How did you upgrade from the laptop? Were you able to download the firmware and plug in via the USB port?

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I'm getting the certificate error on my T2C but I found via Google a suggestion to use this url instead: http://101.200.208.6 and that works! When I try upgrading my T2C via my phone, I get a message saying "SyntaxError: The string did not match the expected pattern." Does anybody know if...

Article on costs of EV compared to ICE

I’ve moved to FL too and noticed the surprisingly high cost of superchargers. I’ve also learned that there are quite a few hotels that provide free charging. So, my need for supercharging on road trips has dropped a bit

Radar detector mirror mount and windshield replacement

Hi... Over the winter break I was able to successfully mount a radar detector from the trailer wiring harness up under the pillar, the headliner, and mirror. I then used a BlendMount to mount to the mirror Unfortunately, about 2 months ago my windshield cracked and I'm about to get a...

Long road trip for college dropoff

I should have reported this a few months ago but I did a 500 mile each way road trip to drop off my daughter at college (she transferred schools) back in early January... This was the first road trip in the Y and I was lucky enough to sneak in under the wire and be a beneficiary of the 1000...

Article on costs of EV compared to ICE

Coming back to this article.... When I first looked at the "analysis", I was still in the order queue waiting for my LRMY to show up. I got it on November 5th and after a few months of ownership, I can provide my experience as a "mostly home charger". I thought this might be useful for others...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

I already do that. I’d still prefer to see the Waze map rather than the Tesla map. First off, the Waze map is just more clear about what lane to be in for a turn. Second, by a quick glance at the map you can see upcoming issues (police, accidents, etc) long before they get announced.

    $12K for FSD is insane

Suburu makes a decent one. I drove my parents’ car for a few hundred miles with it and it was quite good. The Tesla version is better but Suburu’s was good enough. What I particularly liked was that the autosteer would automatically re-engage after a lane change once you get centered for a few...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

Agreed. I was hoping that the listing of the directions would be as good as Waze given the relationships that you noted. Instead, it is FAR worse. I'd suggest you try something besides the Tesla Nav and you will see how bad it truly is. I constantly have the following issues with the Tesla...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

No argument that it may try to just save a minute. That being said, I've never had an occasion where I'm missing a turn or confused about what direction to go due to the instructions from Waze (or Apple Maps). With Tesla's nav, it's nearly every other trip that I'm frustrated with it. The...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

Just go to the threads about V11 to hear about Tesla’s terrible infotainment UI. There is a reason why many of us run Waze while also running the Tesla nav and I certainly don’t view it as getting the best of both worlds.
  12. 9

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

I’d suggest trying Waze. It’s traffic routing and directions are far superior to what Tesla has.
  13. 9

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

Possibly true. However, the Tesla navigation is awful. On nearly every trip I take that is a bit unfamiliar to me I get reminded about how much worse it is than the alternatives. That then reminds of how bad it is that it doesn’t offer alternatives.
  14. 9

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

Completely agree... Maybe it's "closed" but the nice thing with the Apple CarPlay is that I don't HAVE to use it. I can always just use the system provided by the car manufacturer. I.e., it's OPTIONAL. With the Tesla system, I'm FORCED to use theirs, even if it's obviously worse than the...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

I'll say that the only good thing about Tesla's Nav system is that it will start pre-conditioning the battery for when you near a supercharger. Other than that it is AWFUL. Here are the issues I CONSTANTLY have with it (in order of frustration) Directions for forks/turns are awful and...

    $12K for FSD is insane

I just took my first long road trip and I had a different experience than you did. Traveled from the upper part of NJ to the western part of NC On the way there, the AP worked surprisingly well and managed what I thought would be the difficult parts (the DC beltway) basically flawlessly. With...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

For why the tire pressure is useful to have accessible…. I recently did an 800 mile trip in my parent’s car where we found a screw in the tire at the beginning of the trip. Rather than getting the tire fixed (early on a Sunday didn’t seem likely) we decided to fill up the tire, drive, and then...

12v switched power for Radar Detector

BTW, to get the wire under the mirror panel (the big black thing above the mirror), I'm pretty sure you have to remove the mirror too, or at least, that's what I did. I'm not 100% sure it is necessary though. It's a Torx-20 bolt to remove the mirror and it's in there pretty tight. It was...

