    Frunk stopped fully closing today

Just had the same problem with my 2017. I just pulled off the plastic piece of trim around the lock mechanism. Then tried some WD40 and hit the lock button a bunch of times. I also actuated a the levers with my fingers to work in the WD40. Has worked well since. Good luck!

Vendor It’s Electric! The EcoHitch and Tesla Relationship

Hi Torklift, did you finish the new undercover design? I'm about to place an order for the 1.25" version for a late 2017 post refresh.

    Tesla Semi

I'm a huge fan of the concept truck, but I think the design feature that worries me most is the "un-sprung" electric drive units. They are not cushioned from road vibration by the suspension. They are hard mounted to rigid axles, which I presume are half-shafts to allow the independent drive...

I also have not yet received the update. MS60 with AP2 delivered 1/16/2017. Fingers crossed for something soon.

New 60 can be charged to 100% daily without harming long-term battery

Would someone be willing to compare their new software S60 limited to this curve? The equation that matches my supercharging time for the classic S60 is time(hours)=0.28*{ exp(rates_miles_end/120)-exp(rates_miles_start/120) }. It fits nearly perfectly for a warm battery with when...

Aluminum or Steel body for Model 3

One of the most important elements of sustainable transport in my opinion is that the vehicle does not need thrown away after ~12 years. The world doesn't have the endless resources for that. Up here in the snow belt, many vehicles made ~12 years ago have rotted through body panels and an...

Also confirmed the 8mm X 1.25 thread is the exact fit. Range is optimized with tree pointing rearward as with getting it through doorways

How to Replace the Tesla Model S Headlight Bulb (Non-Tech Pkg)

Thanks Loganss for pioneering the way here. Just changed my non-tech MS60 (S11063) halogens. In a pinch I had to buy NAPA version LMP 9005's (high beam), which are made in china as opposed to the OEMs phillips bulbs made in Germany. Tesla uses the high beam spec bulb and does 2-levels of...

    Best P90D Ludicrous video yet!!!

The bearings, reduction gear, and differential gear may see some slight wear. There is little oil film separation available at very low speed to prevent wear of the metal surfaces. Bearings and gears operate without wear when entrainment velocity (think hydroplaning on a micro-scale) is high...

60 and 70D owners, how is acceleration in mountains and above 65mph?

If you hop right into the 70D after a p85d, yes huge diff. However, that's not a "need" issue. I used to have a Saturn Sky turbo (5.5s car), and the MS 60 feels light years faster. You can get a good idea how fast 50-80 will be from the Tesla Model S 60 kWh vs Tesla Model S 85 kWh Performance...

60 and 70D owners, how is acceleration in mountains and above 65mph?

Any passengers I've had simply can't believe the acceleration. Passing is unbelievable, almost stupidly fast, compared to ICE's. I'm an MS60 owner with 45,000 miles, and I would buy the 70D over the 85D even if money was no object due to a number of factors, including efficiency. Coming...

    Connecticut OK's Tesla Sales

Shelbri is correct. HB6820 is still not passed =( HB6820 which passed today was just the dealers getting more protection from manufacturers from what I can tell. Sorry to spread confusion.

If I read this right, it passed through the senate today! The site shows "senate passed" in the list of action on 6/3/2015. (C G A)

Firmware 6.2 - Navigation for non tech package?

Your caption from the release notes range assurance section actually says turn-by-turn guidance, does it not? Is there some other evidence I'm missing? Without turn-by-turn guidance, running out of charge seems very possible which is not inline with Elon's claim on solving range anxiety. The...

Firmware 6.2 - Navigation for non tech package?

The full Antoine St. Exupery quote seems analogous to the purpose of the Model S. "If you want to build a flotilla of ships, you don't sit around talking about carpentry. No, you need to set people's souls ablazewith visions of exploring distant shores." Chevy Volt or Nissan Leaf are like talking...

Firmware 6.2 - Navigation for non tech package?

Range assurance is not excluded, and essential features of range assurance include turn-by-turn guidance to the charging station of choice and estimated range on arrival. That said, it would have very limited usefulness unless the warning appears prior to heading out for the next supercharge...

Firmware 6.2 - Navigation for non tech package?

Every fence sitter who takes a ride in our Tesla's will be further convinced to go electric when they see the trip planning feature that is now included for free, and how little time it takes to charge on a long trip. Punch in an address to their summer vacation home, or winter ski area, and...

CT owners, help Tesla on Feb 6th at public hearing

CT owners, help Tesla on Feb 6th at public hearing

I'll try to support the event. Cuts into work schedule a bit though. I posted this fall after an event at the capital building sponsored by the Connecticut Auto Retailers Association (excerpt below). I was really alarmed by the pro dealer language in the meeting. Complete lack of mention of...

    Supercharger - West Hartford, CT

This location was completely out of service last Friday night (1/30/15), and 7/8 spots ICE'd out to boot. I stopped for Trader Joe's, and thankfully didn't absolutely need a charge. I ended up providing my home charger to a Long Island resident on his way home from VT (not as quick but better...

Who gave up buying P85D because of the smaller frunk?

