Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

An off road Y wouldn’t interest me. But a trailer towing special with 400 plus miles of (non towing) EPA range would. Maybe a 500 pound hitch capacity. We know a lot of others towing that would also love this. It’s a camp fire conversation thing. 😊

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

In Canada as of last night the shorter range model Y is now available. As well the AWD long range is now available for the 5000 dollar federal grant (as well as the shorter range). The Mustang Mach E’s are piling up on the ford lots here.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yah we use it all the time. And in the city as well. Very cool. But no where near any kind of self driving level. Get rid of the “full self driving” name and just call the whole thing “autopilot”. FSD is an embarrassment at the first intervention which doesn’t take long in the city. Jmho.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. Overall good outlook for the company. But too much reliance on FSD going forward. More people need to drive an FSD vehicle to see just how far it is from even a limited level 3 system. It has changed marginally in the last 18 months and in many ways is worse. Keep developing it sure but...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

FSD is absolutely no where close to a personal driver level. For that it would have to enter a parking lot and park itself. Right now it can’t go 500 metres in town without an intervention. And it would rack up thousands of dollars of fines on a simple 10 minute drive downtown. Maybe...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

A Mach E in Canada is roughly the same price as a model Y AWD here in BC. They are readily available on car lots.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

But weird that they are not adjusting Canada. It’s definitely cheaper to buy in the US and import it to Canada now.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe. But the dozen or so superchargers with magic docks right now are all V3’s as far as I know.
  9. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

True. But that supercharger advantage is on the way out with tesla opening up the network to other brand. Within a few years buy whatever you like and you can still use the supercharger network.

Yah. Huge regression for us as well. Release notes for 11.4 look good though.
  11. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Well. First BC hydro has to complete a charge route thru BC to the North. That won’t be till 2025 if they stick to their plan. BC hydro does a good job but there are challenges with that route as far as electrical infrastructure.

    FSD discussion

Yah I can try that again. It hasn’t changed results in the past but really it wasn’t a huge problem until the 11 series updates. More than likely the next revision will fix a lot of this. Seems to work that way. I’m not too worried.

    FSD discussion

11.6 is definitely a major regression for us from 10.69 Traffic circles with traffic in them will result in a collision 100 percent of the time now as it no longer cedes right of way to anyone in the circle. If there is a right turn coming up it moves to the left lane, if there is a left turn...

I wonder if these leaked videos of the model 3 remake will Osborne model 3 purchases at all. When are they expected to make production line changes?
  15. W

Thanks. Someone posted a side by side which made it obvious. I like it. 👍

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I can’t tell the difference but I suck at that kind of thing. What looks different from an existing 3? Is this supposed to replace it?
  17. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Very much the case here and min wage here is 17 bucks an hour (Canadian). It is literally causing production issues in everything from furniture factories to boat manufacturers. A working robot with hood AI would be a good seller here.

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

Yah. We have a little propane generator that works well as a home backup power source. But battery APU’s have their plusses and this setup is also a nice backup. The battery charger charges a pair of AGM group 31 batterie with 14.4 volts 7 amps max. The AGM batteries in turn power a 2 KW sine...

I don’t think the sr- had heated steering wheel.

MASTER THREAD: Powering house or other things with Model 3

The car will throw a code as well. Use a small DC to DC converter, plug into the aux acc receptacle (cigarette lighter thingy) and trickle charge a large 12 volt battery. Connect your inverter to that and you are good to go. Good enough for a fridge, freezer or entertainment centre for a couple...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yep. Pretty much 50 percent for us as well at 90 kph. We have toured all over Canada with this combo. A Cybertruck would be a huge step up although honestly I would take a model Y with an extra 30 kwh of battery over the Cybertruck. It won’t fit in our garage. 😊.

