Just purchased Michelin PSS and would like feedback regarding them vs PS2?!

Thank you very much for the update, redi! So if I understand it correctly, you would rate the different tires as PSS Acoustic = PS2 > Primacy in terms of performance/ ride quality and PSS Acoustic = Primacy >> PS2 for reduction in road noise. I am also wondering if anyone knows what the...

Just purchased Michelin PSS and would like feedback regarding them vs PS2?!

redi, please keep us updated on the PSS Acoustics! Similar to you, my hearing is worsening rapidly, but I have always hated the loud road noise of my staggered PS2s, even when they were brand new. It was an eye-opener when I switched to the X-ice last winter, which were whisper-quiet in...

Rear tires for the P85+ with 21x9 rears -- Michelin, Dunlop or Continental?

Still no tires here either. Talked to the tire center at Costco a few days ago and PSS are on nationwide backorder. The 245/35 PSS are supposedly showing up in their system, indicating that production will start within 30 days. However, I was told that the 265/35 PSS for the rear can't even be...

    Expensive tires!

I have a 21" staggered wheel setup with Michelin PS2s and was also charged in the mid $500s to replace a rear tire punctured by a razor blade. I believe this higher price is Tesla's way to recoup the "free" towing. As an aside, I also have Michelin X-ice winter tires on t-sportline 19" rims...

Rear tires for the P85+ with 21x9 rears -- Michelin, Dunlop or Continental?

Just as an FYI for people who are in the same situation as I am in, having to replace the original Michelin PS2 staggered tires: I went to Costco's Tire Center today and was told, even though they're still available, that the PS2 tires will supposedly be discontinued. However, PSS are still...

    Model S Boating Dynamics

Model S driven in a flooded tunnel in Kazakhstan: All other cars, including a truck were stuck in the water, while the Model S still moved. Elon later confirmed on Twitter that the Model S will float for a short period of time and that thrust can be applied via wheel rotation!

    P85D vs P85DL Wh/mi

I also don't see much of a difference in efficiency between Insane and Ludicrous. In my experience, however, the Sport setting is still better if you drive through hilly terrain compared with I or L, even with Range mode on.

Rear tires for the P85+ with 21x9 rears -- Michelin, Dunlop or Continental?

Thanks for the update! I was waiting for the PSS as well, so the October 2017 estimate will give us the opportunity to squeeze at least one more PS2 set in, the way they are being eaten up.:(

Performance of P85D with Ludicrous upgrade review

Thank you everyone for chiming in on my uneducated P85D "performance assessment". Sorka's test results at highway speeds reflect my limited experience that the Ludicrous upgrade performs best at speed. The original P85D was almost anemic in this range and that has dramatically changed now. All...

Performance of P85D with Ludicrous upgrade review

I got my upgraded P85D back earlier this week and I have to admit I am a bit surprised. It may just be my "butt dyno" being different than others, but somehow I expected more from this upgrade, following all the glowing comments here. I have to admit that I have only used Ludicrous without...

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Thanks everyone for keeping the upgrade news (and performance reviews) coming! It makes the wait easier. As an aside though, I question the validity of the upgrade procedure repeatedly quoted here, in that the upgrade kit will be send from Tesla HQ to the service centers, earmarked for specific...

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

I've been pestering my SC, so they finally just scheduled me for 6/1 in Cincinnati. They told me the upgrade would take 2 days and I believe they have done approximately 5 and I am #9 on their list (didn't commit until 1/1). However, I would like to thank everyone who is posting their upgrades...

Performance of P85D with Ludicrous upgrade review

Further clarification: DillyBop obviously took the + sign from a P85+ and attached it to his P85D, as a joke. There is no official P85D+! However, if I had a spare +, I would be able to stick it on my P85D, after the upgrade. ;-)

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Thank you everyone for confirming that the upgrade program is still progressing. Maybe we're just a little bit slow around here. It's also interesting to note that there seems to be wiggle room in the schedule, as reported by Andy. This seemingly contradicts the previous notion of targeted...

