    Charging in Kent?

Thank you guys, very much. Yes, I'd planned to top up at Medway. One of the things that shocked me, looking at the Electroverse and ZapMap apps, was the cost of public charging! I'm used to charging for 7.5p/kWh at home!

    Charging in Kent?

We're going down to the Dover area for a week's break shortly. It seems there's not a lot of Tesla superchargers nearby. Any recommendations for charging in the area? Thanks.

For the second night, IO failed to initiate charging. I've noticed also (it may not be related) that the phone app is either extremely slow to connect to the car or simply fails. The car is parked within a few feet of my router when charging. I only have a Pod Point charger so have no choice...

Apologies for what is probably a very dumb question: When you have an IO charge schedule set up overnight, does the device (mobile phone) running the Octopus app need to be switched on for the duration of the charge? My reason for asking is that IO failed to charge the car last night and it's...

No, I don't think he's from the energy provider police, he's a guy who's trying to use the very generous tariff provided by Octopus fairly. It's people such as you who will f*** things up for all of us by trying to cheat the system. Hopefully, if you carry on, you'll get rumbled and thrown off...

As @Pink Duck says, check if you have some missing data. I've had this happen several times now and it seems to break the automatic billing. An email to Octopus results in it being sorted out

    GivBack

The advantage, for me at least, as I don't do any smart home automation, is that Axle Energy manage the pre-event charging, if there's not enough left in the battery to export. Of course, it remains to be seen if it all works as seamlessly as the blurb suggests....

    GivBack

Has anyone signed up to GivEnergy's GivBack programme? It's another DFS implementation but, as far as I can see, with the advantage that charging the battery prior to the "event" is handled automatically (by Axle Energy). Payment for exported electricity is quoted as "up to £2.10" per kWh...

    2023 Holiday Update

Indeed. I didn't say I agreed with the sentiments in that piece, in fact I found it quite ridiculous. As I find it ridiculous that a thread on the holiday update has descended into an argument about the safety of driving while wearing gloves.

    MOT Bedford or MK

Northampton isn't too far from you and I used Sheltune there back in August for my first MOT. A question for the more experienced IO Go users: If I plug the car in at, say, 10 am and tell the app that I want 80% charge by, say, 6 pm, does IO: 1) Schedule in time slots to fulfil that, even though they may be at expensive times 2) Assume the 6 pm is the following day and schedule...

I thought the idea of Intelligent Octopus Go was that Octopus "rewarded" you with a longer period of cheaper rate in return for allowing them to control your charging to help with grid balancing? Sounds like some want their cake and eat it.

Yes, I know the 6-hour window is cheap rate for all use, what I'm querying is how they charge for any slots allocated outside that window - for all use or only for EV charging? There seems to be some ambiguity.

But why then are Octopus Customer Support telling people that only the EV charging is at low rate (see my previous post)?

Yep, can see the Devices tab. When I checked back just now the charging schedule had appeared..... but only some of it! The notification I had earlier said 0000 - 0230 and 0230 -- 0530 but only the first slot shows on the Devices page. Flipping heck, this is hard work!

So is this the reason that I can't get anywhere in setting up IO? I'm thinking of switching from Go to Intelligent Go, mostly to get the 15p export rate but also for the longer low rate hours and lower rate (7.5p against 9p). I've one question though, regarding solar batteries. I have a 4kW PV array and GivEnergy 5.2kWh battery. With IO, if it, for example...

DIY solution for charging with excess solar without Zappi/Hypervolt

I've been thinking about the issue of using excess solar to charge the car but at the moment my Octopus Go tariff let's me charge for four hours overnight at 9p/kWh whereas I can get 12p/kWh for exported power, through Scottish Power. So, unless I'm mistaken I'm better off financially to export...

Just in case anyone's interested, the car was in with Tesla this morning having the leak investigated. The invoice states that a "top of body" seal was replaced. I'm not sure exactly what that is, possibly the seal that the window presses up against when shut? The tech said that he checked...

This is a bit of a strange one. On three occasions now, in the last few days, on opening the near-side rear door there a mini flood of water pours out. I'm puzzled where the water is finding a way in. The interior of the car is quite dry. Do you think this would be a warranty job? Link to a...

Rushden Lakes now charge for charge!

I think in the case of Rushden Lakes the free charge was "abused" if that's a valid term. As an Octopus Go customer I currently receive just 4.1p per kWh for exported electricity from Octopus. I've recently applied to Scottish Power to put my exported electricity to them, as they are offering 12p per kWh at the moment. I applied several weeks ago and had an automated reply but...
