looking for rim saver/protector for model Y 20" Induction Wheels

I have Talsem wheel protectors which needs a bead breaker to install. I used to have Rimsavers but “someone” still managed to curb the rim because with enough force, it will rip it off the wheel because it’s basically double side taped on. With the Talsem, curbing it shifts the position but...

Trailer wiring and a dangling connector

The OEM connector for the trailer hitch is accessible with the rear bumper removed. It’s actually not that hard. There are a bunch of videos online.

    Talsem wheel rim protector

The Rimblades I had looked great but ultimately, offered only light protection. They did their job and needed to be replaced after some curb rash. A quick Google search led me to Talsem. Took longer than I thought to receive them (shipped from outside the US). I installed them when rotating...

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

If you’re really skeptical about it, take the wheel to a rim shop and they’ll re-machine the mating surface of the wheel to match the stock lug nuts. I started overthinking the whole spare tire thing. I even ended up buying 2 of them (a steelie and the aluminum one when Modern Spare was on...

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

The 255/45-19 tire has a 28.04” diameter and the 255/40-20 tire has a 28.03” diameter. The spare tires are either taller (Murano) or shorter (Equus) than the stock tire but still works.

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

I also have this kit, along with a 12v compressor in the trunk. Tried it on this and it leaked. To close to the edge. Used the spare for almost a month because the Tesla specific tire was back ordered.

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

It’s a perfect fit. When the wife had a flat, she drove around for about a month waiting for a replacement tire as it was back ordered (no FWY).

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

The spare does not fit anywhere but the trunk (no sub-trunk, no frunk, etc.). I bought the adapters but ended up not using them. The conical lug nuts do a good enough job centering the aluminum wheel.

Brand new Y with flat tire - my journey

Running the spare now. Driving local / no FWY anyway, so no problem driving on the spare until the replacement arrives.

Brand new Y with flat tire - my journey

Well, having a spare and tools ready to go sure paid off. Got a flat the other day. It’s unrepairable. Need to wait up to 2 weeks for the exact tire replacement to arrive at the tire shop. I certainly got screwed… looks like a machine screw.

    Colmo ceramic key ring

it’s been holding up great. I even got one for the wife since it’s her daily driver. She reported back one day that her phone stopped working and the ring allowed her in without her rummaging through her purse for the key card.

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

Some final pics on the Equus spare. I mounted it on the front and went for a ride. Everything worked without drama. Being a 19” wheel, there was plenty of room for the front caliper.

Brand new Y with flat tire - my journey

I pieced mine together because Modern Spare was on back order. See this post as I started out with a 18” steelie donut and ended up with a 19” aluminum rimmed one: DIY Spare Tire Kit

Brand new Y with flat tire - my journey

I assembled my own spare tire kit for my Y. I’ve had 2 flats this year on my Bolt EV. The spare kit I assembled for that car came in quite handy.

Just got my Jeda Hub. It’s nice. I would say it was worth the wait. I like that the door that hides the SSD is magnetic. It also comes with a self adhesive metal backing for the SSD to keep it in place. https://flic.kr/p/2kbui9p https://flic.kr/p/2kbtQUV

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

Got an update on this. I recently got a 19” alloy spare tire from a Hyundai Equus with a T155/70-19 tire. The tire has a 1150kg / 2536 lbs limit which is enough given the MY GVWR / GAWR FT/RR of 5302 lbs / 3004 & 3306 lbs. This tire also has a diameter of 27.5”, which is only 1/2” less than...

A toupee for my bald dash

After closely inspecting the dash cover, it ends just short of the defrost vent openings at the edge of the windshield, so no it does not affect the defrost.

Really? Tesla is a little too cost conscious!

I have a Bolt and a Y. I pieced together spare tire kits for both. When I was looking, the Modern Spare kit was on back order so I pieced a kit on my own. See link. DIY Spare Tire Kit

A toupee for my bald dash

A toupee for my bald dash

I got a Coverking custom dashboard cover. Got the black polycarpet one for $54 shipped. Unlike other dash covers out there, this one covers the whole dash. Goes all the way to the windshield. The material is very lightweight and supposedly transparent to sound. The purpose for this is to...

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

    DIY Spare Tire Kit

I’m waiting for a vinyl spare tire cover to arrive then I’ll start figuring out where to put it. I noticed that the sub-trunk also has a liner. Maybe there’s room in there? If there isn’t room for it anywhere to hide it, I may have to lay it right on the trunk and somehow secure it. Maybe...

    Platform bike rack

The design of the MY hitch reminds me of my first hitch for my Bolt EV. It mounted on a single vertical plane and easily got bent after one use. Thanks to this thread, I’ll hold off on the MY hitch. As for suggestions on a light bike rack... instead of a platform type rack, reconsider a...

    Tesla Compact Hatch Coming?

I would love a compact hot hatch with 350-400 miles of range, AWD and a tight turn radius. Our Y has a 19.9’ turn radius while our 07 Expedition’s turn radius is 20.4’. Previously, my 07 Yaris hatchback had a 15.4’ turn radius. With a manual transmission, that car was fun.
