Nothing leading up to it. The car stopped charging, then wouldn't let me drive it. The only error message was "Car won't start. Contact Tesla Service". I called the support line and their immediate reaction was to schedule a tow truck.
My P85D just had the battery replaced at the 53k mile mark. I don't know how to tell which version of the 90kWh battery I got, but this is the part number:
ASY,HV BATTERY,90KWH,CAT1,REMAN,SX
(1102980-01-A)
I'm heading far away from warranty land with this project. eBay has lots of fully functional units for $1k, but nothing like what I'm looking for. It seems EV Junkie may have me covered.
Does anyone have a good source for salvage tesla parts? I'm looking for an MCU that can be mostly broken (bad screen or whatever) as long as the flash chip isn't corrupted. I'm willing to shell out a couple hundred bucks, but definitely not looking to pay the price of fully functional unit.
Final Update:
TL;DR: The service center exceeded my expectations and took care of a few recall items on top of the battery service. The coolant leak turned out to be a loose hose (no word on how it came loose).
Long version:
I got a text message around lunch time saying my car was ready for...
I got my car back from service today. At the end of the day, they actually exceeded my expectation as far as service goes. They replaced my battery as expected, then also took care of two recall items and the liftgate drain plug retrofit, then made sure my car was charged up before sending me...
Update:
Saturday I called the service center and finally got through after several attempts. They informed me the battery would most likely be in on Tuesday.
Tuesday I got a text message update that the battery was delayed by a day due to weather. The weather was absolute crap, so that was...
May car should be done at the shop in the next day or so. They said the coolant leaked out at the service center when they went to power the car up to discharge the battery. Hopefully I don't have a surprise bill when I pick her up. I'm not sure how the leak happened. It went into the shop for...
When I was on 2018.48.12.1 I hadn't noticed a difference in sleep patterns. On the vehicle side of things I have energy savings on and always connected off. TeslaFi side I already have the no inside and outside temperature boxes checked.
Lithium Ion batteries have a negative temperature coefficient, which means the colder they are the more resistance they have. When they have a higher resistance they simply cannot pass as much current, which in turn limits your regen.
I can't tell if 1A is a handicap spot or not. The laipa on the ground looks like they tried to power wash it away, and there is no sign on the pole, but the spot is wide as if it were meant to be a handicap spot.
Also, when. I left my loaner 60 at 18% I was only getting 47kW with no pairing. I...
Chances are pretty good that will be considered "normal degradation" and not covered by warranty. Typically something in the battery has to fail for them to consider replacing it, and even then you get a refurbished battery with a "similar level of degradation".
It's a shame to hear the...
Well alright. You'd think something like this would get escalated to the engineers in California. You can't be the only car in the whole fleet with the problem. I want to know what about the GPS antenna costs $1500. Is that including the labor to access it and rerun the cables?
Update!
I managed to get ahold of the service department a little after 4pm. They said they're waiting for a new HV Battery back and that mine had an "internal fault". I talked to the tech that looked at my car. He said that he went to start the car up to run the battery down for shipping...
As I am finding out today, they are indeed difficult to reach. My MS was picked up from my house this morning and according to the app it's there now. I sat on hold for 45 minutes this morning before I had to get back to work, then sat on hold for another 20 minutes at lunch. No one answers the...
To my knowledge, at least from what I've read here, the car has an error message specifically for the 12V system. I also expect they would have sent a ranger rather than a tow truck for the 12V. My current bets are the HV contactors wearing out.
On Saturday night I got a notification on my phone that charging was interrupted. I headed outside, saw the red ring around the charging port, unplugged the car, plugged it back in, and it started to charge again. A few minutes later the same thing happened again. It being close to midnight and...
I wonder why they say that. I got that build on Thursday the 28th, which I found weird because typically I'm behind the curve. Maybe that's why my car is headed to service this morning
I've been getting that message when the inside of the car drops below freezing. I don't think the camera likes the cold. After I drive and warm everything up, it works fine the next time I get in my car.
It makes me sad to hear the used Tesla experience has gone down hill since I bought mine in September 2018. It was impossible to get a hold of someone before making the deposit, but once I placed the deposit I had an email and phone call the next day and a pickup time a week after that. There...
The trick is to adjust the call volume once you start the call. This has been a known issue since V9 came out. What firmware build number are you running?
We got a bunch of snow over the weekend. I don't have a garage, so I have to park outside. My mirrors got iced up and made a nasty noise when they unfolded so I turned off the auto fold to prevent any (further?) damage. I came outside this morning and noticed my mirrors were folded in, but did...
I've never used the Weather Impact graph before, but I logged in to take a look. I'm experiencing the same behavior as you.
I'm running Google Chrome on Windows 7 with AdBlock. Whitelisted ecobee's site on ScriptBlock.
I've actually seen a 14-50 extension cord at Walmart of all places. It was in the RV/Camping section. I forget how long the cord was, but it was a little over $100.
Slow title transfers seems to be the norm unfortunately :(
I had to keep up after my sales rep and eventually they realized someone dropped the ball on some paperwork. They straightened things out, but I couldn't drive the car for a week due to expired temp tags.
If you're wiring a 14-50 you should be using 6/3. I also strongly recommend running the ground back to the main breaker panel and keeping everything in your house on one common ground in order to avoid grounding loops.

The speed you get on any device over WiFi is incredibly dependent on the quality of the signal. If you have a weak signal in your garage, you won't get much speed no matter how fast your connection to your ISP is. You'll only see that 1Gb speed over a hard wire. There's really nothing to gain...
If you find a used MS you like and have all your ducks in a row you can be driving it by next Friday.
Check out ev-cpo.com to search for cars according to your criteria, then go on Tesla's website and place the deposit. They'll send you pictures of the car which will highlight any cosmetic...
