Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I think the post above might have accidentally mis-typed that number. From this page, I believe it ends is 7652: Powerwall Customer Support

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

No, sorry, 1% is definitely not enough "room to charge". As I mentioned above, I didn't see the drop in frequency until I had 10-15% capacity, and even then the frequency was still ~62Hz (not standard 60Hz).

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I believe @MorrisonHiker likely hit on the core issue. When backup-only, I don't see a full 100% which to me makes sense because you don't want to keep the batteries at 100% charge for an extended period of time. By contrast, when I run with time-based control, I always see 100% charge which I...

Powerwall 2 + UPS Connundrum - and solution

I've seen similar behavior to what you describe and I believe it is primarily or entirely due to the charge state of the Powerwalls. I have a plug-in Kill-a-watt meter which showed 65Hz at night, when no sun was out, when my Powerwalls were 99% charged. After my Powerwalls had discharged by...

Why is the gateway taking energy from the grid during peak?

I do have storm watch on, but have not touched it and I'm in Southern California where it seems highly, highly unlikely that storm watch would have even accidentally been triggered yesterday. My Powerwalls are outside, though temps were only mid-70's (F) but I'll call & find out what may have...

Why is the gateway taking energy from the grid during peak?

Below is the image for the day. For those unfamiliar, the green is the PowerWall which you can see charging from about 7:30am until about noon when it reached 100%. You'll note the Powerwall properly kicks in at 4pm to match the house usage as the solar decreases, but then it drops to zero as I...

Why is the gateway taking energy from the grid during peak?

See the two images below for reference . . . I have time-of-use setup with peak hours 4-9pm with the preference set for cost savings. The first screenshot below shows 6:24pm (in the middle of the peak range) and the house only wanting to use 4.4kW of electricity. I have multiple Powerwalls...

A better way to mount toll transponders

I want to share a picture of how we mounted a toll road transponder in our Model 3. This is particularly useful if you have any film on your front windshield or you simply don't like look of a (typically) white transponder stuck to your front windshield. My wife took some dark paper then cut &...

EV Car/My Tesla - An Alexa skill for Amazon Echo / Tesla integration

@DWhatley You can also leave your car unlocked by creating a new profile (as I did) which does NOT use the setting to lock upon walking away. I still have to remember to select that profile when I exit the car, but as long as I do that, the car remains unlocked.

Any reason to get EAP if you don't cruise

@Sonic_78 My wife generally feels, or at least felt, the same as yours. I suggest you make the point that driving today and in the future will have far more distractions than ever in the past. As humans, we all have far too many distractions from technology or bad days or we can "zone out"...

what causes this orange tint from our windows?

See the image below which shows an orange-ish tint across the top of the windshield, mostly in the area where we have the normal darker tint. It is generally only visible when there is rain/dew/water on the glass. This orange-ish color also appears on the top glass panels of the falcon wing...

    Supercharger orange ring ???

I recently experienced the “orange ring” problem but luckily found a simpler cause & solution. Apparently someone had let the supercharger connector fall to the ground where it managed to pick up a small pebble (or piece of loose asphalt). This was preventing it from being pushed in all the way...

Blackvue 2-Ch Dashcam Install on Model X

I respectfully but completely disagree. This is not some mass produced piece which will sell miillions of units by/from an established company who already has its own manufacturing, sales, marketing, & distribution/shipping channels. @David77 is effectively a friend, doing us all a favor. How...

    Quick 220 system?

Search Amazon for "gfci tester" and you'll see a number of devices in the $5-$10 range that will let you test. Perhaps you've already considered this, but do you have an electric drier anywhere closer to your garage? You could use that outlet and charge much faster than the products described...

    245 or 255 front tires?

FYI, I received mine with 265's in front & 275's in the rear. I don't know how Tesla decides, though I assume contributing factors are the wheel size (mine are 20's), tire choice (mine are the Continentals), motor size/power (e.g. 60/75 vs. 90 vs P90). At this point I'm assuming everything is...

Vendor Unplugged Performance UP-03 Super Lightweight Wheels for Model X

@UnpluggedP Do you have any data, even if it's not exactly scientific, on how this improves the range? For example, anecdotally the factory 20" wheels improve range from 5% to as much as 10% (anecdotally). I have the factory 20" wheels and am curious if there is a similar benefit to these 20"...

    Floor mats for 5-passenger X

Ummm, this is an incorrect statement. Perhaps you meant to say that Tesla has not offered the Weathertech-specific mats yet, but numerous others are available. I've had the Lloyd's Rubbertite mats for a long time now, offered in many colors (which will never happen with the Tesla ones). The...

Harmful UV Rays and Model X ?

