Share experience multiple years with Modesta coatings - anybody?

Curious about real-life multi-year experiences with Modesta. What works, doesn't work. Which coating you have (BC-0 ?), on paint only, or over PPF. Still struggle with water spots or not? Swirls/micro scratches? Ever had to deal with partial paint repair after initial coating? Ever...

Model X Autopilot Problem - Pretty Scary

So you decide to try out this new feature, with which you apparently completely failed to familiarize yourself, with your whole family in the car and set to 80 MPH? The problem is Human v2016 which is still in BETA. I'd opt for autopilot 7.1 but I don't get a choice. I want a recall of...

    Old farts reminiscing about computers

IBM 5110. I was 15. First job via high school work exp. program (bookkeeping service - data entry). Programs were written by part time freelance programmer and were extremely buggy. Boss was very frustrated by unresponsive programmer so, since I had taken basic programming in Jr. High...

    Firmware 6.2

I admit I don't have the patience to read all the prior posts. Maybe stating the obvious but, for any "classic" owners in the cheap seats (textile) there is no driver profile and ...therefore..no Valet mode. Maybe all newer cars have driver profiles. I honestly do not know. --------...

    Tesla leasing getting screwed

In this case it appears to be specific to Nevada. See Nevada Dept of Taxation. At a glance, saw 10% on short-term passenger vehicle leases. Seems they may have had to find some way to raise money in light of the "no income tax".

    Shuddering at low speeds

This may be completely n/a but I'll share an observation/thought. I don't know what features you have in your car, however, recently, I took my car in for routine biennial service and they gave me a loaner with all the new driver assist features. My car is early without the features...

    Opticoat and wraps

If you are concerned about real physical debris strikes and chips (which will happen no matter what you do), vandalism, then you need a wrap. None of the coatings will protect against those. Well, some coatings will help against certain types of vandalism but not harsh physical impacts.

Vendor You asked and we made it - Triple Chrome Nosecone Grill "NCG"

I'm not sure if there are any modern cars being made with much "real chrome" these days. Most of the trim is plastic if for nothing else but weight and cost of production. The name of this finish escapes me right now for some reason. Anyway, I believe plastic with a thin kind of metal...

Is damage to alloy rims from tire R&R or wheel alignment just inevitable?

Forgive my ignorance/inexperience since I don't usually have painted alloy rims, or at least none that I really cared much about keeping up. However, I'd be interested to hear from people with real first hand knowledge about these processes. What are reasonable expectations for avoiding...

Hand wash and microscratches: Any car wash recommendations in the West LA area?

It definitely seems like a losing battle. After 20 months I have essentially no swirls and not many micro scratches. There is a certain amount of that happening when driving with misc debris moving across the paint while in motion anyway. However, it's taken far too much of my life to try to...

Would I still get the federal 7,500 Tax Credit???

CA may also work with you since you are replacing with another qualified vehicle. We had asked them a couple years ago when we got PIP and were thinking about getting the Tesla. They indicated it was possible. We never put it to the test as we kept PIP for 2nd car but you should ask them.

Paint Correction and Modesta Coating by SpeedFreak in Chantilly, VA

Cool. Please try to find time to report back your experience over time with Modesta on the film with the self healing and also just the coating's micro marring and water spot resistance. It's really great to see the cars when they are new and just corrected and coated but I'd love to...

San Diego Man's $58,000 Nightmare with a (Salvage Title) Tesla Model S

Actually, I apologize. I understand what you were trying to say. I usually don't post too much because I do understand that most people don't really want to hear what others think, they want to be heard. It's not like a real conversation and I know most people are just waiting to pounce on...

This is great. Thank you so much for doing this. I just can't stomach how many people think this is not possible and not happening or just have no idea what is happening. It's happening, and all too quickly. So many people are stuck in their little man made grind and don't see what's going...

One Year Anniversary! Add your anniversary photos here?

As Elon has pointed out, EVs become instantly cleaner if the production grid becomes cleaner. If these idiots were so concerned about where electricity comes from, maybe they should start voting with a conscience instead of ignorance and support the necessary change. An ICE has nowhere to...

ICEing at SCs and how to handle it

As with most things, it's likely multiple issues. The "flaunting" will be an excuse they make up to justify their actions and, in fact, some will see themselves as the self-righteous rebels against the EV movement "telling them" what they should drive (undermining their "rights")...

And then...Sh!t like this happens that makes you think it's all just futile. Driving home last night stopped at traffic light. Cars in front, cars behind. Then, felt an odd little sensation like "clunk/bump". Wasn't moving, what the heck could that be. Look behind, what the....yeah the...

Please Stop Me from spending $$$$ on the Exterior

As Moe said you don't have to do anything. IMO it's not a matter of deficient paint. It's more of an aesthetics issue and how much it matters to you. Yes, Tesla paint has the reputation of being relatively "soft" as compared to some others but the art and science behind engineering paint...

Looking for 22PLE or Modesta coater in Orange County, CA

Moe - I think you may be referring to the Avery Nano Fusion PPF? That is actually what Tesla puts on if ordered from factory. I'm not sure if that varies by region or is still consistent but that is what was installed on mine last yr. It repels fairly well. They still recommended something...

