Wheel arch paint repair - ADAS reset?

It does have USS. I didn't realise newer cars didn't. I see the Tesla website says summon and autopark don't work on these cars while they make their camera based "Tesla Vision" up to the task of replacing them. Sounds rather like the cr*p auto wipers that don't work properly as Tesla rely on...

Wheel arch paint repair - ADAS reset?

My M3 suffered a slight scuff on the wheel arch in a car park due to someone driving into the next space forwards and clipping it. They owned up and their insurance will cover the repair. However the repairer I'm using at Tesla's recommendation has said "please be advised that your vehicle may...

    AC keeps turning on

I've always been irritated by how the AC seems to have a life of its own. The issue where settings are remembered for the Easy Entry profile can cause the problem, but just recently I've found the AC keeps turning on whatever I do. I have the climate control set to "Lo" but I want AC off. I...

Scratches around door handle from normal use

My three year old M3 has got minor scratches around the door handles, and elsewhere, which seems unusual as I've never noticed this happen on previous cars. I know Tesla doesn't have best reputation for paint quality. Is this a common thing and/or covered by warranty does anyone know? Cheers.

    Occasionally sluggish with hard acceleration

So it's been a few weeks since I turned off obstacle aware acceleration and it's not done it since. I think the feature is another one in the "good idea if it works properly" category.

    Occasionally sluggish with hard acceleration

This is what I'm doing. It's not consistent though. Sometimes I can pull out and take the 90 degree turn without any impact on acceleration and other times it does the "granny power" thing. I'm now wondering if it is the OAA and maybe there has been a car turning in next to me or something...

    Occasionally sluggish with hard acceleration

Cheers for this. I've turned off the obstacle aware acceleration setting and I'll see if that makes a difference. I just thought it was a bit hit and miss to be the traction control.

    Occasionally sluggish with hard acceleration

I've had my M3 LR for about 18 months. Every now and again when I try to accelerate reasonably hard from a standstill the car seems to hesitate slightly before picking up speed. I don't think this relates to battery condition (temp or SOC) as it can do it one moment and be fine the next. I...

Model 3 brake service at home

I don't really see how bits of car can fall on you doing a brake service even if the jack gave way suddenly. The wooden safety block sounds like a good idea though maybe along the lines of in the pic cut out better?

Model 3 brake service at home

Thanks for all your opinions on this. I think I'll use my two trolley jacks to jack up the front and back at the same time and leave it at that. I like the idea of putting a wheel under in case a jack were to fail but couldn't this damage the battery or other other parts of the underside if it...

Model 3 brake service at home

I've read lots of posts about jacking up a Tesla at home. I'm no mechanic but would like to have a go at servicing the brakes which (unlike tire rotations) requires quite a bit of brute force to remove retaining pins and pads. I'm struggling to see how you'd get the car onto jack stands. I...

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Another novice question (!) - is it ok to jack up just one corner at a time? And since you're not supposed to take wheels off etc. until the car is on jack stands, how do you get the car from the jack to the stands with such tiny jacking points?? Cheers!
  13. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Cheers, I was worried about the saddle slipping off the puck but I expect it'll probably stick by the teeth digging into the rubber like you and "android04" have said. I'd read elsewhere that the puck did need to fit inside the saddle which prompted my question in the first place. That's...
  14. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

I've already got the puck, it's rubber but much wider than the saddle. It's about 45mm between the inside of the teeth. I don't know how easy it would be to cut notches in the puck for the teeth to slot in. I could give it a try although I'll probably cut my finger off!
  15. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Thanks for this. It is a 2 tonne jack which is 2.2 US tons. I was wondering if the teeth of the saddle would jam into the rubber of the puck and prevent slippage. I think I'll try this and just be very careful when I start unscrewing the wheel nuts.
  16. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

It's a M3. The aluminium pucks do look like they'd fit but I can't see them in the UK. I'll do some digging. The hockey puck + screwed on nipple is a great idea. I don't have a 3D printer but might see if I can find something that'll do the job. Cheers!
  17. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

