You should short it then. Will make a lot of money.

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Not everything is a conspiracy, not everyone is a sadistic Machiavellian villain with a soul for sale for money. Anecdotal experiences are not better evidence than surveys, imperfect as they may be. I get Tesla is cool and all, but the denial on this forum from seemingly intelligent folks is...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

I don’t think there is a need for personal attacks. People have differing opinions on the subject. Maybe they are developing it for ridesharing and not for customers to purchase? In which case, their progress would not be publicly visible unlike Tesla’s.

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

No one really knows who/which approach is MORE LIKELY to get there first? Really? Again, a non-techie but it’s possible vision alone may solve FSD soon but it’s also possible it might take a very long time to improve vision enough to solve FSD. We don’t know yet (which is why it was wrong and...

When will Tesla update Model 3 interior?

Like I said previously, the ornate Mercedes interior only appeals to some people. There are many high quality modern interiors. But the point is not the design, rather the poor quality and choice of materials as well as lack of comfort and convenience features in Model 3/Y given the price they...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

Prices must’ve come down substantially as many vehicles are getting lidars. Ultra Cruise will supposedly use it. The EU Audi A8 has it I believe? And most new cars these days have radars.

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

There is no doubt that Elon is one of the most consequential innovators of our time. No auto CEO even comes close. But often times he says/does things that are downright idiotic. And it’s not just his timelines, especially with regards to FSD. He’s had to walk back claims on hardware capability...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

Just found this online on maps: “GM relied on lidar-scanned high-definition maps for Super Cruise, but Ditman said it wasn’t practical to map all 2 million miles of road for Ultra Cruise. “We do rely on similar map data,” he said. “However, we have a larger number of sensors that also observe...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

GM promised and delivered with Super Cruise functionality and are testing Cruise autonomous ridesharing. Of course time will tell what GM has on the market in 2022/23 and who gets to FSD first. Whoever it is, the sooner FSD comes, the more lives we can save and more convenience/comfort we can...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

The main reason I’m more willing to believe Barra or Waymo on FSD than Tesla is because Elon, for all his genius, is kind of crazy and doesn’t always think things through before making incredibly bold claims and commitments, which often don’t pan out. Barra on the other hand will get the boot if...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

Tbh I don’t really understand how any amount of maps can be kept fully up to date unless it’s a city or smaller area. I mean, changes can on roadways can occur on a daily basis. Otherwise, 2 million miles for ultra cruise is “only” 10x the 200,000 miles for super cruise.

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

That’s exactly what I would do if I were set on an R1S. Let them work out the kinks for a year or two.
  13. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

That’s a valid point. I wonder how well they’ve kept the current Super Cruise routes up to date.
  14. S

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

If I wasn’t concerned about quality and reliability from an upstart and didn’t have to contend with city driving and parking, I would go for the R1S. It’s comparable to a Model X but much cheaper and in comparison to the Model Y, it’s a higher end, much bigger and more capable vehicle for the...

Blog Chip Shortage Impacts GM’s Super Cruise Plans

Actually, they are going to keep Super Cruise for Chevy along with Ultra Cruise for higher end vehicles.

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

I’m in no way an expert on this, but my biggest concern is lack of forward and side/corner radars. I understand they’re low res but at least it can detect vehicles ahead/to the side in case cameras temporarily lose visibility. Also, my pessimism in Tesla getting this right, Tesla has lost...
  17. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

It only had forward facing radar, which is not relevant to lane changes. And if AP1 actually changes lanes without cameras, radar or LiDAR and just using previous gen. ultrasonic/parking sensors, that’s idiotic and unsafe.
  18. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

Of course you need cameras, those are necessary. I’m just not sure they are sufficient especially without addressing potential visibility problems.
  19. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

How would you explain it to a non-techie? I’m open to sound explanations. I have a basic understanding of AI/NN. And is there reason to believe Tesla will get there first? Is it the large amount of data the fleet is pumping out?
  20. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

I’m looking at track record. GM promised Super Cruise, they delivered it works well in the limited settings it is allowed. So I do believe that when GM officially launches ultra cruise which is similar to Tesla’s FSD, they would have tested the technology and it will work well. Tesla has lost...

Ford Decides to Double Production Plan for EVs

600,000 is quite significant and actually not bad for 2023 considering they’ve only just started selling the Mach-E. If they can keep growing their EV sales at that rate, won’t be long before they make a couple of million EVs a year. A lot of IFs though.

