2023 Model X Plaid vs. Long Range, that is the question...

I hear the 6 seater with no armrests can get uncomfortable on long hauls? Yeah the 6 seater is definitely the kid seat configuration that most people like.

    Considering Model X purchase

The new "refreshed" Palladium started in '22 for the X I believe. For the S there are some '21s that are the newer "refreshed" versions. Every few months Tesla tends to upgrade something so it's a bit of a moving target. For example the lights got upgraded at some point. I have a pivoting...

    Considering Model X purchase

Yes the previous "performance" version was indeed available in all the seat configurations. Why they now limit it to the 6 seater is beyond me. I would not go to the previous version. Remember that above 30mph, the most recent X "long range" or "base" is FASTER than the previous Performance...

    Considering Model X purchase

It used to be called the long range model. With the S and X, even the "long range" or "base" is very fast. It's a different league than 3 and Y base or long range.

    Considering Model X purchase

I'm also hoping they will do an acceleration boost at some point on the standard/long range X and S. Unlock the 0-30, drop another 1/2 sec, perhaps bump from 670hp to 750hp. That would be sweet. They did that for the Y. Who knows they may just do it. It's certainly doable and probably easy...

No problem with my falcon doors. I think they are fairly solid. They've been doing falcon doors since the X came out. Sometimes they don't function as expected like they wont open all the way and you have to hit the button to make them do that. But you get used to it. They provide cover when...

    Considering Model X purchase

I was in the same boat as you. I would have gone Plaid X but the 6 seater is terrible for anyone with dogs. It's also terrible for actually hauling large items. I settled on the 7 seater, Long Range X. It has a ton of versatility. Yes do I look at Plaids when I see them but I know owning the...

    Considering Model X purchase

Have you looked at the new Lucid Gravity? Or the Cybertruck? Maybe just get a big ICE SUV like a Suburban and then complement that with a Model S Plaid since you seem like you want a LOT of speed :)
  9. K

    Considering Model X purchase

That is a tiny SUV and certainly would not work for you. Also real life v. marketing specs are not the same. With ICE cars, getting those numbers is very difficult. You need perfect road conditions with perfect launch. Real life is very different. I have read about how people have taken out C8...

    Considering Model X purchase

Right, remember that Tesla measures all it's "performance" version with rolling start. So your M3P is 3.1sec with rolling start. The X is 3.5sec with rolling start. M3P: 0-60 3.1 (rollout subtracted), 11.6@115mph MX: 0-60 3.5 (rollout subtracted), 11.3@123mph Your can see what is happening...

    Considering Model X purchase

Find me 1/4 mile time better than 11.3sec@123mph on a BMW or Porsche SUV. The X with 670hp is far more power than any BMW or Porsche SUV. It's simple physics. Now if you want to factor in the instant torque available when passing, the BMW and Porsche will be blown out of the water. ICE is...
  12. K

    Considering Model X purchase

I am referring to the latest version which it seems you have test driven already. Have you nailed the throttle at around 30 while in insane mode? It'll pull harder than your M3P and harder than any BMW, Porsche, even Lambo SUV.
  13. K

    Considering Model X purchase

Not sure if you are thinking the X LR is slow or something. It's faster than any Porsche or BMW SUV. I'll bet money on a race!
  14. K

    Considering Model X purchase

It's faster than your M3P. Take a look at 1/4 mile times (11.3@123mph). Heck that's faster than a Urus. Unfortunately Tesla limited the 0-30mph, above 30mph though....it's a beast.
  15. K

2023 Model X Plaid vs. Long Range, that is the question...

You can get the regular X and then just upgrade the steering wheel after you buy it. Tesla sells the yoke. The 6 seater configuration is no good for versatility. No fold flat and that's another negative against the Plaid.
  16. K

    Considering Model X purchase

Not a good idea. In an accident both the driver/passenger and the dog can be critically injured or killed. Strap him in somehow.
  17. K

    Considering Model X purchase

Is the plaid really worth the huge hassle? I personally don't think so. It's not versatile for what you need. Removing the 2nd row is probably not going to be supported by Tesla. Remember those are powered seats with sensors, even the controls are on the screen for seat heating. And even if you...

2023 Model X Plaid vs. Long Range, that is the question...

Yeah at this point the LR advantage is fold flat seats of the 5/7 seater….decent feature if you ask me. The price difference at this point between the two is almost negligible, unless you can qualify for the federal tax credit which makes the LR 5 seater a decent cost savings. Not sure why most...

New to the MSLR - delivery date this week!

They are worse for acceleration and braking simply due to weight. As for handling responsiveness there is a sweet spot. It may be 19 or 20. After that going bigger buys you nothing besides looks with all the downsides mentioned. Btw the tires have just as much or even more affect on handling...

New to the MSLR - delivery date this week!

Big wheels are bad for perfomance, ride quality, damage easier, and give you poor efficiency/range. But hey they look good 😉 This is true for all cars not just EVs.

Model S LR vs Plaid X - Price?!