I can't find a puck with a nipple that fits in my saddle (that would be ideal!). I'm not sure I want to jack onto the puck that's wider than the saddle. Although it is very rubbery and so maybe it will hold OK 🤔
  18. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Right, cheers, I'll get a small nipple-less one that fits in the saddle
  19. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

So if I'm just jacking up one wheel at a time in order to service the brakes, I don't need a puck at all? Could I just jack directly onto the jacking point without anything on the metal saddle of my jack?
  20. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Cheers for this. I think I'll get one of these. I guess if that were to slip slightly it'd cause less damage than if the metal saddle slipped off the bottom of the Tesla puck and the car fell onto it
  21. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Yes, I've read the puck should fit inside to avoid the risk of slippage. I'm not sure how likely that would be while loosening wheel nuts, maybe.
  22. S

    Are lifting pucks necessary?

Excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge. It's been 25 years since I last jacked up a car. I still have my jack but the saddle is too small to fit the puck I bought and I can't see smaller size pucks available. I'd read not to jack with this set-up due to the possibility of slippage. Is there...

    V11 2022.4.5 doesn't remember USB source

I don't like leaving the car on overnight because of the amount of energy sentry uses. I know what you mean about the USB navigation, but I noticed that once you've used voice recognition to say "USB", and your last track starts playing, if you tap the track name that's playing then it puts the...

    V11 2022.4.5 doesn't remember USB source

This works for me too! I do have premium connectivity and historically it's always been a bit hit and miss whether the car starts off in USB from where it left off. Since the last update or two, it always starts on the radio. It seems crazy that no matter how you select USB from the screen...

Premium Connectivity vs Standard Connectivity + Wifi

Cheers for that. I'd read that somewhere. I've decided to subscribe as I do quite like having the satellite map with the traffic visualisation but I do think it's a bit of a con that you can't have them if you connect to your own hotspot. It's a fairly recent update that allowed you to stay...

Premium Connectivity vs Standard Connectivity + Wifi

Hi. I'm in the UK. My premium connectivity trial is about to end. Tesla say that satellite maps and live traffic visualisation is not available with standard connectivity even if using a hotspot in the car. I tested this and the car was displaying both these features when connected to my...

How to display miles remaining next to battery image on home screen?

When I queried that the rated range had reduced from 337 to 311 miles in 6 months, a ranger told me the rated range does take account of driving habits and adjusts to become more realistic, rather than an indication of battery degradation. Does anyone know if this is right??

Tire repair kit on Tesla tires with sponge lining

Hi. Does anyone know if a foam tire repair kit, such as the one sold by tesla, works on the low road noise tires with a sponge lining running around the inside? My model 3 was supplied with Michelin Pilot sport TO tires which have such a lining. I'm not sure tire foam would penetrate it and plug...

Share Google maps location to model 3 not working from android

Interesting again! I've done some more tests. There was a street address I "shared" which is ignored by the car, yet it will route to it if you input it directly  If you share a house very close by on the same street, the car does route to it! Very strange. I have discovered that...

Share Google maps location to model 3 not working from android

Interesting. I have my phone set to restart overnight and it just worked now. I went and sat in the car to test it. It appears to depend on the location you are sharing. I tried cities, a couple of house addresses and things like shopping parks. If it "liked" a specific destination it would...

Share Google maps location to model 3 not working from android

This feature seems to have stopped working. It has only worked on a couple of occasions. I can wake the car, sit in it and do the "share". The tesla app says the destination has been shared with the car but nothing happens. The car doesn't route to the location nor does the location appear in...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

Yes, I agree, at a high level I'm concluding I can do about 200 miles in my M3 LR in the cold (just above freezing) without preconditioning the battery starting at 90% and ending around 10%, using about 320 Wh/mi. I'm expecting this to increase in summer, particularly as the UK summers are...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

Thanks for this, makes sense and I'll try this out soon. I give up trying to find out the exact full capacity of the battery as I read different things everywhere. Calculating the usable capacity using this method sounds like a more useful approach. I did try using the rated miles to try work...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

I'm struggling a bit to get my head around all this . So to work out range, I'd have to charge the battery to 100% and look at how many rated miles that equates to on the battery meter. Let's say for ease of math, it says 400 miles. If I then drive 50 miles, say, but find the rated...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

When you say to use the rated range, do you mean set the battery meter to show miles and work out the actual miles achieved per mile the meter reduces by? Also, I'm pretty sure the UK 2021 Model 3 has the 82 kWh battery from everything I read. The WLTP range did go from 348 miles on the old...

