    Home charging on 110

I don't drive much, and it's never been really cold for long spells where I was, but I've used 120V for 6 or 7 years. It can be done without a problem in some cases.

is it possible to get a service appointment done without them doing a software update on the car?

An update on the Model S years ago broke the heated steering wheel. Nothing about the HVAC or steering wheel or anything related was an obvious part of the patch. That's what set off alarm bells for me. There was clearly not any kind of regression testing. That's minimal development process...

is it possible to get a service appointment done without them doing a software update on the car?

I've asked and put a note in the car, and my request was honored. That was a while back, though, and I'm sure it varies by service center. I recently had the trunk fixed and I never mentioned the pending update. They did not update me.

    Just kill it off already

It's real. If you do image searches, some pictures show this dorsal fin thing on the back. For example: It looks like it might fit in where the central support for the back wing is.
  5. K

    Software Rollback?

No. There simply isn't. Many have wanted such a thing. An update is potentially pretty complex, and rolling it back isn't as easy as you might think. Plus, Tesla has less than zero interest in doing it.
  6. K

Any way to stop the schedule update box from popping up on the screen?

You can actually tap the screen anywhere outside the popup to dismiss it. You don't have to aim for the X.

    Winter 2023 update sucks

You may be on to something. My last update (after skipping updates for months) definitely changed the trip planner estimates. Before the update, the estimates were very pessimistic - so much so I would leave the supercharger when the trip planner said I would arrive at the destination with...

    Winter 2023 update sucks

I'm guessing the weather was colder on your return trip this year.

How to disable cellular antenna in M3

It doesn't hurt to ask. I've requested that the loaded update NOT be installed and put a note on the screen saying not to update. The service person asked why, and I said I didn't want the GUI changes. They serviced the car without updating. However, that was years and years ago.

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

Does anybody else see the irony of increased driver attentiveness and "Alternate Routes While Driving" being introduced in the same update?

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

There is this: Hong Kong removes autopilot. Of course, the US/Canada isn't Hong Kong, but it shows that when a government wants an update, they will force it. Plus, I know I've had an update forced after dismissing updates for years, and other people swear by the same. Sure, it's not hard...

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

They can and probably will force the update. I believe they did that in Hong Kong a few years back, but I don't recall the details. I've had updates applied that I am 100% sure I didn't approve.

Is 23-65 kWh at a supercharger normal for a 2015 model S 70D with recently replaced battery pack?

It's probably not the best option, but the 100 kWh batteries do reportedly retain their original charging speeds. Of course, Tesla could nerf that in the future.
  15. K

Are you still on the original battery pack with your 2012-2015 Model S?

No, I don't have any extra data unfortunately. Yes, the car started with more range than spec. I've checked that I am looking at rated range, not ideal. Unlike most others, my predicted (EPA) range and my actual range are spot-on exact in good weather. I've verified that the battery sticker...

Are you still on the original battery pack with your 2012-2015 Model S?

Original pack, 2015 Model S 70, about 40k miles, 100% charge is 243 miles. It was maybe 246 miles when new in warm weather, so basically no degradation is being reported.
  17. K

Is 23-65 kWh at a supercharger normal for a 2015 model S 70D with recently replaced battery pack?

Pretty normal. I have a 2015 S70. My SOC% + charging kW is roughly 100 now (+/- 5). I've driven 1/2 way across the country and although it took longer, it wasn't too terrible. (I had dogs with me, so the stops were going to be a little longer anyway - lots of sniffing!) If you're not planning on...

Just saw one in Los Gatos, CA tonight. Cool, but still terrible build quality

I honestly thought it looked more like derisive laughter. It's hard to tell from stills, I guess.

It will be fixed in a firmware update. :D

Where is the Start / Stop button in my brand new Tesla???

I was at a destination charger and a new owner was just standing next to his car with the door open, looking confused. He asked me how to turn the car off. It was dark, so I'm guessing he got the fob right as the showroom was closing and he got basically zero instructions. I've left rental ICE...

Teslas being used as the battery storage ???

There's also the issue of free unlimited supercharging still out there. I doubt Tesla wants people "filling up" at the charger and then running their house/cabin/campsite off of the car. You know somebody would abuse the hell out of it and ruin it for everyone.
  22. K

Finally! Free Unlimited Super Charging FUSC can be transferred

Now I kinda want to keep my SC01 forever just out of spite:), but not in a hateful way. I got FUSC for being an early adopter, and I like being in that club. (Plus, the stalkless designs preclude me from owning a new Tesla, so there's no incentive to update.)
  23. K

    Tesla officially offers custom wraps

You joke, but I stopped washing mine because I was never sure which car wash was "OK" and I'm too lazy to hand wash it. And I don't care all that much. It's been 4, maybe 5 years now since it's been really washed. It looks like a garage find or something pulled from a river.

    Autopilot disappointment

AP1, in the old days, let you nudge the car without breaking AP. By steadily applying force on the wheel, you could slightly steer the car a little within the lane. When passing a truck that was a bit close, you could nudge almost all the way across the lane line on the side opposite the truck...