12v switched power for Radar Detector

I used the method that has been discussed in this thread. I.e., I got the pigtail connector and plugged that in (see post #43 for an excellent video of how to access that). I then connected the red wire of the Valentine 1 to the red wire of the pigtail connector. I connected the black ground...

Holiday Update (2021.44.25.2)- A Big Disappointment

I like the ability to have customized icons on the bottom. I just wish that there were more icons, such as heated seats, defrosters, etc. In general, there needs to be more context-awareness of the UI. For example, within the first minute of the driver's door being opened, the profile should...

12v switched power for Radar Detector

I followed a bunch of steps in this thread and also used a YouTube video for pulling off the mirror. I was able to run the wire for the Valentine 1 between the clip that hides the mirror mount and the mirror (there is a very tiny gap, but it is big enough). I confirmed that the Panamera...

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

I wouldn’t count on that. At some point the credit has to disappear. We just don’t know that date. Just because it shows in the order now doesn’t mean that it stays there forever.

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

I paid with Plaid ahead of time so my delivery experience involved talking to almost nobody from Tesla. The only time I had to chat with them was some confusion on how to unlock the car. Basically you have to to your account on the website (not the app) and click “Accept Delivery”. After that...

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

There is no “at delivery”. You either pay ahead of time, finance, or show up with a cashier’s check in the proper amount. They don’t accept credit cards, personal checks, or cash at delivery. So, if there is an extra 2k owed at delivery, I’m not going to have a car.

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

I saw something similar, but when I get directed to the Plaid payment screen (or if I choose the finance option), it is clearly taking the rebate into account
  30. 9

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

It's extremely unlikely that it would be retroactive to 5/24/2021. That was the language in the Senate version and that's not what remained. The House version is what remains, and that takes effect in 1/1/2022

Tesla EV Tax Credits coming back?

It should be that simple though. Tesla will likely need to get some type of identification from you and your rebate will be reported to the IRS. So, if you don't report that you received the rebate, you are likely going to be facing some penalties (technically, it would be fraud). If your AGI...

Article on costs of EV compared to ICE

Electricity must be really cheap near you. It's about 0.23 per kWh by me.
  34. 9

Tesla EV Tax Credits coming back?

Agreed... the only thing that I think would potentially change on that is the income level at which the credits get phased out. I can easily see somebody balking at giving a tax credit to people making 800K... And if they are trying to drive down the 3.5T bill to 2T, this is a very easy place...

Article on costs of EV compared to ICE

Right, that's what I was trying to get at... They assume that all EV buyers won't have an outlet accessible to them so they need to install one. A person who is expecting to be mostly using commercial charging will pay an electrician $600 to get a regular 110v outlet installed. They won't get...

Article on costs of EV compared to ICE

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

If we take delivery after Oct 15th is this form essentially meaningless? If so, I’m wondering if it would make sense to delay any Oct 16th (or later) delivery until hearing about the results of the Federal reconciliation process

    Current Delivery Times

My feeling on "fair" and "non-disruptive" would be to make it eligible from the date that the bill passes. This way there is no incentive to delay orders but public money isn't being given to those who already bought their cars.

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

"Vehicles ordered, purchased, or leased after 9 p.m. ET on September 15, 2021 and before the official re-opening of the program will not be eligible for an incentive." I think the bolded part is also relevant. I.e., you need to have ordered before 9PM on Sep 15 but also not purchase in the...

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

That sounds like even more reason to delay the order then. I would be upset to miss both the NJ and the Federal rebate just due to timing of when Tesla could get a car to me.
  42. 9

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

I'm just guessing on how this works... 1. For you to get the rebate at time of sale, Tesla needs to reserve the 2K/5K ahead of time. I.e., they can't just give you a discount and then find out later that the state ran out of funds. That's the importance of the 9/15 reservation date from NJ 2...

Charge-Up NJ rebate program Phase 2

I was thinking about this... I had one guy quote me $100 less for doing the wall charger than for the 14-50 outlet. Adding together the 30% tax credit ($150), the NJ rebate of $250, and the $100 price difference, it basically makes it an even deal to get the wall charger. The only tough part...

Model Y, no blind spot warning?

Yes, I've driven cars with BSM and cross traffic. As I've said, I don't find them particularly useful as they are simply redundant for what my eyes are already telling me. I've also driven race cars while wearing a HANS device, which effectively prevents over-the-shoulder looks into a "blind...

Model Y, no blind spot warning?

In fairness to those who want a quality BSM system, I don't see how you can get a true FSD system without it.
