Texas Tesla Vehicle Registration (Online) Renewal Issue and Block

Any state certified inspection station can do it, but you only need the "safety" inspection for $7. And yes, it must be done before you can renew your registration. At the last shop I went to they said that they report inspections in real time now so you should be able to get an inspection...

    Supercharger - Arlington, TX

Just looking around on Tesla's Supercharger map and noticed there is a new marker for "Arlington, TX" slated for Q3 2023. There are already chargers in Arlington next to the convention center so maybe we're about to see some mid-city expansion. That would be nice!

Omar Gosh This is So Wrong

That's a beautiful house. Too bad it's gonna be ash shortly after he starts using that charger. I hope he does fix it (see previous comments) because if the "electrician" they called got involved in any way they would know what they were doing was stupid dangerous.

    DFW Airport Charging Rant!

Yes, it is the answer but you're assuming that most humans are rational creatures. When Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area and rumors of gas shortages started to circulate, everyone and their dog went to a gas station whether they needed gas or not. We all remember the outcome. We...

    Supercharger - Henrietta, TX

6 cabinets=12 stalls seems like a lot of charging for that route. Perhaps this will also be a makeshift Tesla Semi charger, not the famed megacharger but enough power to charge the Semi on a southern east-west route. Just pure speculation on my part. :D

    Supercharger - Fort Worth, TX

Just noticed that the Fort Worth Supercharger is marked open but is labeled as 120kw. Someone tell @BlueShift that it's Urban Superchargers, not 120kw regular ones from the pictures I've seen. And I'll be going down there next opportunity in my quest to graph out all the nearby superchargers...

Instrument Cluster display persistence while plugged in

You guys were right. When I went out yesterday I turned on Energy Saver and turned off Cabin Overheat Protection. That not only brought my vampire drain from 12-15 miles a day down to 1-2 miles a day, but I just went out in the dark garage and the charge port is off and the IC display is off...

Instrument Cluster display persistence while plugged in

I turned off "walk away locking" because I look stupid backing away from the car waiting for it to lock..like a bad western gunslinger waitin' to DRAW. I just lock it myself from the fob. :D If it beeped when it locked I would turn it back on in a heartbeat, but with only the folding mirrors...

Instrument Cluster display persistence while plugged in

This is actually great to hear. Even though I've witnessed it once I shouldn't worry too much about it. If the screen does start to burn-in and the image becomes permanent I'll get Tesla involved immediately.

Instrument Cluster display persistence while plugged in

Keys are on the other side of the house, and it's not on while charging, but when charging is complete it comes on. Instrument Cluster display persistence while plugged in

I keep my Model X in the garage and while it's in there it's unlocked. I have noticed that when I charge it, once charging is complete the instrument cluster display comes on and stays on. Paying in advance or bring a check?

    Supercharger - Southlake, Texas

I thought the "evergreen trees" remark was interesting. The P&Z commission was concerned about having 10 "Tesla billboards" at the charging site but those lighted pedestals are there to help owners find the stupid chargers in parking lots with bad lighting. Also the other board member that was...

New Tesla - TX registration process not ready for prime time

I called my DS and he said to flip the temp tags over and there should be another one for another 30 days. Said the SC should have told me that but they didn't. So now I'm good for another 30 days and still waiting on my plates. Doo be doo be doooooo.....

Now you're starting to worry me. :D It's a bit frustrating to be held hostage to this existing license plate procedure when I have a set of plates waiting for me at the courthouse. I guess I should be looking into "what to do if your temp tag expires before your plates arrive"

TT30 Adapter at EVSEadapters & Home Depot

I did not...that's my bad. I had no idea you could buy EV charging accessories at mainstream big-box stores. I've always had to hunt around on the internet to find them. That being said, there are a huge number of people that also won't click the link and could make the mistake of buying a...

TT30 Adapter at EVSEadapters & Home Depot

You have to be careful when you buy a TT-30 to NEMA 14-50 adapter from an R/V place or Home Depot. What you are probably buying is what is commonly known as a "dog bone" for R/Vs. They are wired differently and if you use one of them with a Tesla UMC it won't work. They're wired so that the...

New Tesla - TX registration process not ready for prime time

I talked to my Tesla guy (who is in Colorado) yesterday and asked about the new procedure of registration and plates and why it changed. Electrician in DFW Area for HPWC and/or NEMA install

I also just had a HPWC installed by Fox Electric. Tommy did the load calculation based on my current panel and my highest electric bill from last year. He already had knowledge of the load-balancing function on the HPWC (a good sign) and quoted me a good price. I originally asked for HPWC at...

Can you keep the 12V outlets on when the car is off?

If you need constant 12v power you would probably be better off with something like this. Almost a fire while charging

I know it's expensive, but you might want to replace the entire panel. It looks corroded on both the hot legs and the neutral. Perhaps the Florida weather has taken it's toll. I would look at that panel and assume that all the connections to the breakers are suspect. Plus a possible used...

New blog post. 20+ new SCs in Texas alone?

It's also good to note that the dot on Grapevine may be a bit off. There was talk about a possible SuperCharging location at Southlake Town Center when Tesla was applying for the variances to build a showroom in place of the Buckle store there. @bollar attended a Southlake Council Meeting...

    Supercharger - Arlington, TX

A couple of thing surprise me... 1) They run 4 cables per output phase. Talk me into 100A wiring vs 50A wiring

It's all about time. How much is your time worth to you. I lived in a suburb and worked in a downtown building. At first because my company subsidized it I took the train and light rail so I wouldn't have to deal with traffic. The problem was I still had to drive a very busy highway to get...

NEMA 14-30 UMC Adapter is Back

Apparently not. :D I bought the three adapters that do not come standard with a UMC so I would have them when I finally do order and get a car. Plus they are so cheap I figured I could always sell them to someone locally if I didn't wind up getting a car. I didn't want to take the chance of...

NEMA 14-30 UMC Adapter is Back

    Supercharger - Arlington, TX

Holy crap...power packs make perfect sense. One set of conduits only running to the switch/distribution gear; 5 conduits, 5 chargers, 5 power packs. :O They could also use power packs to give the chargers the extra energy they would need to push above 120kw without making the transformer cry.

    Supercharger - Arlington, TX

I've never seen the inside of a supercharger cabinet so I'm guessing that behind the silver panel on the left side must be the power-in (single conduit pipe) and the HVDC cables connect to the silver panel on the right side, but aren't run yet because of the empty two conduits on the right...