All of the quality films will cut the overwhelming majority (99+%) of UV rays. If you care primarily about the UV protection and want "almost no" tint, something like Llumar's AIR 90 still or 3M Crystalline 90 cuts the UV just as well as any of the darker tinted films. Just search these forums...

Factory tint level on front windows?

Prior to having my windows tinted, we used a meter on the driver side window and saw 90%, implying a 10% light reduction. I can't say/don't know if that means it was specifically a tint or just a slight reduction due to the glass, but the fancy meter showed the equivalent of a 10% reduction. We...

Why does vehicle turn off with passenger & key fob in car?

I haven't paid attention, but we're good about wearing our seat belts all the time so I would think so. Is your suspicion about the front seat belt based on your experience or having read something else about it? If there's another thread with info I'd love to read that.

Why does vehicle turn off with passenger & key fob in car?

There are a number of situations in which I'm puzzled and/or frustrated by when the vehicle turn off despite having a key fob and person in the vehicle. Allow me to give a few use cases: My wife & I are both in our MX, both with our keys, and I'm driving. I get out of car for a few minutes...

Pros and Cons of 5 Seater MX vs new 7 Seater?

When thinking about the cargo space, keep in mind that more height is available in the 5-seater when you remove the load floor. With the floor in place, you are limited to about 25 inches of height at the lowest point. Removing the load floor gives you much more height. I believe it's about 8...

New navigation UI will negatively impact MX and MS owner

I wish Tesla would *ALWAYS* show the next event/action/turn on the dashboard display, rather than only displaying such information when you are close to a turn. It seems reasonable to always know, "What's next?" in any navigation display. For example, when driving down the freeway, I would like...

    Weathertech mats for 5 seater?

If you consider the Lloyd's Rubbertite mats (which I also have on every possible surface), be aware that they do come in quite a few colors. Some vendors appear to only offer one or two, and I wanted plain black anyway, but there are more colors than some vendors offer on their website...

    Traveling with Dogs

I use two printed signs (normal white paper, mounted on cardboard) that I put on either side of my dog crate. AC stays on when turned on with the Tesla App

This sounds like your keyfob was within range of the vehicle. I'm guessing but it would explain the behavior (A/C would stay on if you were in the car with the keyfob), and I've experienced exactly that even when I thought my keyfob was far enough away. Perhaps there are times when the keyfob...

Need help planning for a trip

I suggest you start out driving slowly (even below any 70mph speed limit) and draft (safely) behind a truck as soon as possible and for the first 1/2 (or more) of the distance. In the later part of the trip, if you're feeling comfortable, only then drive faster and stop drafting. This is better...

Clear Tint Film on Model X Windshield?

I installed a film on my windshield. I originally selected Llumar Air 80 but ended up going with the Prestige film. The installer did NOT remove the rear view mirror & front-facing cameras. HVAC for 5-Seater Model X

I haven't yet driven in TX or FL heat, but my current summary is that you can manually make it work. Why not ALWAYS display next nav instruction on dash?

Currently the dashboard navigation screen only shows the next turn when you get close to the turn. Until that point, the dash display shows a map, but no turn instructions. Model X 5 Seat Deliveries

I just got mine on Thursday (just haven't had a chance to post anything about them yet). Mine do have the leather straps to lift the floor panels. I don't like it on the larger panel since it really does stick up and doesn't allow things to be totally flat, particularly under the Lloyd's...

    Understanding Wh/Mi - Range

@ALLMYNE As you read more of these forums and gain more first-hand experience, you'll find that your wh/mile will change based on a LOT of different factors, including/especially the temperature and speed you drive (cold & fast/freeway driving => much higher energy usage). I mention this only so...

Love the car, HATE HATE HATE the Pano Roof.

@Okgo Please tell us what film you used. Given that you mentioned the 20% reduction, I'm guessing it's likely Llumar's AIR 80. Is it? I'm also about to add that to my windshield. As mentioned above, the temperature of the glass surface is likely to heat up because all these ceramic tints...

Solid Black vs. Obsidian Black Metallic

The previous several posters are absolutely right. As my post & picture above points out, the obsidian "black" is more likely to take on a blue or purple or other tint. That's not for everyone, and even I occasionally tilt my head and think to myself, "Purple???". The standard black is...

    5 or 6 seats?

The comfort of the 2nd row seats is subjective, but the utility of the different configurations is pretty clear. Solid Black vs. Obsidian Black Metallic

I went with obsidian black because I subjectively felt it had a bit more depth to it, and I thought it reflected other colors better. For example, in this picture, it looks almost purple in places because it's picking up some of the blue of the sky, and the reflection of the trees on the hood...