Thanks for the info. Interesting to see it in a table like this. This doesn't even include the price cuts from the end of 2022. People who bought the Plaid at the peak paid $50k more than what they would pay today! The fact that Tesla can still make money on a Plaid after a $50k price cut shows...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Incentives and sales are just that. Short time things to push sales. It doesn’t cause long term damage to the value of the car. If Tesla was offering a limited time $30k incentive that would have been way better. You know why? Because once the incentive is over then all the prices go back. Used...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

I believed that building an X or an S is expensive and hence why the car is expensive. Now I have realized they really aren’t as expensive to build as what one may think. Example is plaid started at $129k when it came out. Today it is $89k. What I am saying is I made a bad assumption thinking...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Tesla is gouging. How many other manufacturers do you know that can drop the price of a car by $50k in 6 months. Of course prices go up and down but not by huge swings like this. Huge swings like this is straight up gouging. Has anything changed in the past few weeks with supply chain to...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Thanks I know you are trying to get me to see the positive side. I am not going to rejoice if Tesla raises its prices. It would mean they will reduce it again and someone will lose out later again. Price gouging is not good practice. This is why we all hate dealers. I guess in a nutshell I was...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

True. I’m not in a hurry. I will wait till the new Porsche EVs come out. I’m causing a fuss on here for the newbie’s so they don’t get suckered like me.

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

$45k from Tesla cuts, $20k in actual depreciation. Tesla offered me a solid $65k on a one year old car, less than 10k miles. I paid double that exactly a year ago.
  28. K

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Doubt it’s $65k in a year. Actually anyone worried about car value should buy a Porsche ICE, or high end ICE sports car. They will be collectors items soon and will just go up and up.
  29. K

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Always wanted a Porsche and was looking at the new EVs coming. Interested in both the Cayman EV and Macan EV. Now you know why I’m pissed at losing about $60-$65k in one year! That will now have to wait a while. All these people that say well don’t you know your car depreciates. Well duh...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Good points but as the world transitions to electric the current gas stations will all start supporting EV charging. Some already are. Tesla is ahead of the game for sure in this area but it will change for the better if you want to the world to adopt EVs.

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Tesla will likely have to start doing Ads soon now that there are already great competitors showing up to the market and taking some percentage of the market. They've enjoyed a long period with no serious competition and big EV demand.

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Good to know from someone with real world experience with other EVs. Tesla has certainly done a lot right. They started building the network right from the beginning and they have been doing so now for over a decade. We have taken trips in our X and it was easy for sure. About as easy as driving...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

I agree about the charging which was the main advantage of a Tesla. Elon has opened that up to other brands. Seven major brands to use Teslas network. More Automakers to Use Tesla Superchargers. Here's What You Need to Know. - Consumer Reports Electrify America has also come along quite well...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

The right price is applying a profit margin that is competitive and can buffer some of the ups/downs. Tesla had little competition, and they took advantage with some excessive gouging that would even put some car dealers to shame. Ask yourself if products you buy from manufacturers change in...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Oh don't worry we are definitely moving on but just making it clear that buying a Tesla isn't much better than buying from a dealership. Same tactics and the markup part is more hidden. I would love to know what the "true" MSRP is of a Tesla so we can know how much it's marked up at any point in...

You can poo poo what I said all you want but it's actually what most companies already do, including the biggest and most successful ones. There are definitely too many drinking the Kool Aid on this site lol.

TSLA might actually go up as his image/reputation has been damaging Tesla.
  38. K

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Products should be priced right so they don’t need to drop and are already at a good value. They shouldn’t really go up or go down (aside from sales/promotions short term, or a newer version has arrived that has more features and performance). That is is ideal. And surprisingly most companies...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

All depends on how you feel. Most manufacturers have some sort of good practices they follow. Another example: when Apple released their new iPhone during the pandemic the wait was many many months long. Apple did not gouge its customers. As a matter of fact they tried to stop flippers who...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

I ordered appliances for my new house and there was a 1yr wait. It was not marked up 40% however. I still got the same price. The wait just got longer. That's what consumers expect from manufacturers and companies. Only stealerships do you expect ridiculous markups like 40%. Tesla is not much...
  41. K

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

What I am trying to say is they never should have gone up like crazy. Tesla did what your typical "stealership" would do. They saw demand and did huge markups! I just wish they listed the markup on paper so we could all see it. With stealership it's in your face. A lot of people buying Tesla's...

Totally agree with your recent assessment of Musk. I used to like him a lot years ago and respected him. It’s much less today. A friend of mine went for a BMW because he said he can’t support Musk. Musk doesn’t realize how badly his own image and all his company brand images is going downhill...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

I am not supporting dealerships. But it seems that Tesla is playing the same game as dealerships. Huge markups to gouge and take advantage totally based on demand week to week. My point I was making is that MSRP prices from other manufacturers don’t fluctuate that much (talking about the...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

The key is a new model. You never see apple reduce its price without a fair reason like a new model. Sales and promotions don’t destroy the used market. They are for limited time and the price comes back to where it was. I’ve also never really seen much more than 10% off as a sale (ie Black...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Yep. Apple has stayed relevant even though it’s been around for long. Remember Apple almost went bust around late 90s/2000. Jobs came back after being kicked out of the company he founded and resurrected Apple in early 2000s. Tesla is a great company don’t get me wrong. I’ve always wondered why...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Tesla is a lot closer to the Apple sales model than a dealership. And btw it’s about to change. Apple is indeed coming out with their car soon. For that I can’t wait. I’ve always loved Apples quality, attention to detail and just overall experience. Yes they are pricey but they are good. And...

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Nope I am not advocating dealerships. Firstly I will compare Tesla to Apple. Direct sale to consumer, high tech companies that are innovative on all fronts. Apple is worth a lot more than Tesla btw. Have you seen iPhone prices go up and down monthly like a stock share? Does apple gouge...

The S plaid was $129k when it debuted. Now $90k so there’s that. The LR is more spot on to where it debuted.

    Model S&X Price Adjustments

Dealer overpricing is not the same comparison. Assume Tesla was sold through dealers. Now if Tesla priced the Plaid at $90k MSRP and the dealer decided to sell it for $140k, it is VERY clear to the consumer what is going on. It's pure dealer markup and it's in plain sight. When one buys a...
