. I'll do some in-garage testing. It's not a big deal, just annoying.
  33. astrowunder

    Navigation volume keeps resetting?

it seems like every time I use navigation the default volume is about 20%. I keep trying to set it to 80% and save my driver setting but it doesn’t stick- do other people have this issue?

Tesla Not Charging For Supercharging, Even Though They Should?

I've emailed my local shop, emailed service@tesla and opened a ticket from tesla.com. No results. Time to start issuing chargebacks I guess- i should have free supercharging, but can't get a single damn response to anything I try with this F'd up car company. (still love the car, BTW)

Obvious features/functions that weren't obvious to you

You're right- I restarted and it hesitated, but still opened. More data points needed. Also interesting, when I restarted my iphone, all the apps that were open before I restarted were still there! Also, I manually closed all the open apps and the car still opened. Ignore what I said...

Obvious features/functions that weren't obvious to you

That's interesting. I'll have to test it again. That's not true about keeping apps in the background- if you double click the home button you can see all the apps that are currently running. If they are actually doing anything is up to the individual apps.

Obvious features/functions that weren't obvious to you

Just tested this today- not sure if this applies to android, but with iOS, you need to have the Tesla app running to open the door. If you’ve recently restarted your phone, it won’t open the door until you open the app. Maybe obvious but I finally had the car not open for me after a month of...

When squeezing, shaking, and shoving the wheel doesn't register...

I just 'hang' my hand at about 8 o'clock on the wheel. This works for me most of the time. Occasionally it still nags and I flick the volume up or down a single 'click'.

3D Printable Phone Charging Dock Expander

Just installed this today. The printer left a couple of chunks under the 'hooks', but I easily removed them with a pocket knife- looks like maybe it was supposed to do this. The fit was a little tight, but once I got it all assembled, it's perfect!

    December Issue Consumer Reports

Consumer reports is the best in the business- no advertising, no axe to grind. From what I've seen from reading a ton of forum posts, I fully expect my M3 to be less reliable in many ways that most cars I've owned. I'm hoping the drive train is more reliable. It's a new company and not...

To Performance or not to performance... AWD? P? I can't decide!

Heh, the P3D is definitely a thrill off the line. Great thing about the car is you can have it both ways- I'm happy when 2nd in line with autopilot engaged and also happy to shut off autopilot when in pole position.

To Performance or not to performance... AWD? P? I can't decide!

Different sites report different specs. zeroto60times.com reports it this way: Model 3 LR: 4.8 QM 13.5 Subaru WRX STI: 4.7 QM 13.2 Model 3 P: 3.2 QM 11.8 As with all things internet, everything you read is true, so take that for what it's worth.

    Curb Rash

I just realized why my prior car didn't have rash- it's tires bulged out beyond the wheel, so they hit first. With the Model 3, the 1st thing that hits the curb is metal. Maybe someone will find good looking replacement tires that will help this.

To Performance or not to performance... AWD? P? I can't decide!

Do you want to beat an STI at a light? Get the P. If you don't mind being neck and neck, get the AWD :) Of course consider the money too.

Who has not received their self registration packet in time?

In Wisconsin I got the title from the DMV, not Tesla? Tesla sent me a certificate of something- can't remember what it was called- that I gave to the DMV and they gave me my title.
