    Huge Model S software glitch...

The ability to update is a blessing and a curse. How many other car companies continue to push free upgrades to customers for years after purchase? Most traditional car dealers will charge you $500 just to update the maps in your GPS system after you drive off the lot. I’m not a Tesla...

    Huge Model S software glitch...

After multiple calls and messages with Tesla Service and 2 days of troubleshooting, the car is back to “normal”. They had to push a new “update”. I’m assuming it was to repartition the navigation sectors on the cars hard drive because the maps would not re-install over WiFi. They did confirm...

Until a few hours ago, the reset was simply rebooting the system. Not anymore, apparently.

    Huge Model S software glitch...

My MCU2 SiriusXM was not working tonight so I tried to reset the system using the buttons on the steering wheel. Bad idea. Some new glitch in the software caused that to do a full FACTORY reset. I lost all my settings, data, etc. I can’t even pull my car into the garage tonight because I...

Fascinating YouTube videos disassembling Tesla Motor and Electronics...

This is a fascinating video series where a professor of Automotive Engineering at Weber St. University dissects the rear drive unit and power system of a Tesla Model S. The videos are long, but very detailed and useful to understand how Tesla's actually work...

New Toyo Tires on my MS

I just got the Toyo Proxes Sport A/S tires on my 2017 P100D Model S with square 245 x 21” wheels. Love them so far. I had cheap Nankangs before and they only lasted 1 yr. Much quieter and a much smoother ride so far. Highly recommend.

Upgraded MCU1 to MCU2 - Are you experiencing New Problems?

Center console USB ports won't work (I think they forgot to plug them in) and I can't sign in to YouTube because I get a "insecure browser" warning. Other than that it's working great.

    MCU2 + trash cans...

Since completing it would have required driving in every one of my neighbors' yards, I deferred to opportunity.

    MCU2 + trash cans...

Tesla has included rendered trash bins in their visualizations with the MCU2 upgrade. Seems kind of silly. Today was trash day and my center display looked like a slalom course.

Direct links to Tesla chat support...

I spent some time on Tesla's website today figuring out how to get to their chat support. Here is the link and the specific paths to get to chat support through the Tesla website: Link: Tesla SSO - Sign In You can get to the chat feature from any of the following submenus if you click "Yes"...

    Small Screen Font on UI

If you go to Tesla support and get to their chat feature complaining about the small font size, the comments will be escalated to engineering. The chat rep said they are getting lots of complaints about it, so hopefully a fix will be forthcoming. Also, it makes no sense to move the gear...

USB not working after MCU2 upgrade?

Neither of the USB ports in the center console of my 2017 Model S are working after I got the MCU2/SXM upgrade yesterday. The rear-facing console ports and a USB adapter plugged into the cigarette lighter will also charge. Is this a common problem?

Tesla Covering Some MCU1 Issues for Some Owners

I just moved my appointment from Nashville to St. Louis because I was told they could do both the MCU2 and radio upgrades at the same appointment.

Tesla Covering Some MCU1 Issues for Some Owners

Trying to negotiate with SvC in Nashville regarding repairing my failing eMMC (2017 P100D) vs. the MCU2 upgrade. No discount. I asked them to do the MCU1 eMMC warranty repair followed by the MCU2 upgrade w/ SXM ($3000) and they want an extra $750 as a "core charge" to give me the MCU1 unit...

I think it still uses the SXM tuner, since the service cuts out when I pull in my garage.

    Sirius XM update...

I was surprised to see a significant upgrade to the Sirius XM interface in the latest software update for my 2017 Model S. I thought Tesla was phasing out SXM with the MCU 2 upgrades... Seems weird unless they have finally heard customer's disappointment with losing this functionality and are...

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

I agree, but we will have to see how "fully functional" FSD is in MCU1 cars when it is finally released. My hunch is that they are not being fully transparent about what's going on.
  23. D

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

They are also setting themselves up for a class-action lawsuit by going this route. They did not make any stipulations regarding limited functionality of FSD in older vehicles when they sold the product and if they don't deliver, I can't imagine they will have a good argument to justify it. My...

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

I thought the gauge cluster functions on MCU2 were handled within the MCU but on MCU1 vehicles there was a separate processor. Not sure how that complicates the install, or how they work when MCU1 is removed, but it might be something to keep in mind before cracking the center console and...