Model 3 won't wake up from app OR in the car

I certainly didn't have my foot on the brake when I held down the scroll wheels, so I just ignored that! Hopefully the car isn't prone to launching itself into a wall when rebooted  Although I'm an ex-mainframe programmer and no Windows expert, this makes much more sense to me. When I...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

I'm not sure about Wh/km. In the UK the long range AWD has a WLTP range of 360 miles. On an 82 kWh battery that would mean 228 Wh/mile. I only used 410 wh/mile to make the math easier for my example as 1% should be 820 Wh on a 82 kWh battery, and so you'd expect to get 2 miles per 1%...

How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity

Apologies if this is covered somewhere in the 22 pages of comments  but given all the talk of battery calibration, how accurate is the percentage battery remaining and the wh/mile figures given in the trip counters? I've got a 2021 Model 3 which has a 82 kWh battery. As such, I'd...

Model 3 won't wake up from app OR in the car

Model 3 won't wake up from app OR in the car

I've never owned a car which only has a 15" laptop screen to provide feedback and without which the car is undrivable (pedals and gear stalk dead and phone app was hanging). A better analogy is "have you never had to hold down the power button to hard reset your phone or Windows laptop?". The...

Model 3 won't wake up from app OR in the car

Cheers for this, I'm quite happy around computers etc but it is a bit offputting when the car is dead and undrivable. I don't like the idea that one day maybe I'll do the two finger salute and the Tesla logo won't appear on the screen!

Model 3 won't wake up from app OR in the car

I've not driven my model 3 for a couple of days but it has been plugged in the whole time. This morning the app was hanging with the "waking up..." message. I went to the car which did open with the bluetooth phone key but the screen would not wake up. I managed to reboot it by holding down the...

Precondition car plugged in vs not plugged in

I'm interested in maximising range. There's a rare round trip I will need to make which will be border line do-able without a charging stop. The quoted range for the 2021 UK model 3 is 360 miles. On a recent shorter trip in 40 degree F temps I calculated it out to be not much more than 200 miles...

Precondition car plugged in vs not plugged in

I've had my 2021 model 3 a couple of weeks now. So, purely from a range point of view, is it best to precondition the battery while plugged in for 30 minutes or so before going on a long trip? I'm guessing this means the car will use less energy heating the battery when driving as it's already...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Hi. So the trip readings don't include preheating etc, but if I'm driving with the heater or AC on, does the reported consumption include that or is it just the energy used to turn the wheels?

Power use while plugged in but not charging

Interesting stuff, thanks. Perhaps it depends whether the "feature" in use is powered by the 12v battery or the main battery. AC and heaters (I guess) would use the main battery (and so use wall power if plugged in) and the radio/display maybe the 12v battery. Perhaps when the car wants to...

Power use while plugged in but not charging

The tesla manual says "Whenever Model 3 is plugged in but not actively charging, it draws energy from the wall outlet instead of using energy stored in the Battery. For example, if you are sitting in Model 3 and using the touchscreen while parked and plugged in, Model 3 draws energy from the...

Power use while plugged in but not charging

I'm planning on getting a PodPoint 7kW charger in the UK for my Model 3 I get next week. Tesla recommend you leave the car plugged in all the time, even when not actively charging. I assume the charger will let the car draw even minimal amounts of power as it likes, even when not actively...

    Non-Tesla Charger Warranty issues

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, I couldn't find it mentioned. I would like to install a Tesla wall charger in Sheffield, but all this talk of additional electrical requirements in the UK and expense is off-putting. However, the Tesla dealer told me if I use any other home charger any...