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

I have no animosity towards Elon. To the contrary, he has achieved A LOT. But he has been wrong about so many things, least of all his timelines, self driving predictions and the capabilities of past hardware/sensors. If I remember correctly, he even claimed AP1 would allow automatic lane...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

What is this evidence? Why is every company other than Tesla using radars and lidars? What’s more likely, that Waymo, Cruise/GM and everyone else have it right or that Elon, who has been promising coast to coast full self driving since 2016/2017 yet has to continuously upgrade the hardware to...

First Look of the Cadillac Lyriq

I too find the front, side and interior attractive but the rear is kind of weird. It’d be a shame if it doesn’t do well commercially given the aggressive pricing.

First Look of the Cadillac Lyriq

Just got on the waiting list for this. It’s very competively priced, cheaper than a Model Y yet a size larger. I probably won’t get it until late 2022 or early 2023. Which is fine with me as the local dealer mentioned that Ultra Cruise will likely debut on some 2023 Cadillacs.
  27. S

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

It will launch with 2 or 3 million miles of paved roads but will expand to include all/most paved roads. It will be interesting to see who gets there first but after all these years I have lost all faith in Elon’s FSD predictions and my concern with FSD is that the sensor suite will turn out to...

GM’s new Ultra Cruise: Hands-free driving on all paved roads in US/Canada

GM’s next version of Super Cruise to be called Ultra Cruise will allow HANDS FREE driving on all paved roads in US and Canada. Will debut on 2023 Cadillac models next year. This is similar to Tesla’s FSD (but hands free) and is a game changer IMO as far as autonomous tech that’s available to...

What about JD Power? Anyone have any comments on that?
  32. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Statistics are the only way to arrive at reasonable conclusions based on evidence. If you care about what happens 1 to 10 million times, then you shouldn’t be driving on the road at all or doing much else in life. You can’t make decisions based on that kind of logic.
  33. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

It is much more scientific than random posters here. And they survey their readers and base their judgement on all the responders feedback, they don’t ignore satisfied users and focus on dissatisfied consumers online. That’s not how they work. Like someone said before, not everything is a...

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Why post this? Because your individual anecdotal experience is scientific evidence and representative of vehicle makes in general?
  35. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

It can absolutely make sense that consumers buy a lot of vehicles they can be satisfied with overall that otherwise have poor reliability and/or quality. To everyone hating on consumer reports, JD Power has similar findings that Tesla’s reliability and quality are amongst the worst. And...

What is the closest fuel car in size to the Teslas?

That’s why we need price parity between ICE and EV. And we’ll get it soon. Then Tesla will have to up their game.
  39. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Laying the blame on CR instead of Tesla’s comparatively poor quality and reliability is counterproductive. One can contend with individual aspects of these surveys but they are the best third party source of objective information, not anecdotal experiences. JD power similarly has Tesla as dead...
  40. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

In Tesla’s defense, the model 3 is recommended by CR so it must have decent reliability compared to other models. I think the biggest problems I had with a 2018 M3 that had no easy fixes were body and paint quality which seemed prone to rust and squeaks and noise and fit and finish type issues...
  41. S

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

I don’t doubt Teslas are very appealing cars. I’m just saying that they have won the EV debate, time to beyond that as their only USP; they are big in the sense that they have the valuation and orders and they charge a pretty penny, but they should learn a thing or two from 100 year old...

    Tesla has worst customer service

I know the downsides, but, anyone who has had with good dealership experience at any upmarket automaker knows Tesla’s service sucks. Why can’t you call or speak to anyone at the service center and why is everything through emails and text. It’s impersonal and meant to get cars in and out as...

Tesla ranks 2nd worst in Consumer reports reliability survey

Sales and satisfaction are not always correlated perfectly with reliability. People love range rovers too. One can support Tesla without being an apologist for its vehicles’ poor quality and reliability.

This will not end well for BMW

Not sure of the MY vs X3 comparison, but the iX, ignoring its “challenging” look, seems to be a very good vehicle based on reviews and it is priced aggressively compared to the more expensive Model X.

    BMW iX Xdrive50i - MSRP 83,200

Judging by the reviews, it’s both “sporty” to the extent a heavy mid-size SUV can be, and, refined, which is not always the case with BMWs. Seems spacious but no way near as much utility as a Rivian. Rivian is definitely an interesting proposition.

When will Tesla update Model 3 interior?

I agree with the above posters that the C-Class interior is not to everyone’s taste. New Audis have more restrained, minimalist interiors.