For my one year old's b-day I was able to fit six 8ft tables and 48 folding chairs in one trip (eight in the frunk). Yes, I did some math and estimated the weight to be in the 'ballpark' of the car's rating, and I was going slow. I'm sort of trying to demonstrate that people can replace their...

Who gave up buying P85D because of the smaller frunk?

I use the frunk a great deal having a 1.5yo in the household. In my frunk lives a full size three wheel baby stroller (quinny buzz) which keeps it from rolling around and taking up the rear trunk. Not shown in the picture is the toddler seat which can attach to the stroller and the entire...

Effects of Winter on Energy Consumption

You have to laugh a bit at how in a thread titled "energy consumption" we wandered to range, snow tires, superchargers, electricians. Seriously though, anyone see improvements over my numbers from this winter? My study was last winter, and I'm curious if software or hardware updates have...

    Supercharger - West Hartford, CT

The West Farms mall supercharger appears fully functional! Just confirmed nearly 100 kW on my 60 kWh at the beginning of charge. I was the only one in the charging stalls, with the exception of 3 ICE's who spilled over from the holiday mall shopper. Better than Black friday when all 8 stalls...

Is the Supercharger option worth $2,000?

I'm also a 60KWh owner who opted to enable after the supercharger network started to look more promising here in the Northeast. I had similar spreadsheets and the ICE back-up plan. Kindly Tesla ran a special at the end of 2013 for 60KWh owners to retro upgrade for the original $2000. Who...

Drive Electric Event - Sat. 9/20 - UCONN Storrs (Need other Teslas to Join Me)

This is a call to arms for owners and electric car proponents in CT. Let's get Tesla's in front of the young progressive minds at UCONN. Until the law is changed, Tesla can't bring their own vehicles, and the young minds at UCONN will be uninspired by more Leaf's, Kia Soles, and BMW I3s (or...

Amsterdam, the Netherlands looking for Model S & home exchange vacation aug-sep

Wow, that's a great idea! I love northern Europe, and we live halfway between Boston and NYC. We are within reach of the I-95 supercharger network. Only problem is the timing is off a little. I have a couple extra weeks vacation, but my wife does not. We discussed me and my 1yo doing the...

Charging while preheating cabin w/ HVAC

@Cottonwood I get somewhat different estimate for pre-heating the battery (perhaps I'm missing something). The following article gives Specific heat (Cp) for the Panasonic 18650 cell (http://jes.ecsdl.org/content/146/3/947.abstract) as 0.96 J/(g-K) or 960 J/(Kg-K). Since one Joule equal one...

Supercharger - Greenwich CT - Merritt Parkway

I can also confirm the northbound charging station is working (northernmost stall). Used it on the way home from the LA-NYC record setting finish (1/2/14)! On the MS60 I saw charging rates as high as 220mph I believe. The photo shows 198mph towards the end of my brief stay.

    Tesla Cross-Country Trip

Same assumption on my end. Since they can get 170miles range in 30 minutes, and google only shows 2hrs 4mins from Newark to City Hall, I would think City Hall is possibly 2.5 hrs from arrival at Newark. Just enough time for me to shoot down from the Hartford area...which is totally nuts. But...

    Tesla Cross-Country Trip

Cali time zone would make sense. Looks like sunset happened during their photo at Maumee. So, if they hit Maumee at 5:40pm EST, then Google shows 654mi to City Hall. Optimistically traveling at 70mph this would take 9hrs 20min. Add 3 stops at an optimistic 0.5hrs ea, and its 10hrs 50min...

    Tesla Cross-Country Trip

Anyone else guestimating a 2am-ish arrival at City Hall in NYC? My guess is they skip the Hagerstown stop since there is only 240 mi from Somerset to Newark (only 226 if they go through Harrisburg instead). Looked like they hit Macedonia near the twitter posting of 5.48pm since it was dark...

Effects of Winter on Energy Consumption

Added a few points with Range Mode (EcoMode HVAC) at Roberts suggestion. Looks like about 100 Wh/mile benefit for the two points I collected (27-28F). In this setting, I did find that after 25 minutes of heating at my work parking lot (no plug), interior temperature increased only from 40F to...

Effects of Winter on Energy Consumption

Agree Robert, range mode seems to be the best option right now for reducing winter Whm. As stated in your other post, the climate control and battery warming should be separate options. I'll try to add another regression factor for range mode. That said, eco hvac doesn't cut it without...

Effects of Winter on Energy Consumption

Hello again fellow New Englanders! With the polar vortex visiting us more frequently now, I was a little surprised by just how much the energy seems to go into heating the car on short trips. I wanted to quantify this a bit with the goal of hopefully identifying some improvements. Green car...

to those WITHOUT air suspension: do you scrape often, wish you had it?

Standard coils here. I went this route for long term maintenance concerns, and I'm very pleased. I much prefer this setup with 19s to the P85+ loaner which had more road noise due to 21s and what felt like a harsher ride.

Model S Boston Winter Driving Wish List

Model S Boston Winter Driving Wish List

Great subject! I would like to see an option to not heat the battery during short trips. I'd rather have an option to accept a reduced power limit. i've recently averaged ~700 wH/mile for a 4.5 mile trip in 14F weather. And, this was just a 60kWh vehicle. That's equivalent to achieving...
