Is this normal, or an unusual amount of issues for a 3 week old car?

The 'door trim misalignment' is actually the door not being adjusted properly for the opening. The hinge bolts need to be loosened and the door adjusted. This also accounts for the hard closing. When the door is set right the window needs to be calibrated so it doesn't rise too high and hit...

[Rumor] Tesla Model S Facelift in 2016 !

I am saying that this is what is going to happen. Believe me, or not, Idc. Not just a new nose, but newer lines. and some changes to the rear like no more Japanese-eyes taillights. Myself, I'm not waiting; I'm putting on Unplugged's visage, if they significantly discount it. Tesla must...

    Service Manual Subscriptions

I'm sure it's making web pages on-the-fly from a database. We don't know what you're looking at but I'm confident that this is how they do it. So best bet is to manually get the print pages.
  7. Q

[Rumor] Tesla Model S Facelift in 2016 !

Model year does matter. Obviously you have to have some point of reference in describing the car. And the VIN reflects that.

Saved 26 pounds with new Pulse light weight wheels on the P90D

Amazing. The spokes are even hollow and their wheel is still strong enough to brake from such speeds. Now, their wheels do not use lugs. Cf wheels with lugs must have a steel insert of some sort to take the spreading pressure of the nut. As CF wheels are hand-built I suspicion that they'll...
  9. Q

    Inconel

No, it is extremely durable, and so not as susceptible to microwelding, cracking, and temperature failure as weaker metals.

Whacky. Now expect your insurance to be canceled.

85 y/o man died in his Tesla after he drove into a pool.

Whelp, another flood-car in Houston... At least this time it's fresh-water. Anyone else noticed there are just too many 'mistook throttle for brake'?
  12. Q

Saved 26 pounds with new Pulse light weight wheels on the P90D

Nah, CF must be fused at high temperature and pressure, to activate and flow the resins. That said, I can't believe it's strong enough for a wheel. Are there steel sleeves at the lugs?
  13. Q

    Inconel

I'd say it must be used in the contactor and plates to allow Ludicrous mode.

    Off-grid solar charging

    1. Can you dig a trench? 2. Can you lay a conduit in a trench? 3. Can you cover over a trench? 4. Can you pull wires through a conduit? Well if so, save 80% of the cost.

Well done zhur. How much was the body shop inspection? The re-cert?
  17. Q

Saved 26 pounds with new Pulse light weight wheels on the P90D

Great wheels, but I can't understand going with 21" with all we know about flats on sharp potholes. $300 a pop. 20" at best, and these don't come. (Not to mention they're a ridiculous $2,500 each)

I know it is. I'm just pointing out that it doesn't make actual sense.

My install of Xantrex PROwatt SW 600

You still haven't said anything about where you connected, nor how you know it can provide that kind of current, nor whether the wire is protected with breaker or fuse? Is that the DC-DC? What's it rated for?
  21. Q

How to view the inside of the rear wing for repaired damage

You call it a "wing" on the back too? It's not actually a 'wing', properly it's a rear quarterpanel. Chances are there are structural components in the way, but you should be able to remove the lining fasteners to have a look.
  22. Q

My install of Xantrex PROwatt SW 600

I don't get it. First of all, you've connected it to the pack? 400vDC? Second, why convert DC-->AC-->AC-->DC? Just get a DC adapter for your laptop. If there isn't one, buy a more worthy laptop.

I'm going to wrap mine like this: Except not with so much contrast. I have in mind for the top Brushed Steel. And yep, right down over the ugly nosecone with the hood lines, and trimmed along its bottom edge. Trimmed to the trunk's bottom edge. Then black reflective tape on the sides under...

Wow, you have way lost perspective, Surrey. Checked the accident rate per capita in the Colonies, historically? You are way off. Unless you're a cop, then your post is understandable.

  30. Q

Attorney decides to test legality of texting while on Autopilot

Well done. Although I think it was capricious to test a junior-college-educated cop, it matters when our increasingly militarized police have sole say and the lower courts rubber-stamp them. Especially municipal court is a meat-grinder in every state, and more should challenge injustice.

How much did your electric bill go up?

Electric traction is far more efficient than gasoline, like 90% compared with about 30%.
  36. Q

[Rumor] Tesla Model S Facelift in 2016 !

I just don't care for it. First of all I doubt there will be a change for 2016, and second I doubt it would be this. Just not cool enough. Anyone live near Fremont? They can't hide the new ones in the parking lot.

    Salvaged Cars: I know, I know... :-)

Yes the frame rails are a part of the front upper-frame, which is a huge assembly. But there's a trick that certified body shops use. If you have a decent mechanical ability and the knowledge you could fix it like new. They would recertify, although you'd still have a branded title.

Just purchased a very expensive paperweight...

Even if freshwater, if water got in the cabin you won't get it running as a car anymore, anything like economically. If the cabin wasn't affected by more than an inch or so there's hope. Most of the exterior electronics are sealed. As to codes, multiple codes can be thrown from one fault...

Just purchased a very expensive paperweight...

This. Get at least the Service Manual. I'll pay. It'll make alot of difference whether it was salt water or fresh. If fresh, alot of things will have a chance. Motor(s) are sealed, battery has emergency vents though which can let water in. Water-resistant, not waterproof.
  41. Q

Let the hacking begin... (Model S parts on the bench)

"Sleazy"? haha, it is my car. I know you think you don't own your software and that Tesla isn't breaching GPL, but all I can say is that's unfortunate. And wk be advised that the car only has the public key for VPN. Read up on SSL/TLS. (As old as the software is it's likely SSL) Given the...

[Rumor] Tesla Model S Facelift in 2016 !

Agree on the lame nose-cone. What a doof. I suggest that for those with lighter colors, paint it the body color. Or paint it satin black to reduce its apparent size. For myself I'm going to wrap my car to look similar to this: No yellow clown colors for me... Yes I'm going to ignore the...

    Determining Options From VIN?

I know. When I said 'determine from the VIN' I meant enter the VIN somewhere and get the build, not decoding the VIN. That's why I say that likely only Tesla has that info. I just wish there was a way to access it.
  45. Q

    Determining Options From VIN?

Nah, I've got all that, but thanks. There's also this. I mean options like the Premium Lighting Package, leather seats, and so on, for a particular VIN. Options purchased for a particular vehicle that aren't reflected in the VIN.
  46. Q

    Determining Options From VIN?

I wish there was a way to determine which options a given car has (or doesn't have) from the VIN. (I'm looking at a used car remotely) I suspicion that this is information that only Tesla would have. Did a search here and the first 5 pages of threads had nothing.

If you only use Tor for dicey things, no wonder they would want to watch you. You stick out like a sore thumb. But the actual fact is that most Tor traffic is relatively innocuous. It is clear that people here are not familiar with Tor. While it is not possible to prove a negative, I...
