    FSD now $99 a month

I’m undecided about subscribing to FSD at $99/month. I drive 12,000 miles a year if traveling, maybe 10,000 or so locally if I’m not. With that metric, assuming I subscribe for an entire year, and drive 12,000 miles/year, FSD cost me $0.10/mile. That’s not the entire valuation. City driving...

Bought a used Tesla charger off eBay, how do I connect it to my WiFi?

When you connect to Wi-Fi it doesn’t work on 5G. You have to connect on 2.4Ghz. Make sure your router provides the correct signal. Info here: https://www.tesla.com/support/charging/wall-connector/installing

    FSD now $99 a month

So the choice is to buy FSD for a one time fee of $12,000, or pay $99/month. Let's see - $12,000 earning 5% provides $600/year in interest, or $50/month. So Tesla is saying that I can keep my $12,000 in the bank (or where ever I choose), currently earn 5% in an insured money market fund, and...

FSD 12 perspective from a previous skeptic

Interesting thread. I bought a Tesla for many reasons, and they impact how I’ll view my ownership over the coming years. My perspective isn’t unique, but as a senior citizen it may differ from others. My primary reason for buying my Tesla 3 in 2018 is the SuperCharger network. Without that...

Discussion: Resale values - depreciation -- Time to buy resale or wait?

Greetings! I can't help notice how much my car has depreciated in less than a year, and likely will continue to do so. The tax credits helped ease the entry price, but the relentless price cutting and model changes makes depreciation far more impactful than expected, especially so since the...

Bought a non-running Tesla Model S at auction - Have questions

I enjoyed reading your post, but I wonder if your ICE rebuilding skills extend to EVs in general, and Teslas in particular? When you add up the cost of both cars, and expected time spent putting things back to operating condition, what will be the total you’ve invested? For that amount are you...

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

Forgetting for a moment what the RoboTaxi may look like, I wonder about liability. If Tesla owns all the taxis, and there is no human intervention, why would anyone want to take on that liability? If they make them available for retail purchase, how will the owner get the needed insurance...

24 Model 3 SR "Highland" review from an enthusiast's POV

Glad to hear that Tesla has upped its game! Battery technology still seems "in transition". I bought a 2023 AWD Model Y, Austin Build with 4680 batteries and GigaPress manufacturing in April, 2023. At the time the car was $47K, plus fees/etc, about 3K less than the Long Range. I bought the...

I use this one. Wall Monitor for Tesla | Wall Monitor It works fine for my needs, and can be upgraded after purchase if you want more detail. I have the now obsolete J1772 Tesla Wall connector, which charges my Tesla with an adapter, and my wife's BMW plug in hybrid. The app captures both...

With transfer of FUSC, which Model Y should I get?

I believe the brake calipers on the Performance are larger than the standard model. You'll have to check if the 19" rims will fit. Even if they don't, I test drove the Performance car extensively and the ride with the larger tires/rims is fine, especially if you're used to performance...

Will the J1772 Tesla Wall Charger charge both my 2023 Model Y and my wife's 2021 BMW 330e J1772 equipped car?

As I posted earlier I have the "orphaned" J1772 Wall Connector powering both my Model Y AWD (Austin 4680, Giga Press) and my wife's BMW330e plug in hybrid. I bought it to power both cars easily, and wanted an "all Tesla" solution by using the standard J1772/NACS adapter that came with my Model...

Charging stops after a few minutes at home with wall and mobile charger, works with public charger

Another vote for loose wiring. The Wall Connector has a thermal sensor built into the device. It's designed to stop charging if heat builds up to levels considered "unsafe". When the wires are loose the wires tend to heat up, triggering the sensor. Wall Connector instructions require...

MY - AWD no longer on order page

Mac015 - You raise interesting points, some of which I didn't consider when getting my 2023 MY SR. Thanks for the post. A few thoughts: I deliberately chose the new battery pack since it's a structural frame member. Adding the GigaPress construction was also a deliberate choice to help...

    Tesla insurance safety score

It's been a dozen years since Elon said that Full Self Drive will be fully operational "Soon". When I bought my first Tesla in 2018, the claim was "right around the corner" for FSD. I'm still waiting. Given that, why should I think that Beta software to evaluate driving safety will be any...

    Wipers

The bigger problem, at least for me, is that when engaging AutoPilot the wipers are set to AUTO. They can not be overridden. The result is that often the AutoPilot is useless when the wipers sense rain, or if there are insects on the sensor area. It's very annoying and there is no fix. The...

Looks like it's headed to being official - $400 registration fee and $200 annual fee in Texas for EVs

We have similar fees in NC. I’m not surprised that this law was enacted, but I am surprised that the vote was unanimous: 145-0. Tesla just shifted from CA to TX as official headquarters. I would have thought at least a few politicians would register some small indirect support for EVS by...

No live person, ended up canceling order

Likely the issue is related to how the state regulates auto dealerships. Looking at 2023 Model3 LR. Tell me why I should/shouldn't do it.

FYI - Carvana/CarMax tends to be very generous with Tesla pricing, but they also reduce their offers quickly if their inventory builds. Looking at 2023 Model3 LR. Tell me why I should/shouldn't do it.

A few things to consider that may help you pick the best car for your needs: The base Model 3 charges to 100% = 272 mile range. The LR 80% charge = 264 mile range; 90% = 300 miles. Not a big difference, but the list price difference is $7K. The Prius is FWD, the base Model 3 is RWD. If snow...

Review of my first EV after 10 days and the first roadtrip (2023 Model Y Performance)

Glad you're enjoying the car - it's a wonderful machine. One thing to experiment with is tire pressure. Originally Tesla had tire pressures pumped to 46PSI, later reducing it on newer models to 42PSI. Their aim was to maximize mileage, and the higher pressures helped, but at the expense of...
