Model S for 6hr journeys with young family?

I don't have a family myself, but something I see very often on these forums is family road trip success stories. People often mention taking their spouse, multiple young children, and dog on 6+ hour trips and the consensus is that it's an improved experience from what their previous family car...

Mobile Ranger here, ask me (almost) anything!

What sort of qualifications does it take to become a service tech for Tesla? What kind of training do you go through?
  3. ckoval7

    Idling

Depends on the weather, but typically your range loss will be negligible.

    Celebrate New Year's with Science!

The New Horizons spacecraft will be making it's approach toward one of the most distant known objects in our solar system. That object, Ultima Thule (aka MU69), is estimated to be about 20 to 30km across. Right now it's nothing more than a couple pixels wide in the probe's optical sensors, but...

Mitigate range loss in cold temperatures?

Schedule your charging so it finishes closer to when you want to leave home, warm the car up while it's plugged in, and just get used to the range loss over the winter.

    Model S REST API

You need at least 2018.46.2 I believe.

    Model S REST API

I posted a thread here: Aggregating supercharger occupancy data And made a feature request on TeslaFi here: Aggregating supercharger occupancy data / General / TeslaFi (may upvote the feature request? :) )

What happens when battery goes to 0?

Just curious. What sort of relationship do you have with the buyer that makes this ok?

How to Confirm Premium Sound Package?

FSD won't be useful for a very long time.

Almost had a “free” performance upgrade!

Would it be ok to drive off, have some fun with it, and then "notice" the VIN is wrong?
  11. ckoval7

    Possible battery issue?

You start losing regenerative braking when the battery temp is below 55F. Li-Ion cells have a negative temperature coefficient, which means as the temperature drops, the cell resistance goes up. Telling us what the weather was like and how warm you like the cabin would be pretty helpful...
  12. ckoval7

    Possible battery issue?

Cold weather greatly affects your range! I put the route into A Better Routeplanner and it showed two supercharger stops for an AWD M3 leaving home with 90% charge and 30F outdoor temp. As for the charging, if your battery is cold, the charging speed will be limited.

Where did my 75D's acceleration go?

You would set the charge limit to 50% if you're planning to plug in then head out of town for months at a time. For daily driving, set it to 80% and you'll be fine. You gain nothing from setting the battery to 50%. That's sorta true, but you're incredibly unlikely to hit the ranges that are...

    Diesel owner looking to convert

If you're considering the Performance 3, then you may was to look at used P85D's as well. I think you get the best bang for the buck from the bigger battery and higher performance. Comparing a sedan and a truck is kind of like comparing apples and oranges. They'll both get you around, but they...

Car has been on for 4 hours notification?

It's under "Vehicle" in the controls menu. "Smart Preconditioning: If on, Model S learns your driving schedule and automatically prepares your vehicle to drive. This minimizes the pause that you may experience as Model S powers up." Basically, if you leave the house at a certain time each...

    Fireplace app?

You'll need 2018.48.12.1. I'm surprised you didn't get the update yet. Connect to WiFi over night, hopefully you get an update notification in the morning.

    Model S REST API

3.8.0 just hit the Android Play Store. I imagine it won't be long before you or someone gets the API call for the seats.
  20. ckoval7

    Phone App: iPhone/Android app

Just installed 3.8.0! The option to schedule service is there and I can turn on my seat heaters! I can see that past appointments from before I bought the car exist, but can't see any info on them.

Cashier check or wire for final payment?

ACH worked well for me. I set it up 24 hours before delivery.

    Aggregating supercharger occupancy data

That was a while back before they put it in the remote API. I hope it would be ok for limited access sites like TeslaFi to make use of the data, that way only people with login info (generally just Tesla owners) can see it.
  23. ckoval7

    Supercharger - Waterbury CT

Awesome news! Tesla still has it as "coming soon" on their site.
  24. ckoval7

    Aggregating supercharger occupancy data

So now that the API is able to provide information about the occupancy of nearby superchargers, will sites like TeslaFi will aggregate the occupancy data and create trend graphs for various chargers? If it was an opt in thing, I would certainly tick the checkbox.