    Free supercharging value?

As an admitted skinflint, I get great satisfaction from FUSC. It's a pleasure that goes beyond the practical, like how some people pay a lot of money for expensive wheels that look good (to them) but actually limit range. FUSC just gives me joy. I don't need to calculate dollar amounts. I love...

    Non-Tesla charging sucks

Here in the US (sorry, it's the only frame of reference I have), the non-Tesla charging in the past was actually somewhat better. EV charging was a new thing, which meant new, working equipment. The push was in getting the equipment installed and cost/payment was less of a concern. I said at the...

Road trip CA to Oregon and back

Amen! It didn't used to do this. It used to be that if you panned the map past a certain point, it would "break" the auto-zoom/pan mode until you pressed the viewing mode again. This was perfect.
  28. K

    Far West Texas Charging

Yeah, I rolled into the Hotel Limpia with 16 miles. I had hoped to get a 14-50 charge at the campground where we stayed, but they were having an Airstream rally and were full up. If I hadn't used the mobile charger and a 120V plug the night before, it would have been a very different outcome. I...

    Far West Texas Charging

That's a little sad, in a way. That area was like the last frontier, the literal wild west. It's the only place I ever got a "Find charging immediately. You can not reach your destination and we are unable to find a charging location." (paraphrased) message.

You all have about talked me out of a Tesla altogether...

I'll offer an unusual perspective. I was recently in the service center getting my car worked on (replacing MCU1 with MCU2 at a good price, so Yay Tesla! on that). Having nothing to do, I just sat in the service center lobby all day. I spoke with a lot of people, some charging and some getting...

    V11 supercharging screen

Thank you. I guess I never thought to look there. Both times I've been supercharging since the update I have been pretty preoccupied with other things.

    V11 supercharging screen

I am just now trying V11 on my 2015 Model S. When supercharging, I do not see either the rate of charge in kWh, nor the estimated time to completion. I see these at home on AC, but not when supercharging. Those are essential numbers. I can't believe you no longer even get an estimated time to...

Supercharger - Salem, OR - SE. Mission St. (LIVE Jun 2023, 12 V3 stalls)

I just booked a service appointment here - replace the 12V and upgrade to MCU2. Hopefully the center really is open.

    Hold map in one spot

I have a 2015 Model S and it's the same - constant zoom-back. I 100% never want that to happen. If I wanted it to auto-pan/zoom again, I would press the view mode selector again. It used to work this way. Now I have to just keep nudging the map every few seconds. I, also, would really like to...

Life span per owner/ car? Are you happy with your Teslas over 5 years old?

Yeah, the MCU hardware is failing, and this is the "almost 100% dead" phase. I'm holding off having it fixed to avoid the 5 hour round trip to the nearest service center. Our moving to a new location and the Salem, OR service center opening are both imminent.

Life span per owner/ car? Are you happy with your Teslas over 5 years old?

My last trip, my wife and I bet on whether the system would come up before we got home. It appeared she was the winner, since the nav displayed, but when we realized it froze soon after we called it a tie. We did find out that in this particular drive that when the HVAC was put into "dog mode"...

Nailed it! I hope @Bladerskb sees this.

    Funny FSD story

That is simply not true. It varies by jurisdiction, for example. I've seen all kinds of things people try to justify under "privilege, not right", but that doesn't mean you lose your rights when you get into the driver's seat.

BMS-029 - Tesla Must Do Better

But is it really dumb? When it's all resolved, I have to have a car to drive. My transportation either cost me $19k (new battery) and end up with a Model S... or roughly $19k (new car) to end up with a Nissan Versa (or equivalent). In the end, I end up with a car and X dollars left in the bank...

    Funny FSD story

I was pulled over for no front license plate. The very young officer gave a verbal warning. After that, he said something like "Now that that's done, can I ask you... how many miles do you really get?" We talked for probably 10 minutes about Teslas and EVs. I offered a test drive and even a...

    Funny FSD story

I was told by a cop that if they want to pull you over, they will. Follow long enough, and you'll do something they can pull you over for. If not, there's always "left of center", which is pretty much impossible to dispute (actually admitted to me by said officer). "Dim license plate light" is...

    First Long Distance Drive

You'll eventually get to know your car and how you drive it, and what you can expect. At first, trust the car and do what it says. My last trip, I asked my wife if we should leave the supercharger even though the trip estimate showed arriving at <0%. She said probably not. I convinced her to...

    Does Anybody Else 'Wave' ?

In 2015, I would see maybe one other Tesla every month or two. We waved. My wife and I would play "Punch Tesla". In 2023, I counted 11 Teslas driving by at the airport while my wife was getting something out of her bag. Nobody waves. "Punch Tesla" would cause severe bruising.

Vendor Upgrade your Model S/X at 057 Tech - More range, more power!

I'm not sure how much that relates to me, personally, in my 2015 S70, but I appreciate it very much. However, it does tell me that Tesla is trying to restore speeds even now, and not just nerfing us to limit warranty claims. (That seemed like a conspiracy theory even to me, and I'm pretty darned...
