At this point I’m hoping that their frontend engineers are just toying with people. Put a random number generator in there and add (uniform(0, 0.5)) to 2.7, incremented on each page load 😁

    Good lug nuts?

The old full-size 18V DeWalt DW059 impact wrench with a hog ring was (is) a great value. I looked just a minute ago on Amazon and the newer 20V ones are $300! With the same max torque! Highway robbery. The DW059 was $70, if memory serves, and it still works great. It looks like you can still...

    Model 3 sub-frame supports

The brace just reinforces the compression arms, it doesn’t really cross paths with the FLCA. See photos 7-9 in Hardrace Front Lower Brace for Tesla Model 3

Not yet, it looks solid but I’m waiting on a couple of other minor parts before I get under the car again for real. Will report back

What's all the hubbub about charging in Chicago?

Weird, I’ve never had any issues charging around Chicago. Is this a recent development?

Vendor Model 3 Öhlins DFV Coilovers - Engineered by Redwood Motorsports ™

I looked at the Ohlins R&T instructions and they effectively say the same thing -- "if the lower bracket is set outside the 15mm range it may interfere with the suspension or vehicle body parts" and "overall height must be within a range of +/- 40mm of stock vehicle height". They don't really...

Vendor Model 3 Öhlins DFV Coilovers - Engineered by Redwood Motorsports ™

It's a good point -- the flexibility is there for the type of people that often purchase aftermarket bits, and those are the people most likely to purchase stuff from Redwood. Ohlins likely saw the expanding market for their dampers, particularly among people who wanted a lowered ride with...

Vendor Model 3 Öhlins DFV Coilovers - Engineered by Redwood Motorsports ™

The double adjustability is specifically there if you wish to lower. It’s important to choose springs that are stiff enough, if you’re shortening the free length, else you create a very real possibility of bottoming out. That said, if you know what you are doing, the ability to adjust both...

Unplugged Performance Suspension Systems Comparison for M3

A note regarding the Redwood FPX “damper only” kit: I’d wait for a sale, if possible, and I would absolutely purchase the optional remote adjusters. If you’re looking for comfort, it’s likely that you will want to adjust the damping, and the remote adjusters make it much, much easier. Having had...

Unplugged Performance Suspension Systems Comparison for M3

I personally haven’t had any issues with the Canadian company or with Redwood (has anyone? They seem to have the lowest drama quotient of all, but I guess you get what you pay for). There are UP parts on my car, too, though the instructions for those are a bit more sparse. Haven’t had any real...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I probably shouldn’t say this in public, but there are roads that are damned near abandoned, which when freshly repaved might give a person opinions about high speed handling of the M3LR (boosted, but doesn’t matter at high speed). Montana used to have nickel tickets in recognition of this...

    Model 3 Tire replacement

People seem to love their Hankook Ion Evo AS tires, but if you wanted to go up 10mm and potentially get a bit better traction & rim protection, the Continental DWS06+ is a great tire. Defenders will last forever but you give up a bit of grip to do so. Either way it's going to be less than $1700...

    Model 3 Tire replacement

Get better tires and save your rims in the process. What size rims do you have and what kind of weather do you drive in? Central Florida you probably want summer tires year round; there are fantastic, quiet tires available in 245mm and 255mm section widths that will blow away the OEM tires. Some...

    M3LR MPP BBK install

Very nice! How do you like the wheels? These dust covers hold on better than any others I’ve tried for the lug nuts: https://www.rimbladesusa.com/product/lug-nut-covers/ Now I need a warm day to put mine back on and take a pic. I worry based on the resistance when I recently took a caliper off...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

They’d have to put the 19x9.5s back on. Which, given the recent weather, isn’t such a bad idea; but nevertheless unlikely

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I haven’t, but I’ll see if I have any; the car is currently in Michigan (with 225/45/19 snows mounted on 19x8.5 sport wheels) and I am currently in California.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Assuming you mean 275/30/20 here? I run 275/35ZR19 square on 19x9.5 wheels… the lateral traction is awesome. It severely annoys me to be on sensibly sized winter tires until April. While the wheels are off, I am contemplating shaving 3mm from the back of the wheels (+35 offset currently) to...

New all metal FUCA oem for model 3

Because they made lots of the old parts and would have to write them off if they can’t use them? Any time Tesla does something that seems stupid, the answer is usually “it’s more profitable that way”.

Looking for insight with M3P driving characteristics

This plot is great. The one thing I don’t understand is why the battery cell temps are lower for the LR AWD Boost (25 deg C) than for either the P (40 deg C) or the LR AWD unboosted (33 deg C)? Does that difference have any impact? Every other confounder seems to have been properly controlled...