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Has there been a stall in the upgrades or are people just not reporting them anymore? I have been #9 on my SC's list and haven't heard anything in almost a month. Is there any indication that they have halted them, maybe due to the bolt issues?

    Tires - Staggered Size

I fully agree! One of the surprises with the car has been how loud the original, staggered 21" PS2 tires are, when the electric drivetrain should make it so much quieter. Especially after I compared it to the much quieter 19" X-Ice winter tires. However, I really like the performance of the...

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

I understand your hesitation, but you'll be fine! I should be so lucky. I contacted my SC in Cincinnati and was told they are (slowly?) working their way through the upgrades, they are on the 4th one or so and I am #9 on the list (didn't commit until 1/1/16). So, patiently waiting......

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

Good luck being the trail blazer in your region. The rational part of me says, maybe it's not such a bad thing to be #9 in my locale (Cincinnati). I was also really surprised about the number of cars being upgraded in my neck of the woods. I didn't expect we had that many eligible P85Ds here...
  29. E

    Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

The good news is that Cincinnati will be doing the upgrade, too. The not so good news is that they don't have any parts yet and I am only #9 on their list! Keep on sending performance data!!

Brief demonstration of Summon (garage auto park) feature, does not use backup camera!

Have fun. Unfortunately, probably very similar to your configuration, the current iteration of Summon is not very useful in our setting. The limitation of needing a straight path, it currently requires an angled approach into the garage. When I enter the garage manually, the car ends up left of...

Brief demonstration of Summon (garage auto park) feature, does not use backup camera!

Yes, that works. But the car gets very close to the garage door, so I can see your concern. What I don't understand is why the same can't be programmed for the driver backing up towards the garage door and it opening automatically. - - - Updated - - - I agree. It gets messed up very quickly...

The problem I have is that getting into the car with the garage door closed and then hitting the open button on the screen will skip the auto-close function. Even when opening the garage door with the wall switch, auto-close only functions 60-70% of the time. Auto-open seems to be more reliable...

Then Summon won't be for you. With the closest setting, it will be 8" from the wall/door. Two questions about the Summon feature

I don't know if there are any absolute answers to your questions. In my experience, 1. the vehicle moves very slowly while entering into or backing out of the garage. Me stepping behind the car was enough to make it slow down and stop, but I don't know if a smaller object, such as a pet or...

Version 7.1 AP Hand on Wheel Sensing

I usually keep my hands off the steering wheel and definitely feel there is more nag now with 7.1. However, at least my casual observation has been that it does not come on every 3-5 minutes. Where I noticed it more is in curves and unfortunately there's a lot of those around here.
  40. E

    Firmware 7.1

I agree, to a point. My experience has been that the car actually nags me more frequently to hold the steering wheel now, mostly in curves. I think the vehicle doesn't "hug" cars in the adjacent lanes as much as it used to; in the past it seemed it was leaving the middle of the lane to move...

Brief demonstration of Summon (garage auto park) feature, does not use backup camera!

My wife refuses to get a Model X, because she doesn't want to get caught in the grocery store parking lot with the "show-offy" falcon wing doors (apart from the "frequent" charging stops on long road trips)!
  42. E

    Firmware 7.1

I've seen a truck; definitely works. No motorcycles, yet.
  43. E

    Auto Homelink issues?

That disables ("skips") the auto close feature. Open your garage door with your wall switch and auto close should work! However, you may have to go through one open-and-close cycle to reset the function.
  44. E

    Auto Homelink issues?

I also open the garage door with Homelink from within the car and in 7.1 it will now cancel the auto close function if you do that. It says (skip) on the Homelink button. Does your's not say that?
  45. E

    Auto Homelink issues?

That's my problem with the feature: When you leave, you cannot open the garage door with the Homelink button without seemingly canceling the auto close function at the same time. A nice addition to the Homelink feature would be if the garage door automatically opens when you put the car in...

Brief demonstration of Summon (garage auto park) feature, does not use backup camera!

I agree that in the current iteration that seems to be the case. However, technically, I don't see a difference between the car opening the garage door from the inside when it approaches the door via Summon vs. me putting the car in reverse and approaching the door. Hopefully, they'll add that...
