    England M6 Charnock Richard SC

Glad I took this at face value heading south last week and skipped CR southbound. We did top up on our return trip (almost all the chargers were in use), wish we’d used the hotel facilities as the path to the main services was rather muddy and a nasty road crossing- and then their toilets were...

    MOT recommendations - Dundee area

Figured someone here might have a personal recommendation, but good to know most MOT places ought to be OK with a Tesla nowadays. Cheers.

    MOT recommendations - Dundee area

Hi. Another Model 3 owner here, approaching my first MOT next month (top tip - you can sign up for automated email reminders from DVLA). Can any body recommend a good garage in or near Dundee which have handled MOT testing for a Tesla? Thanks!

Recommended Tesla-approved body shops in Scotland?

Thanks. A shame that's even further out of my way. I took the car to Broxburn recently, got an estimate back in low thousands due mainly to having to take off the front bumper (which apparently is a massive hassle due to all the sensors which have to come out, be put back, and then calibrated)...

Recommended Tesla-approved body shops in Scotland?

According to Body Shop Support | Tesla there are now only two Tesla approved body shops in Scotland: Eastern Western Accident Repair Centre, 8 Westerton Road, East Mains Industrial Estate, Broxburn, Broxburn, EH52 5AU Contact Us in Broxburn, near Edinburgh | Accident Repair Centre Mitchell...

Ripple Energy: "shared solar" -- views?

Splitting the investment as a co-op is the Ripple Business model - they cream off a bit setting up the projects etc. For the customers part of the motivation is directly backing a green energy producer, not just as a financial investment with the pay-off as credits to your electricity bill...

Wheel arch rash and a quick review of Chipex

Makes me glad my Model 3 came with the mud flaps (I never fitted the extensions, would clip on our driveway).

    Recent troubles after 2023.2.10 update...

I lost the personalized shortcut icons on the bottom of the screen (wipers, demist, heated seats etc) with the 2023.2.22 update - hadn’t noticed anything else though, but don’t use personal media accounts. Reset didn’t help, so recreated the shortcuts.

Have I been ripped off by KwikFit?

I did resurrect an old thread so prices will have changed. Looks like you got more miles out of your tyres than me, but again uneven wear on the fronts. Seems could be quite common?

[Tyres] Kumho Solus 4S HA32 (All Season) - Anyone Running these?

Looking on KwikFit or BlackCircles, it was down to these versus the Continental All Season Contact 235/45 R18 Y (98), being the only B rolling resistance all season options coming up. I've ordered a set too, thanks. Mine is also a Model 3 SR+ on 18" rims, but only 24k miles. I'm opting to take...

Have I been ripped off by KwikFit?

Mine too, Tesla Model 3 SR+ with 24k miles from new, and only noticed due to parking at full lock: In fact the rears are due too, although harder to see it looks more evenly worn. Anyway, time for a full set of tyres, and this time all season ones. There was another thread about a Model 3 with...

Cracked Windscreen - Long delay to fix - options?

Booked in with Tesla, just 2 weeks to wait which is better (although the downside is wasting a day visiting the service centre, versus the AutoGlass option at our local KwikFit). Insurance company was fine with this, will reimburse me less the ~£200 excess.
  13. DenkiJidousha

Cracked Windscreen - Long delay to fix - options?

I just got a chip in the black just above the wipers yesterday. Insurance sent me to AutoGlass who said the location meant it couldn't be repaired and they had a 5 weeks wait on parts to replace the windscreen (they've booked me in locally). A short drive today and it is now a 34cm crack, not...

Do they look about the same in terms of curb rash risks?

    Kid's Booster Seat

I've always used the ISOFIX with these in the back seat, and primarily the Maxi-Cosi Kore i-Size (the Diono Everett NXT is in our other car). You may be right about no seat belt warning - child has often said "Wait! I'm still doing my seatbelt" without the car complaining. I'd guess the ISOFIX...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

We used Perth Broxden at the weekend, pretty sure the navigation didn't say to turn into the P&R carpark itself (but I knew where I was going so possible I just wasn't listening carefully?)

Tesla asking for votes on SuperCharger locations [UK and Ireland]

The site suggestion page doesn't autocomplete with village or town names, like "Crainlarich". However, it would accept "Glenfalloch Rd, Crianlarich FK20, UK" which was my suggestion as a gap on multiple West Coast routes.

Tesla asking for votes on SuperCharger locations [UK and Ireland]

Tweeted earlier tonight (people might have missed it, lots of political news coverage in the UK tonight): I voted for Northern Ireland, Wales, and some of the gaps in the Scottish and Northern English coverage. Still plenty more gaps I'd like to see filled which we not being suggested yet.

Brand New Model Y - Metallic Taste

Also if charging the car has an impact, that's likely temperature related - again fits with off-gassing volatiles. Weather and schedule permitting, I'd leave it with windows open and AC on for a few hours to try and speed this up.

    Extra Uses For Off-Peak Electricity

We charge the cars overnight, but that's it. The washing machine is too noisy (and has no delayed start timer), and we don't have any electrical heating or hot water as yet (but hoping to get off gas eventually). I'd seriously consider a home battery, was hoping capital costs would come down but...
  25. DenkiJidousha

So what do you say in reply to your car?