Vendor Redwood Motorsports Model 3 / Model Y RW-S5 Cyclone Wheels *Official Thread*

Just use these instead: Amazon.com The stock Tesla lug nuts are really good. I faffed around with various alternatives including tuner nuts only to realize how good the OEM nuts really are. Having a non-marring socket is incredibly handy too: https://a.co/d/eabxncP (you only need the 21mm...

New all metal FUCA oem for model 3

Meanwhile the Meyle arm has some nice features (larger ball head, non-Torx bolt) that, while not being worth twice as much, are certainly pleasant. My next FUCAs will be MPP, though. Sealed bearings >> bushings

Appropriate Tire Size for Titan S5 Forged Rims

Skinny 275/35ZR19 and stretched 255/40ZR19 will also fit if the offset is sensible (my Titan7 19x9.5 rims are +35). 265/35(Z)R19 is standard. Conti ECS02 will clear the upright in 275/35r19, as will most 255/40r19s if you want taller sidewalls. I don’t think you can go much taller or fatter...

RMS FPX vs MP KW’s vs UP luxury?

I doubt you would be unhappy enough with RMS to switch. MPP and RW are essentially alone at the top of the hill. If you want to ride near stock height and/or hate twin tube designs, you might prefer Redwood dampers. I’m not sure when it would make sense to ride around on the bump stops with...

RMS FPX vs MP KW’s vs UP luxury?

FPspec ohlins long stroke, sport valving curves, 6K/9K F/R swift springs. Very happy with them. Adjusting preload is fairly trivial: compress the front springs to the max preload you might want, install the dampers, use the wrenches to back off preload until you get the height you want. Similar...

RMS FPX vs MP KW’s vs UP luxury?

Pillowballs will always be noisier than OEM tophats. This is one reason why MPP doesn’t sell pillowball mounts for anything short of their race coilovers. Having installed Redwoods with pillowballs and then with OEM tophats, I cannot imagine why a person would choose floating (pillowball)...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

About 200lbs. I actually had this exact thought while having a windshield replaced, so the sales lady and I calculated the net difference. If you also increase the battery to 100kWh, the 450 pound difference between an M3P and an MSLR is essentially a wash.
  34. T

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Having put wider tires and better dampers on an M3LR with AB, I concur. I hope the wheels on the new M3P will be something other than 20” pothole magnets, though. 275/35R19 on 19x9.5 (or 19x10, for that matter) is extraordinarily sticky. The Model S Plaid Track Pack puts 285/35R20 tires on the...

    Vendor Redwood Motorsports FPX Coilovers for Model 3 & Y - RE-STOCKED!

Noticed a typo — 225/45R19 snows, not 245/45. 245/45R19 cannot fit a model 3. My summer tires (275/35R19) are indeed two inches wider than my winter tires (225/45R19) and that’s how I like it. 😁

    Vendor Redwood Motorsports FPX Coilovers for Model 3 & Y - RE-STOCKED!

At least for me, removing the lock rings above the perch allows a 1.5-2 finger gap in the back (about 365mm or so, hub center to fender). I would not want to go any lower on Michigan roads (I am shocked that I haven’t yet scraped). I am running the performance sport kit with 6/9 springs (long...

    2023 M3P winter wheel/tires again, sorry. 18", 19", or 20" OEM or aftermarket, but with a twist

The 19” wheels will be the least trouble on an M3P. I run 225/45R19 Nokian R5s on my M3 and they’re great. If you want to run 18” OEM wheels on an M3P you will need to grind down the edge of the calipers a bit in the front. That could potentially cause problems with metal fatigue, so I would...

Clunk/ thump from driver front over bumps

See above. I put the car up on jack stands, grabbed my wrenches, sockets, and torque wrenches, wiggled everything I could, and tightened everything to spec per the service manual. In my case, both the driver side damper bushing bolt and the passenger side compression arm ball joint were...

    4-6 weeks for replacement glass??

Prefer Tesla over Safelite for windshields, in my experience Tesla is faster and Safelite has screwed up weather sealing of a replacement Subaru windshield that led to our insurer declaring the car a total loss. Tesla replacement for a windshield that broke after impact from a black walnut...

    Whiteline sway bars

I picked up a rear Whiteline sway bar because it was cheap. It’s definitely stiffer than the stock 19.8mm bar. I think it must be solid since it’s noticeably heavier than the OEM sway bar. I liked the much flatter turns with the sway bar swapped, so I’m going to put it back on now that I have...
