How many miles/days before the error comes back? Seems like buyers could protect themselves by making sure a clause exists to return/refund if the error appears in XX miles or something like that.

I just checked my service history, the drive units were replaced in April 2021 at 68k miles and September 2021 at 72k miles. I must have gotten a bad rebuild the first time.

I have a 2014 pre-AP P85+, out of warranty for battery and DU. I'm just taking the risk. The drive unit was replaced near the end of the warranty period and the battery is still fine (for now). If the battery dies I'll have a big choice to make...

My rear and front tires have both failed in this manner and they were both Michelins Pilot Sports (the older model, PS2). The rears still had good looking tread on them when it happened. I keep my suspension at the normal height all the time. I'll be replacing with a different brand and I guess...

This is for a 2014 P85+ (staggered tires), not a Plaid, and it's the front tires. How do we know if the Pilot Sports are Tesla OEM versions or generic Pilot Sports?

I'm having my 21" front tires (Pilot Sports) replaced tomorrow or the next day due to delamination on the inside edges. But, to be fair, they were pretty worn down. My rear tires failed similarly a year or two ago.

The MCU2 will be worth it for me because both my screens are really bubbly and need to be replaced anyway. I'm not too concerned about any new features. Maybe Netflix will be nice to use a few times a year, but that alone isn't worth $1500.

That is terrible, hopefully they can fix it soon.

Also, keep in mind there will be more owners with < 50,000 miles than the next category, and each category has fewer and fewer total owners than the one before. So it might make the numbers skew towards lesser miles than the actual odds.

2014 P85+ here, plan to keep it for a long time. I would be nervous without aftermarket options.

True, but it would make the overall system (yoke + knob) a functional improvement over a round wheel. Easier to make sharp turns and better visibility of the dash. I'm sure someone could design one that didn't look like a tractor knob. Maybe like Darmie suggested just palming the bottom left...

I'm sure some vendor will come up with a power knob that makes sharp turns easier. The knob spins so you can just grab it and spin around as much as you want. Very popular on boats and machinery.

After living with the new DU for a while I am certain my efficiency is way better. My trip predictions are pretty much spot on even if I go 80+ on the interstate. Before the DU replacement, the trip predictions were *very* optimistic and I had to plan on stopping to charge before the trip...

I think MCU2 is a no brainer for me. I have a bubbly/leaky screen, 8 GB eMMC that's starting to fail, and a 3G modem.

Any older car will likely need an MCU replacement sometime soon if it hasn't already been done. I bought a 2014 and have had to fix one door handle and will, at some point, lay down the $2k for an MCU2 + radio.

Variable steering might work, but what happens if you turn the wheel a bit at 20 mph and then accelerate to 60 mph while trying to turn at a constant radius? Is the wheel going to forcefully un-turn as you accelerate or will you start turning sharper and have to unwind it yourself? I'm guessing...

I think it does make sense for Tesla to offer the MCU2 upgrade discounted by $500 or whatever the cost to replace a daughterboard is. It will simultaneously reduce the number of MCU1s they need to refurbish and give them more used MCU1s on hand to refurbish.

I bought a 2014 P85+ recently and got the same message about needing a payment method in my account, but the supercharging is still free.