Perhaps, but even with Joe mode the car is overly noisy. I think our young children are getting used to it - usually a beep then a tsk noise of disapproval from the driver in frustration about the Tesla failing to understand country roads.

    Boot strut recall

Likewise now on 2022.20.7 and touch wood the strut is not complaining, but does feel premature to say this is solved. Fingers crossed 🤞

Fluid leak near front of battery

Had this recently (unusually hot in Scotland this summer so used A/C more than usual), Model 3 was parked near level and dripping from the middle of the front end of the battery (as in the video). Later the same day, when parked on a slope nose up, seem to drip from the back of the battery pack...

Model Y Roof Rack in stock

Pulling out the rubber with pliers worked nicely, but trying to put it back after cutting to length is very frustrating. (I was only fitting one bike rack, so only pulled the rubber out part way, cut it, and then inserted the piece back on the other side)
  30. DenkiJidousha

    Boot strut recall

On my third strut and again sometimes it does the double beep and fails to open fully. Currently on 2022.12.3.6 which did not fix this (don't think that was expected but I was hoping it might have).

    7kW or 22kW at Work Location - Model 3

Of the choices offered, for the sake of just £250 up front, I'd go for the 22kW. You'd get faster charging on the Tesla Model 3, as would many other staff cars (e.g. many Zoe cars can charge at 22kW AC). However, I'd rather go for at least a double unit or a pair of 7kW chargers - even for a...

Model Y Roof Rack in stock

If the glass roof makes you nervous, you can probably pay to have it fitted by Tesla. They charged by approx £50 plus VAT to fit my M3 roof rails.

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

That's probably the PIN protected upper speed limit, e.g. 85 mph to stop loan driver going to fast (e.g. adult child).

    [UK] 2022.8.x

I got 2022.8.3 this week, and it also asks about sharing cabin data.

I now have software v2022.8.3, curious to see if that does make any difference to the boot strut... bit early to say but fingers crossed.

Model Y - Blind Spot Camera when indicating

Swapping the stalks for RHD would cause more problems than it solved, but nice lateral thinking- it hadn’t come up on my earlier thread: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/rhd-specific-issues-with-v11-ui-changes.253279/
  38. DenkiJidousha

    Boot strut recall

Well, the second replacement strut didn't fix it. Perhaps that software update is playing a role as as been speculated above? I need to log this with Tesla again...

    Boot strut recall

Replacing the boot strut was quick, could have been 5mins - but in my case that wasn't enough. It was getting the the point the ranger was going to give up, and ask me to leave the car at a service centre for a day to get to the bottom of it. The ranger ended up having to adjust the central pin...

    Boot strut recall

Dec 2020, Collected car. February 2022 (Jan?), boot didn't always fully open under power. Early March 2022, Service Centre: powered strut replaced, now with o-ring (photo was requested earlier). Did not fully resolve the boot opening. Late March 2022, Ranger: powered strut replaced again...

    Boot strut recall

I’ve been asked today to send them a video, haven’t managed that today so guess they might postpone tomorrow’s ranger visit…
  42. DenkiJidousha

    Boot strut recall

Using one powered struct rather two (one in each side) may prove a false economy in the long run, Tesla may yet switch to two on new builds and perhaps retrofit as needed.
  43. DenkiJidousha

    Boot strut recall

I've just booked a follow up appointment as replacing the strut and adding an o-ring has not cured it. And while it may be worse in cold weather, it was happening on the recent unusually warm spring days too.
  44. DenkiJidousha

    Stick on vinyl number plates

The green stripe is optional (if your car qualifies). I thought it might look gastly on a red Tesla, but it doesn't actually bother me.
  45. DenkiJidousha

A thought on the 'small' tesla?

A smaller 4 seater Tesla could very well be a primary/only car, so a quoted range of at least 200 miles (enough for 150 real world miles in all conditions) makes sense to me.
  46. DenkiJidousha

A thought on the 'small' tesla?

In my mind a "small" Tesla would just be smaller (probably 4 seats) and lighter, so would get a smaller battery - but still big enough to still have 200 miles of range. Tesla are of course expanding the SuperCharger network, but it much easier to plan if all their cars have a similar minimum...

Good Screen Wash for Model 3?

Tesla Edinburgh topped up my screenwash when it was in for the boot strut etc, I suspected because the warning stopped appearing, but also they listed it as a curtesy item on the invoice.
  48. DenkiJidousha

    Exterior improvements to white M3?

Parked next to this white Model 3 back in January, left me puzzled until I understood they'd wrapped the top half paintwork in black. Looked good.
  49. DenkiJidousha

Is it me, or is the Model Y really ugly?

To quote the Captain Beefheart song Pena, the Model Y is clearly Fast and bulbous! 🎶
  50. DenkiJidousha

    Boot strut recall

It does seem to be borderline in some sense as it appears weather dependent (worse when cold). Likewise I suspect two powered struts would be a real solution.
