    Supercharger - Cedar Rapids, IA

Very nice. Glad to see one here in CR. Not that I will every use it personally since I live here, but good to have one for through traffic on 30, 151, and 380. I can't believe how fast it went in. Looks like a pre-fab unit?

    Real World Heat Pump Effect

Anyone taken a Model Y out into the cold yet (say around 0 C) and driven at highway speeds, say 70 or 75 mph? What is energy consumption? My Model 3 LR AWD is regularly at 350 Wh/mile or more in such situations.

When Tesla tests motors how many amps do they max out at?

In English, motor and engine are synonymous. I agree we should use motor for an electrical engine and engine for a combustion motor, but they are not technically different.

Are winter tires necessary with the long range dual motor AWD?

Always have conditionally appropriate tires on your vehicle. I have known people personally who have lost their lives from not having appropriate tires. If you live in an area with torrential rains, replace your tires at 4/32nds instead of 2/32nds legal requirement. If you live in an area with...

I remember when...my 3 would open without me having to open the app on my iPhone

As a thought, might have you disabled the App from running in the background? On my Samsung it is Settings->Apps->Tesla->Battery->"Allow background activity" and the "Optimize battery usage" I don't have my car yet, but following this thread. Maybe the phone decided to put the App to sleep (my...

Help! My wife is stealing my 3P+

My wife isn't really a car person. She hates my BMW i3 when she has to drive it (she has a Clarity PHEV). Usually if I ask to switch cars for the day I get complaints. My commute might grow much longer and I suggested that we switch cars, and that I drive the Clarity PHEV and she could drive...

    Final Contract?

I think it is more that they are new company and the employees overworked. I also find the experience buying a Tesla more effort than just going to a dealer.

Help me decide which color I should order on my P3D. Go!

Get the color you like. Ignore myths or judgments about car colors, for example on red. The color red is not a ticket magnet and numerous studies show that red cars are no more likely to get tickets. What will get you tickets is driving like an a-hole (doing something dramatically different than...

Winter tires for LR RWD Model 3

As a note, winter tires come in many varieties, it might be helpful to know how much snow, what speeds you drive, etc. If you have a long highway commute with occasional hard pack vs a short drive with deep snow I might recommend different tires. How many miles do you commute per day or week?

America's Tire says 19" factory tires underrated for vehicle

Maybe go somewhere else that won't bother to check. How lame. I suspect you can get a replacement sticker for the 19" wheels, but I wouldn't know who to call for that.

Final Decision: Is Going from AWD to P Worth $9,946-$12,946?

Also note that depending on where you live, the Model 3 Performance will generally cost more than the sticker price difference. In Iowa i would have to buy a second set of wheels/tires for winter at about $2,000. Also, performance tires don't last as long and require more frequent replacement...

    Increasing Trade In Value?

As a note, very few cars are in excellent condition. Usually things like tire wear, etc will take it out of that category. I was surprised that Tesla offered me good condition trade value outright, most dealers come in something under poor and you have to argue with them to get more.

    RWD vs AWD driving feel

The SR+ is a relatively rear heavy car, this will make the steering light and the rear want to come around especially with worn tires. I ended up with AWD mainly for driving winter highways, the extra range, and faster charging. I have only test driven AWD, my car is still about 2 weeks out.

    18" vs 20" wheels 0-60 times

I noticed a big difference in my Volt going from very light forged factory wheels and light tires to a much heavier aftermarket set. I suspect with rollout it might not be that different, but the car felt more sluggish getting started and couldn't chirp the tires anymore.

    Possible Model 3

My definitions of temperature, depends on season, if it is going into or coming out of winter Winter is coming: first day with highs around 35 F. Cold, highs around 20 to 30 F, lows around 0 to 10 F, typical winter day in Iowa. Very cold: Highs around 0 to 10 F, lows sub 0 F (like -10 or -20 F)...

Effect of Air Conditioning on Power/Speed?

The battery determines max power in an electric car, and has a max discharge. So the AC could cut into power, but I suspect the car will disengage it should you floor the "go pedal". Most modern gas cars disengage the AC if you accelerate hard too. My i3 will prioritize motor power with...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

Thanks for the help, I went with: Long Range All-Wheel Drive Red Multi-Coat Paint 18’’ Aero Wheels Black and White Premium Interior Autopilot Will think about FSD later this year, I love that this can be bought after the fact.

hybrids are not EVcars , shut them out

Hybrids help reduce gas usage dramatically. I understand the desire for 0 gas usage, but EVs are not 0 gas usage in most areas due to indirect electricity generation. Yes, I understand grid is getting cleaner, but by same measure, if people move from normal ICE to HEV they are also getting...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

As a note, my work charging is free ;) (but don't want to abuse it either, would offer to pay again) also, 15 MWh for me would be about $1500 per year if it was all charged at home. So a difference between S and 3 might be a couple hundred per year. I checked a Challenger SRT and it would cost...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

So the back story is my wife might take a job in Des Moines, IA where I work in Cedar Rapids. It is easier if I commute. My wife drives a Clarity PHEV and I have an i3 REx. I already suggested trading cars with her, but she does not like the i3. She said I could get a Tesla then she would trade...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

Thanks again everyone, sounds like LR is way to go if I want hop in and drive (should work and/or home charger be down I could go on route with superchargers without issue like in SR+). Secondly, how are the other features on Premium interior, is sound upgrade worth it and other options like...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

Thanks, that is really helpful. One of the reasons I have ruled out cars like a used Bolt EV are due to lack of adaptive cruise and AP, and the Leaf SV+ is same price as Model 3 SR+ so don't see a reason to go with it either. I suppose it really is smarter going with the LR AWD, then I can use...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

Thanks guys. I will charge at work (at least 8 hours at 6.6 kW) and home (overnight with 7.2 kW) and I can use supercharger if necessary (rather avoid it). Thanks for the link to ABRP, I didn't realize they have modeling information for all the weather conditions and battery degradation. It...

Long commute question, SR+ vs LR vs S 90D

My commute might grow a lot, like from 5 miles to 110 miles one way. I will of course work with my office to work from home some days, etc, but I am looking for an excuse to go from my i3 REx to a Tesla. Thoughts on SR+? I am looking at 110 miles averaging about 65 mph (usual route) or...