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

We like it. We toured over 15200 kilometres across Canada and extensively in BC last season. Great trip. We have lots more planned for this year. This is a 2022 which has a little lighter hitch weight than the 2023’s. (No front bunk). It’s just the two of us and the chihuahua so it’s a good fit...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It is unfortunately a common sentiment and is costing sales. I can’t imagine doing a background check on the ceo of a company to see if I like him/her before I purchase a product. But I see and hear this more and more lately so obviously some feel pretty strong about it. Interesting times.
  24. W

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

No worries. If it helps here is our hitch weight for our trailer. That’s for this trailer.
  25. W

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

I think there is a chart in the manual with load ratings. Just run over a scale and see where you sit with the hitch weight and cargo. You are taking about the 20’s right?

Vote for a Recall of FSD 11.3.3

Well we need em. We have .4. It is like 1 step forward 7 steps back. It’s horrible. Lane selection, traffic circles, stops on railway tracks before intersections. Wow. It’s like starting over again. Hang on tight. I think it’s back to the drawing board. Robotaxis are decades away at this...

So why hundreds of thousands of Tesla buyers are OK paying for features and not getting them except, at best, much much later?

I’m confused on the auto park thing. We have a 2022 Y. We never lost use of our auto park. Was it just certain cars?
  28. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Nah. 😂. Now you are just makin chit up as I never said any of those things. But hey. You do you. 👍. FSD is great. We use it all the time and it’s definitely useful and I have said that from the beginning. My position (and you obviously disagree…and that’s ok) is that we are no where near...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I agree with most of that. And every update brings some improvement. But the rate of improvement really hasn’t changed much and imho at this rate we are probably a decade away from an autonomous vehicle with current hardware. I mean we are not even close to a hands off “ drive me to work while...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

True. But they should recognize the reality of the situation. Eg, missed projections of FSD etc. It comes down to the integrity of the company. It’s a great company but this particular area is a huge miss. They need to be straight up and realistic about it.
  31. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yah. I agree. We use it every day and it’s both fun and to some extent useful. But I’ll disagree with the first part. In my opinion L4 autonomy is not achievable with current cars and hardware. And that’s fine but tesla needs to own that and move on. Jmho.
  32. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe. But seriously. Even Elon has to know that the robotaxi autonomous FSD dream is over, at least for the next decade or two. I personally don’t think it was a malicious deception on Elons or Teslas part, but they need to come clean on this fantasy of robotaxi being a reality with the...
  33. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Lol. Anybody thinks that we are close needs to go for a drive in an FSD car with the latest greatest software. 😂. Maybe a decade at best. It’s a great system and we enjoy using it every day. We probably do 95 percent of our driving with it. But it’s no where close to any kind of autonomous...

Yes I get that. I’m just curious how many have been built so far. 50? 200? Are they even still on limited production? There seems to be little info on this and even the Doritos guys have gone quiet. Yah. I saw that article. But haven’t seen a thing since then so I’m guessing that was the end...

Tesla walks away from public funding for Superchargers because of payment system integration

Would they be allowed to charge more for certain brands?
  41. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Absolutely. FSD is getting pretty good. But again yesterday after a pretty successful drive it failed to yield to a van in a traffic circle and without intervention would have resulted in a collision. A couple days ago It also entered an intersection after the light was red to make a left turn...
  42. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sure. But that is probably years away. Robotaxis and full FSD was only supposed to be a few years away five years ago. Now it’s looking like we are a decade away or more. It just seems like an easy option that they could add for not a ton of money. Some people like it and find it very useful...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yah. We don’t miss radar at all. Phantom braking is few and far between now. But lack of basic parking sensors and losing auto park seems to be a big thing for some people. I know the car salesman zero in on it right away. “Tesla doesn’t even have parking sensors”. Etc etc. Anyway. We have...
  44. W

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Still. Some basic features that other manufacturers had 10 years ago are dissapearing. No more parking sensors surprises me. A lot of buzz on the various groups about that. Although I am surprised how many people rely on them for parking I see people interpreting the lack of them as Tesla is a...