Model S Expansion Tank Level Sensor

Here's as far as I can go with the info you've provided. https://epc.teslamotors.com/#/categories/720/subcategories/27618 Tesla has their whole parts catalog available online, you just can't buy anything.

Supercharger plug gets stuck in car?

Someone posted this on another thread earlier today: https://www.tesla.com/content/dam/tesla/Ownership/Own/Model 3 Owners Manual.pdf#page=126 The MS has something similar, but not as easy to get to

    Mirror Assault

Personally I agree that the mirrors shouldn't unfold when you walk up to the car. If you're just putting something in the car for later or walking by when working in your garage/driveway it certainly puts unnecessary wear on the motors. Would I call it a major issue? Nah, just a minor...

    First Ding. Ugh. Worth Fixing?

"Is it work fixing?" is completely a personal preference thing. If that were me, I'd either ignore it, or if it did become bothersome just do a DIY job with the Tesla paint repair kit. Many others might go to great lengths to make the blemish on their new car disappear. Do what your schedule and...

    Staged or real?

I don't understand how someone could end up with a Tesla and not know it's an electric car. As far as I know, you can't accidentally rent one, you have to make a very specific effort. And if someone let her borrow that, why wouldn't they explain that it doesn't run on gas?

    Farting app on the way

While I love a good easter egg, I really wish they would put those resources toward a decent browser.

Are they keeping the Tarrytown charger that's across the bridge?

    Random "Car needs service" message

The reply I ended up with from Tesla was, in simpler words, "You had a software update recently and this happens sometimes. Just reboot." I haven't had this problem resurface.

    CPO registration issue

    Random "Car needs service" message

That's the Rockville SC's number. Do they all have the same menu system? I would prefer Owings Mills.

    Random "Car needs service" message

After I unplugged my car from a supercharger I got in and hit the break like literally any other time I would get in the car. All of a sudden I get the error boop and a message saying "Car needs service. Car may not restart". Then I got the error boop again and a message saying it was checking...

How do you keep track of your car expenses?

I use teslafi.com. I don't really use it for tracking expenses, but it's a thing that it does. If you want a 4 week trial rather than a 2 week trial, you can use my username as a referral code.

    Charging and battery question

It's not recommended to charge to 100% on a regular basis. It's not good for the battery. How many miles do you drive per day? I've got a 60 mile round trip commute plus another 20 to 30 miles worth of going out in the evening. I start my day at 80% and end between 30 and 40% which keeps the...

    Model S Battery Question

I think there are a few threads about this already. The general consensus is that your car will lose about 1 to 2% per day when it just sits idly. The car puts itself in a low power sleep state and will be ok as long as you don't log into the app and check on it all the time. Once the battery...

    CPO registration issue

My thread here may be helpful, but I picked my car up in NY, not CA. Over 1 month with CPO, still no title TL;DR, the service center didn't have me do registration paperwork for my home state, which delayed me getting MD tags. It took a lot of back and forth with my SA for them to realize that...

    Model S Battery Question

Tesla's are not cordless drills. The rules for the battery are very different. A plugged in Tesla is a happy Tesla. The car takes very good care of it's own battery. Your location says LA, so I'll assume cold weather was not an issue. Even then, you shouldn't have used that much power. I...

Need help, just won a Tesla S on eBay

You might want to make sure Tesla will support the car. If it's been in a bad accident, Tesla will likely drop support for it until the HV system is re-certified by them, which is not a free service.

    question about financing trough Tesla

When I placed my deposit and get contacted by the SA, she put me in touch with someone from financing to do the loan app. I got approved by another lender before hand, but the bank Tesla went through had a slightly better rate if I put down a larger down payment.

Does the door handle retract on anyone else when you try to open the door?

Mine has done this intermittently once it started getting below 40F outside. Not often enough to be a problem, but definitely a WTF moment.

CT buyer - confused about taxes at time for purchase - NY pickup location.

When I got my used MS I had to fill out a NY tax exemption form ahead of time and then I paid MD's tax rate. The tax exemption form was likely part of your homework before picking up the car.

Getting tires for model S from Costco

I wonder if I'll face the same challenge going through Sam's Club. You could also possibly look to see if AAA or similar shop will mount tires. I think even Walmart will do it, but I don't know how much I trust them.