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

I'm undecided, but leaning towards "no" for my 2017 Model S with FSD. SXM is pretty much the only media I use in my car and losing that would be insane. If they made it seamless by installing the streaming app on the unit I would consider it strongly, but it makes no sense to pay $2500 to lose...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Just curious about optimal battery charging for my Model S P100D...if I'm headed to a supercharger to plug in and it's cold outside, should I flip the car into "Ludicrous Plus" mode to warm the battery before arrival?

    Driver-side door handle won't retract...

I've read lots of posts about issues with door handles failing to present and requiring replacement. I seem to have a different issue on my 2017 Model S. The driver's door handle won't retract most of the time. I can hear the motor spinning but the handle doesn't move. If I then push on it...

    Pre-owned Title/Registration Nightmare...

I recently (12/10/2019) bought a pre-owned Model S from Tesla. I live in Kentucky but drove to Sanford/Orlando to take delivery and drop-off my trade-in. It's one-month later and I still can't Title/register my car. When I took delivery, I was given a packet of information that the Tesla store...

Wheel sizes and its affect on range

I don't think the calculations are as simple as "bigger wheel = worse range". There are two major factors that influence efficiency...wheel weight and wheel diameter. Wheel weight determines the energy required to get the wheel spinning and wheel diameter determines rolling resistance. Just...

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

I've been driving my P100D Model S with the square 245/35/21 All-Season setup for about a week now. For daily driving, I don't notice any difference except a quiter ride (likely the softer tires at colder temps). I do notice that the back end feels a little squirrely accelerating in ludicrous...

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

I hope this is my final question in this thread, and this has me worried. The only 245-35-21 all-season tires I can find are the Nankang's that have a 96Y XL speed/load rating. Unfortunately, it looks like this setup will be under the rear GWAR by 60lbs (30 lbs per tire). To be clear, I never...

12V battery warning went away after update...

I installed the new software update yesterday and afterwards, the 12V battery warning I'd been getting consistently for the past 3 days has vanished. I contacted the mobile service rep and they still recommended getting the 12V battery checked out. Is the 12V battery something that throws...

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

Thanks for the tips. I decided to swap the back wheels from 21"x 8.5" rims (found these online for $235 ea) 21-Inch 2012-2017 Tesla Model S Wheels for Sale – Front Wheel and get these tires: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nankang-AS-1-245-35R21-96-Y-Tire/55190095 Seems like an economical and...

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

Will Tesla sell two 8.5" rims to put on the back? That way I could run a symmetric 245 tire and have the option for the bigger summer/performance tires in warm months and figure out a way rotate the tires more normally.
  40. D

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

What is the downside of getting rid of the staggered configuration and just running 245 / 35 / 21 tires on all 4 wheels?
  41. D

All-Season tires for staggered 21" wheels?

I just picked up my car and it came (from Tesla) with mismatched front and rear summer tires. Since I live in the Midwest, I'd much rather have all-season tires on the vehicle but I can't find a set of tires that will work with the staggered wheel configuration. Has anyone encountered this...

    Model S 12V battery fail...

Considering that the tire pressure monitor flashed a low pressure warning when I was 1 mile from leaving the dealer and this warning came up two days after buying the car, I'd like some documentation that any inspection was performed at all. My hunch is that the "70pt inspection" is total BS.

    Model S 12V battery fail...

Here's another fine indication of the awesome pre-delivery inspection on "Used" Tesla's bought directly from Tesla. I sat down in my car today to the warm glow of a "12V Battery Needs Service" dashboard reminder on my 2017 P100D with 16,000 miles. This happened THREE DAYS after taking delivery...

    Autopilot first impressions

I just made and 800-mile trip from Florida to Kentucky and I thought I’d post some thoughts about Navigate-on-Autopilot. Overall, I am floored with the technology. I managed to traverse 2h of evening rush-hour traffic in Atlanta in the dark in a misting rain and I didn’t have to make any inputs...

    Why not an In-Town preview?

I know Tesla says they will roll out “Navigate on Autopilot” with city driving and traffic light recognition and stop sign recognition at some point. My question is why not do a preview version that enables small-town and suburban driving that can be limited by traffic volume before the full...

    Model S and 2170 battery...

It has nothing to do with size. It has to do with future-proofing the Model S. If Panasonic decides to stop prodcuing 18650 cells, current Model S owners will be screwed if their battery pack needs to be replaced.

    Model S and 2170 battery...

What are the technical hurdles to adapting the Model S to receive a battery pack with 2170 cells instead of 1680? Is it possible for current cars to be retro-fit should these packs become available? To me, it seems the height difference could be compensated by some combination of a new battery...