Suntek vs XPEL Ultimate: Visible edges

Suntek responded to the product question and, essentially: PPF-S is a product they started offering to their dealers this year but it does NOT have their proprietary self-healing top coat. Per suntek, the PPF-S has a coextruded top coat. The latter construction is sold with Cap sheet to...

Looking for 22PLE or Modesta coater in Orange County, CA

sorry it's me again chiming in I think pretty much all of the PPF mfrs seem to recommend SOME kind of last stage sealant or wax (usually synthetic vs petroleum based) even on their top coated films. I too have heard many different opinions about putting glass/ceramic coatings over PPF...

Should EVs Make Artificial Sounds at Low Speeds?

Okay, what about the "noisy" car drivers who don't pay attention to anything because they are staring at their crotch all the time texting, rolling through stop signs, etc. Not to mention the pedestrians who are doing the same thing and not paying attention to where they are walking. They...

Suntek vs XPEL Ultimate: Visible edges

One thing that strikes me is comments from installers coming up time and time again indicating that there can be quite the variation in quality of film produced by the same mfr and the same general product line/brand. This does not seem to be limited to one particular mfr either. In fact, I...

    Open Letter to Elon Musk

Yeah, I didn't quite understand that request. Will it have the little charge cord fairies come out and unplug and stow the cable too? Otherwise, are we not standing there and can we not simply close the little flap? I guess if you are busy showing off the cool mobile app that opens the...

Looking for 22PLE or Modesta coater in Orange County, CA

Yes, but my disappointment with OG was not that it doesn't last forever. I wanted a coating that would generally look "good", make wash maintenance easier to cut down on wash marring, and be the sacrificial barrier to preserve as much OEM paint as possible. I always figured at some point the...

Looking for 22PLE or Modesta coater in Orange County, CA

Wow, Modesta is quickly gaining traction despite the big price tag. Moe, last time I heard you were using a kind of hybrid coating - maybe wax and silica? I cannot recall the name. Did you bail on that for Modesta? I am really curious to know how Modesta holds up against normal wear and tear...

There are some really good paint correction pros in the O.C. area. Looks like Lucci Elite is now doing Modesta. Eric Schuster of Envious detailing used to do 22ple but looks like he has switched over to CQuartz which is also excellent coating (could ask him to do 22ple I guess). Almost...

Cleaning splattered house paint off car

Yeah that plastic is surely a lot more porous than the polished painted areas. I don't see how a power washer would hurt it - just limiting to that plastic and not focusing on the painted areas. Just for giggles have you tried putting some vegetable oil on there and let it dwell a little...

Best low-maintenance option for high gloss on top of PPF?

Many similar threads can probably be found on this general topic with various experiences. My 2 cents: For long-term coating option may also want to look at Modesta such as BC-04 or BC-05. There is a relatively recent Youtube out there you can easily find showing Modesta over Suntek PPF and...

Stolen Model S crashes after police pursuit. 7/4/14

Seems to me primary goal should be to avoid doing more harm than good (more destruction of other property and injury to others). Of course, I'm sure they are also in a basic no-win scenario with these situations. Either get property owner claiming you didn't do enough, or otherwise...this.

Stolen Model S crashes after police pursuit. 7/4/14

Just have to wonder if the police are actually trained to continually make these bad decisions such as engaging in a high speed chase, especially with ANY high performance vehicle. Realistically, what outcome would one expect?

Has anyone willingly returned to the ICE-age?

One of my favorite things about EVs is the quiet and I hope EVs survive and thrive (and become more affordable for all) because I would love nothing more than to never drive an ICE vehicle again. Sure, many of them are much cleaner than they used to be but I just absolutely love the EV...

    Tesla moments

We recently decided to finally give a facelift to a crummy little house we own next to our main house and which we use as a kind of studio/guest house. The carport in front of it serves as my parking spot so we had originally installed the HPWC on the front of that house facing the street...

Forcibly going to PARK when I take weight off the driver's seat.

Yeah, I don't think the seatbelt matters either. First time it happened to me I was in a parking garage moving from one spot to another so I did not bother putting on belt and thought that was a factor. More recently I noticed if I shift enough it happens whether or not I have the belt on.

    Crazy Tesla Attack

Ecology - this is a first for me

Yeah, would also be curious to know because obviously I have been very careful to avoid using much water/liquids in any areas beyond normal exterior body/wheel washes, and I don't want to go the pesticide route. I have thought to myself "well, they obviously would have had to engineer the car...

Ecology - this is a first for me

Black widow spider babies hatched from rear wheel well yesterday. Never knew she was in there. We are nature heavy here, don't use any pesticides, so having other spiders running all over and living in crevices of cars is "normal". Was apparently tucked up far enough so car washing didn't...

    The electrical motor itself

I think at this point it is all software controlled anyway. Originally they were putting different inverters in cars. When a tech came out in January to do a proactive 12v battery replacement, he indicated that at some point they simply started using all the same inverters. I cannot...
